Can't believe this forum is so full of whining "fans". We have possibly broken our transfer record again and instead of celebrating, people moan about no CB. Yoshi and Stephens proved us all wrong against Liverpool in the cup and will hopefully do so again and again until VVD is fit again. I must admit to being slightly disillusioned to the start of the season and our dealings in the transfer market but will wait and see where we are when the window closes. We are in a tricky position that we have possibly over achieved the past couple of seasons and fans now expect us to kick on and spend a great deal to break into the top 5 or even 4. Unfortunately, the players who get us to these dizzy heights get given the opportunity of a big time move and we all we can do is get the best deal. What option do the club have? They can't hold them to their contract as they would have an unhappy player and no transfer fee. Until the players, as many have recently, buy in for the longer haul we are going to keep having the same summer misery. Admittedly, the lack of activity this summer has been disappointing but we don't need more squad depth, we need greater first team quality. There is no point spending £15 million on a player to appease the fans if he doesn't buy into the club and also if there is no potential value to be added. I think that the squad as it is will comfortably finish mid table.

What are the merits of the diamond formation? Is it to get the full backs at the byline crossing the ball? That doesn't work because they are not great at crossing but also, our centre forwards aren't in the box as they are covering the full back forward runs! I am thoroughly confused by it all, as it seems are the players. Get Hojberg on for JWP at half time.

We've wanted a goalscorer in the box for a while and Austin is that man yet too many times in this new system he is picking the ball up in almost the right back position. Get him up front, near the goal and give him chances. No need for him to be tracking back so that a full back can bomb on. Yes, he scored and we won but that was dreadful against 10 men.

Only watched this first half of our pre season so far and it doesn't look great. I don't really get the full backs almost playing as wingers if they've not got the quality when they get the ball. Simply play wingers on the wing and full backs in defence. Radical has been woeful and everybody seems a bit lost and confused. Normally I'm a glass half full type but not too sure about this new system.

My shirt arrived yesterday and it's ok, nothing more. I ordered a L and while it fits around the "belly region", it is quite long. Mine also had the £90 tag but assume this was simply a labelling cock up.

Would quite like him to stay but managers come and go. He's not a Saints fan so is gonna be motivated by money and transfer budget. The club have done well in the past managerial appointments and I trust them to do well again. Ideally I would like a bigger name that Eddie Howe, simply because I'm not sure how much pulling power that sort of manager would have. Gonna be another interesting summer, for sure.

Asked Skybet for odds on Koeman still being Saints manager at start of season. Response was, "we are not offering a market for that".
