Tbf, they weren't the only ones ...

Eventful day, galling result - I never did find out if my mate got all that claret (his own ) out of his nice white Sergio Tacchini!
-
FFS, so it was. Teach me for jumping in after reading it on the UI (you'd think NI would know better ) Too late late to change to thread title to '41 years, etc" What a day tho, even if it was 1980!

10th February 1981 - one of the most jaw-dropping events in the history of Southampton FC KEVIN KEEGAN SIGNS FOR SAINTS I bet most fans can say exactly where they were the moment it came out on the news.

It's been suggested in the past that Americans don't really get the British sense of humour https://time.com/3720218/difference-between-american-british-humour/

"Southampton chief executive Martin Semmens took part in panel discussion about investing in clubs during last week’s virtual Soccerex gathering" Soccerex is about "bringing together the global football industry" - the statement provided earlier from The Athletic suggests the club are at least thinking along these lines.

I bet that question's come up a few times Some of those signatures have been bugging me, particularly the one that was clearly saying Paul (couldn't make out the surname). I've just looked at the official team photo for 78/79 and it includes someone called (surname only) Arnold, I reckon that's him. Other names from that season's photo (not mentioned above) include: Ted MacDougal, Mike Pickering, Pratt, Sharpe, Neville, Dawtry. The 79/80 team pic includes someone called O'Donoghue, strange one, can never remember him making an appearance, but certainly one of the signatures on the ball.

...also looks like Tim Coak, maybe Davey Peach - would imagine Tony Funnell could be on there somewhere but doesn't look obvious. Incidentally, an anagram of Forbes Phillipson Masters is 'lesbians shoplifters romp'. Just thought I'd mention it.

I first really got into football in 1970, but 71/72 is the season I started going regularly, I was an 'Alehouse Brawlers' fan. The 8-0 and 7-0 humiliations may have been enough to put some off for good but from soon after that point I never missed another home game in the league for over a decade and was also travelling around the country by the mid-70s. There was that other 7-0 at Ipswich a few years later but the first real humiliation I was there to witness was the 7-1 at lower league Watford. The 7-2 at WHL and 2-6 at the Dell v spurs were two particularly tough ones to witness. Rarely a dull moment.

That was a night they did pay-on-the-gate and someone lost count. The official attendance was slightly under capacity but fans were having to stand in the aisles as there were no free seats, it was well over. Similar thing happened at St Mary's when we played Bayern Munich in a friendly, all seats were taken but loads of fans were still pouring in and made to to sit in the walkways. Possibly an unofficial record attendance that night.

Yep, great news, but.....this ain’t repairing our now horrific goals difference, that may have been marginally better if the pen wasn’t awarded and we’d kept our best defender on the pitch. The club should use our wonderful marketing dept to compile a film of all the blatant wrong decisions in the last 2 games (goals, penalties, throw-ins, corners - that ‘foul’ on the Villa keeper!) and it stick up on YouTube. Still, Mike Dean gets his name mentioned now every time they take the piss out of Southampton’s other 9-0 drubbing.

Maybe but I suspect a good few of them could be traced back to the 'PO' postcode

That cup run in '84 was one of the best times I had on the road. Forest, skates, Blackburn (good turnout for a Friday night, live on BBC), Sheff Wed (10k travelling for the Sunday game live on BBC) and Highbury for the semi, went to all, great days out. That entire season was memorable - other than the semi-final and missing the title by 3 points!

Just seen elsewhere, it's 37 years ago today, so...Happy Anniversary!

Yep, more sad news - when did we all get so old? RIP

or the Milton in all its glory

Funnily enough I’ve just had a bit of a flashback myself - mid-70s, Chelsea had all the Archers (about 5,000 and mostly all thugs back then), David Essex blaring out over the tannoy with ‘Hold Me Close’ and what seemed like most of them joining in with “...every cloud’s got a silver-lining...” - can’t remember the score tho!
-
Not in the 70s tho! As mentioned, just a random current playlist, brass band for OWTS occasionally accompanied with a walk-around by the England self-appointed cheerleader Ken Bailey (who took the odd jibe from sections of the crowd...was he a wrong’un? )

Tbh I don’t take much notice of what goes on in the third division but that must be a mistake surely, I mean, they don’t get beat 4-nothing in their own back yard.....oh, hang on...........

The good posters no longer post here and you can see why...
alehouseboys replied to Dusic's topic in The Saints
Another couple that spring to mind but no longer with us; Griff and Toomer. Didn't Griff's wife use to post too? Haven't seen anything from (think the name was) Eastleigh Soul Boy who was a regular poster for some time. -
They could do far worse than just bunging a badge on one of their current bulk standard red and white striped shirts. Chuck in a nice pair of dark blue shorts and white socks and they could be onto a winner imo.

...and changed sex. FA Cup 2003 we played cockerels, lions, canaries, wolves, hornets...and Arsenal. So far in 2021 we've drawn shrews, (wolves or magpies)...and Arsenal. Just saying, I was bored.

Trousers' instructions were far more more comprehensive (if not disturbing) than my limited knowledge on the matter but... can you right-click on it and 'save as' to save it somewhere else and then 'right-click-= copy/paste' ? Or maybe take a screen-shot and paste/save somewhere you could then 'right-click etc.' ? But I'm sure someone else could guide you in a better direction than this old technophobe! EDIT: This actually maybe a load of ol' bllxs, I think when I've copy-and-pasted it may well just have been a link to the website where that particular image was hosted (rather than an image from your own files) - I don't get the options as advised by 'Master Bates' but that looks more like it (I guess if you're a subscribed poster)
