Football's a passionate spectator sport, it wouldn't be the same if fans didn't get animated. I wonder if you, saintjay77, are the type that goes and adds to the atmosphere or are one that sits on his hands with his mouth shut for 90 mins? If you were giving it (like 90% of the ground that day) to the skates, how is that acceptable inside the stadium but not moments later outside? It's hard to switch off immediately the game ends (those were the days) particularly when you've just been dicked by the local rivals and they're giving you pelters. I'm not excusing hooliganism, just think it's asking a bit much to expect an instant change in personality after 90 mins of passion (those were the days) particularly after a local derby.

That maybe correct and preferable in an ideal world but what some on here are saying is this possibly wasn't the reason they were let out the same time. I'd like to know if the same Hampshire Constabulary will/did let out Cardiff, Millwall and Leeds fans from fartton at the same time as home fans this season? And if it really is a "miniscule minority that want to fight" surely it would be better to keep away fans in, clear the area, and then the Police can easily identify possible trouble makers hanging around and remove them. There's more likely a chance of innocents getting caught up in a fight if it kicks off with everyone coming out at the same time.

Well if either of them, or whoever, have continued to keep an eye on him they'll be glad they kept their money in their pockets right now.

http://www.carlisleunited.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10361~51817,00.html 901. Very good and just 20 down on last year when it was earlier and a first visit for many.

Just under a 1000 last season, probably 800ish this...and as you say, good luck to all. I'm sat here with a nice hot cup of tea while you lot have already been on the road to Scotland for the past 2 or 3 hours. Lucky b'stards!

That's a bit rich coming from a town that gave us the Delap boys.
-
Well, as 'Give it to Ron' has just bought FA Cup tickets I guess that may not be correct.

3 things you should know about David Connolly: 1: He's a great striker (when fit) 2: He's injury prone 3: He's f'kin obedient

OK, another one, how many put the 'area code' for Southampton as (02380) when it is really just '023'. The '80' bit became part of our personal numbers when they were running out of variations. Anyway it's 'aitch' aint it...innit...is it not?

Good on yer lads. Result better than the game itself but hey... -
Agree, Chaplow played well and is giving us a bit more in the middle but don't think you can deny Oxo MOM last night. Also, as you say, good crowd, more than the Yorkshire local derby at Hillsboro', bet 'udders had more than a couple of hundred there too. "Na, na, na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, OXO" ...can't understand why this one aint caught on yet?

So, when Saints fans sing... " He plays on the left, he plays on the right, Adam Lallana, makes Messi look sh1te!" ...they're really telling fibs......!!!

Saints 3 Notts County 1 - Post Match Reaction
alehouseboys replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
...and I see the total attendance is given as around 9,500 which means the ground was only half full. Get away, there's a pub nearby called the 'VAT and Fiddle', how appropriate. We had over half of the stand down one side, County fans in the other bit and every other stand looked 80%-90% full. Good noise from the home fans, mainly their 'Kop'...needed the drums to get them going tho'. -
On the OS they mention the 'Globe' and the 'Southbank' as pub recommendations... http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2200091,00.html ...also 'Hooters' and, although usually they only allow entry to visiting cheating skates, the 'VAT and Fiddle'. Hopefully not too far apart so we can sample them all.

You'll have to excuse me but I've been out, can someone please explain why TCWTB looks a little more angry and ugly than usual? Hull v Blue Few tomorrow....ish

Can't remember it being particular huge but was a popular fixture...tho' not for the 'Warrens' that day as Millwall played Salisbury at the Dell in the FA Cup! I think the Ipswich v Saints game was on MOTD as I can recall McMenemy praising the travelling support in the aftermatch interview...meanwhile back in Southampton the infamous 'Battle of the Warrens' was taking place. A good night at Portman Road, last game of the season in Keegan's days, win needed to get into Europe. Won 3-2.

You really should have been around in the 70s, 80s, 90s and if we'd had t'internet and message boards back then you can only imagine the frenzy those portsea island inhabitants would have worked themselves into over their more illustrious neighbours. And Ho-Ho-Ho, you probably wouldn't know this, but the blue few actually named one of their fanzines after a date they once beat Southampton...cute or what! ...and is this the long awaited new stadium corpy was telling us about...so many times? Maybe she wasn't just making it all up after all!
-
...Chelsea too. And that Spurs game was certainly more, there were loads outside well after kick-off and a decision was made to just open the main gates and let everyone pile in, I believe it was 10k that actually clicked through the turnstiles. There was another big attendance for the ressies against Spurs many years back at the Dell when Keegan turned out.

In recognition of our very own Chas Miller teaching those south Americans how to play the game in the first place...to 'Camptown Races'... We gave football to Brazil, Doo-da, doo-da, We gave football to Brazil They gave us Do Prado. Don't thank me...I know it's sh*t

I don't think it was ever just Cortese that had his eye on the gravel works, it's been talked about ever since we first moved in. As I understand it's always been the intention to develop the riverside all the way from Ocean Village round to the old Meridian studios which will be an ongoing development as leases run out on the wharfs. I guess they envisage some kind of underpass for traffic leaving a pedestrianised area down to the river, it's also already been suggested that water taxis could be used to ferry fans from appropriate areas to help ease road congestion. And I don't think it's a case of the Itchen stand can't be increased, more just that it would be more work/expense so the other 3 stands were the obvious targets for expansion.
