Sorry chaps don’t want to be argumentative but you’re missing my point. Lavia replaced Romeu, and I think we all agree is an upgrade. So compared to last year there were no grounds for keeping Oriol, who didn’t play every game anyway. in fact getting AMN in on loan has given us one more option at CM than we had last year. It’s fair to say we have not upgraded our attacking options but, IMO, we’ve clearly upgraded CB and CM compared to last year.

Saints 1-4 Newcastle - Match Thread
The Left Back replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Not sure if I can paste very well https://fb.watch/gyDvN2xRI4/ it was an extraordinary day, not least because it was a really soft penalty. It literally felt like the only way we could get a win. as others have said the emotions were all over the shop and we celebrated like we’d won the cup -
…says one of the most ridiculous posters on here. Reality is he wanted to go and the ‘pathway’ strategy cleared a space which Lavia more than filled. The injury was unlucky, but by then it would have caused some serious disharmony if we’d pulled the plug on Oriol’s deal. And, as Ralph said at the time, that’s not the way we treat loyal club servants.

Saints 1-4 Newcastle - Match Thread

Not that long unless you have a very short life span. I think Arsenal was only 9 days ago. -
Do you have some sort of clever autobot that posts this for you every week or do you have to do it yourself?

What if...? What if...? If my auntie had balls, she'd be my uncle. We are getting what we always get under Ralph. This article describes it. https://www.in-common.co.uk/2022/09/02/view-from-the-kingsland-ralphs-rollercoaster/ I've been pretty 'Ralph in' and I'd probably still be just about with that. However I'd have no argument with a change to try and freshen things up and have a bit of a reset. I'd hope the owners would have someone lined up who could pick up the reins of the project with minimum disruption. The WC break is the obvious time for a change if we are going to get one.

Not seen any stats but I'm imagining that refs letting more challenges go this season (which I really like) will have contributed to there being far fewer free kicks for everyone.

Yes I noticed that. Very fluid. Every time I thought I had it sussed it, it seemed to change. There were times when we looked like 3, 4 and 5 at the back. On the left Perraud managed to get caught offside furthest forward from a Bazunu kick. On the right Moi had an even more fluid role. He looked lost in that first spell when we were passive and then, as DMan said, was clearly RWB in a back 5 for the rest of the half. Second half though there were spells when Lyanco was clearly at right back putting the heebeegeebees up Martinelli and Tierney.

At the West Ham game four lads turned at entrance F in the Kingsland with West Ham shirts on. The stewards at the entrance said "I can't let you in wearing those, either remove them or cover them up". They covered them up and were let in. Clearly in breach of the first paragraph of the rules Turkish quoted. I don't mind the odd quiet soul turning up with family/friends (I've taken my Bournemouth supporting cousin in with me before and he's reciprocated down there) but it's on the understanding that they hide their allegiance sufficiently throughout the game

Southampton 1-1 Arsenal - Match Thread

Really enjoyed that. Character and some decent football. As others said we took 20 mins to get organised/going/aggressive but from then on we’re probably the better side overall. Not as easy on the eye as Arsenal but very good. I thought they all played well, probably Perraud my motm. I got saturated leaving the ground but still not as wet as the bed-wetting wet wipes from Wettingham who were posting here when the teamsheets came out. -

Seems possible, probable even. Moi is the new Paul Telfer. Versatile, appreciated more by the coaches than the fans -
Not sure if this thread will have legs but we've been having fun with the idea for the last 24 hours, so thought I would offer it here. Assuming there is no election for two years, and with all the difficulties we are facing as a country, who would you appoint in a fantasy government of national unity.? We need a leader, probably apolitical, who can unite everyone. And then a cabinet of experts united only in their desire to lead this country through the next two years. Imagine you could call on anyone, from whatever field, who would you choose? I'll kick off with a few thoughts: Leader - Sue Barker or David Attenborough Business Secretary - Peter Jones Environment Secretary - King Charles Home Secretary - Gary Neville Attorney General - Keir Starmer
-
And his distribution is absolutely top drawer. If we ever start playing more fluidly and aggressively he will be a great attacking weapon

Fuck me there’s some eeyores on here. Thankfully I followed the game elsewhere.

Time for you to re-read the laws of probability and swat up on standard deviation from the norm. also a refresh on co-morbidity factors will be needed to answer your questions. PS - 3 jabs, one semi-mild dose of Covid - if you want to play that into your statistical analysis.

It's a moot point as we're all going to be dead 2 years after the initial vaccine (which for me will be Feb next year). Where is Salmon Si these days? On the topic, not sure there's anything new here. Everyone knew the vaccine development process was shortened from 10 years to 10 months. Something had to give, longitudinal studies being one, broad field studies being another. Governments took decisions at the time. Most appreciated that, some resented it and a few smelt the whiff of conspiracy. Seems to me it's a bit like complaining of the psychological harm done by the education program on how to respond to a nuclear attack in the 60/70s. Just because there was no nuclear attack, doesn't mean we were all victims of mass manipulation at the time.

Can’t decide if Doherty looks more like Arthur Shelby or one of the Chuckle brothers

I've tried but sorry I can't do it any more. I crumbled after less than 10 minutes Switched on the Truss conference speech live and tried to listen with an open mind. I failed. How have we stooped so low? How is it possible that such banal, incompetent, unengaging, ridiculous people get to run our country. She wants to get Britain moving. She may get her way. Foreigners to Rwanda, Scottish, NI and even Welsh people to independent countries, businesses to Europe, talent to America and Asia. What a clusterfuck

Regardless of whether he should stay or go (I'm for keeping him for the season unless things go spectacularly wrong), your statements I've highlighted don't stack up. Ralph's win rate, which you rightly quote at 35% (34.94 % according to Wikipedia), gives us 40 points in a 38 games season without allowing for any draws, so clearly good enough for a team who's primary objective is survival. 35% win rate also puts him ahead of Nicholl, Ball, Souness, Jones, and only 0.5% off Strachan (I'm only looking at our managers in the top flight).

I’m really happy about this too. A player still not at peak, who can cover 2-3 positions. A popular guy in the squad by all accounts. Someone who has worked hard to recover from injuries and keep knocking on the door. Yes he can be frustrating, yes he often seems unaware of what he’s doing. But he’s got high level of technical skill and he is getting stronger physically.

Indeed. You don't happen to live on the Island of Portsea @cloggy saint?
