  1. Did it go to general sale? If not, how did 5 northerners get tickets together in the home stands?
  2. After going season after season for something like 50 years I'm all a bit 'meh' with the football experience these days. I'll now pick and choose my games and very likely enjoy the day out more when I go, more so for being out of the PL. One thing they should do is find a way to stick the TV cameras in the Itchen. Last time we were down and crowds dropped it was the Itchen that was mostly empty plus the big gap between home and aways in the Northam, the place looked particularly bad on the tele and save us having to watch away fans lording it when they score in front of them.
  3. Agree, and some of the teachers! They come from all over and give the kids grief for supporting their local club as much as the glory-hunting plastics.
  4. Man City fans do love to bang on about their crowd being 'proper mancs' unlike United but that's already now just a distant memory. Only a few years back you'd have been hard pushed to see anyone wearing a city top down south, now you see kids...and grown men...in shirts all over. They'll no doubt be City fans in the home stands tonight but they won't be from Manchester, they'll be their 'new fans' from around the south. My niece's nipper is a classic example. Him and his mates at school were big Saints fans not long ago, he's now 'City', his mates are a mixture of big club fans, "Saints are shit". 5 years of being mostly shit does that to kids when they're taking stick at school by others that have already fallen by the wayside. Another lost generation of young fans.
  5. If I remember correctly, Norwich sold STs for something like £150 when they went down with us in 2005 and packed out their ground and had a real supporter feel-good factor. Our lot continued the PL pricing but just said we were getting more games for the same cost. We no doubt would have had one of the highest priced tickets in the Championship that year. Thanks Rupert.
  6. Strange set-up. WHL was basically split in half, we had the Paxton end of the ground, they had Park Lane but for some reason they had a section above Saints fans on the Shelf and had free reign to continually lob stuff over onto those below. That was a miserable walk back to Seven Sisters and took forever to get back on the tube as we were told there was fighting going on further down the line which stopped the trains.
  7. Bad couple of years for us where the scousers are concerned - missing out on the title by 3 points to the red scallies and two consecutive semi defeats to both. The WHL semi was yet another disappointing day out.
  8. I don't know about that having been inside the shithole on portsea island that year, that was the most frail bunch of pussies I've ever had to watch. And we didn't get in until nearly half time!
  9. A little teaser of next season's shirt has just been leaked online...
  10. Many away days in the Championship will be more expensive than the PL price cap.
  11. I can’t unsee how we did in the ‘must-win’ at Leeds (amongst too many others) so not expecting much but funnier things have happened…
  12. Makes sense, small third division Italian club buddies up with small English third division club.
  13. Certainly doesn’t have to be a choice between club and country. I’m a football fan from Southampton so I support the club that represents my city, equally I’m English so support my national side. Neither tend to be playing at the same time so can’t see a problem.
  14. I would have thought “shirters” and “Green Street” wannabes were two separate entities? And little different from years past. Back in the 70s there was the “We’re the Barmy Archers Army” types led by Mr Redpath, who’d march down to the station singing their songs before going home, and then there was an entirely different mob further back up the road.
  15. Ain’t that the truth.
  16. I'm pleased he's 'signing-off' in a good way. He's playing his last few games for SFC and great to see a return to form that many suspected had passed him by at 34. Good to see.
  17. Merry Crisis and a Happy New Fear
  18. That's the spirit, get out of the PL circus and winning more games in a proper league. All together now... "EI-EI-EIO up the football league we go, when we get promot..." ..................ah I see the problem here
  19. Doubt if they’re that stupid, they’ve seen how we struggle with the way lesser sides set up against us at St Mary’s. They’ll sit back, let us harmlessly knock the ball sideways and just destroy us on the break. Kane and Son will have a field day.
  20. This feels more like an end-of-season 'great escape' game than one still in March - if we can find the same kind of belief on the terraces as well as on the pitch it should make for a passionate encounter. We had a few in the Dell days, Southampton/Pahars/Everton springs to mind (quarter a century ago!), something like that should do it. Around 150 tickets left for this tonight, just about all the expensive halfway line ones (650 left for the spurs match - so both should sell-out).
  21. So, he's no longer TCWTB, now more TB(end)WAC
  22. The 'D' is solely to ensure players are 10 yards from the ball (as with any free kick) when a penalty is struck, stepping over that line is encroachment. It's nothing to do with the penalty area other than when a pen is being taken.
  23. We'd have beaten 'em 17-0..............................
  24. I'd been going a couple of years when I got my first taste of being done by lower league, 72/73ish, losing at home to Wrexham, tough to take at the time. Thank fuck we didn't draw them in the cup this year!
  25. I bet Nathan Jones is dancing on our grave
