Le Tissier: "Cortese is not a nice human being"
Frank's cousin replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Oh do get off your friggen high horse - 'shameful' manner - you have no ecking idea how this was handled behind closed doors, but like everyone makes assumptions atht it must be shameful. I dont give a flying feck whether Cortse is a nice man or not - I will never meat him and so his personality has no baring on my life. He is employed to do what he thinks is best for the club. He has made his call - either a big mistake or a great move time will tell, that is all there is to it. Nigel will have know about it, and will get pay off that will set him up for life and wont be out of work for long, nor having to starve or go without holidays - its hardly like the evil baron Cortese has suddenly made him destitute, yet the reaction on here would suggest otherwise from you self appointed holier than though 'ober fans' Jeez.... come back to reality -

Simply I dont believe Nigel was in teh dark on this, that is why I dont think its as evil a decsion as some like to make out - Nige Knew IMHO - those prophetic 'all good things have to come to an end' words after Cov suggest he knew it was the end of the road. As with Pards, fan pressure probably led to a stay, maybe show what he could do, but ultimately NC wants to follow his plan. I dont know whether the 'plan' will succeed. I dont know whether this will be a blunder, a set back or a master stroke, and NOR DOES ANYONE, yet for somet strange reason most cant see the bigger picture. Does it make him a bad man? Depends on how this was communicated to NIge and when - which we do not know. But having a strategy or plan and sticking to it desspite it maybe going agianst public opinion or pressure can be equally seen as a the virtue of sticking to what you believe in... NC could be evil, its possible, but I really dont lose sleep over whether he is nice or not... he is doing his job at a football club. Cant see why that is so dramatically important to some to like the way he is doing it. -

You mis the point Clarky - Whether Cortese is a 'nice man' or not is fricken irrelevant IMHO... And football is a crazt enough pot of loons and egos to know that nothing you hear on the rumour mill has any real baring on this. Cortese has made a decision, most fans dont like - its his job to make decisions as unpopular as they may be if he feels its the best for the club. This could be a monumental feck up or it could be a brave but great decsion, we dont know yet. Some fans seem just too reliant on the club for their emotional fulfilment to be healthy - this is just another strange yet common decision in football, may work, may not, but just because Sky and teh media like nothing better to hype it all up as if its a serious calamity, dont mean we have to lose wll comon sense and join teh hand wringing public emoting drama queens out there... thsi place has become very wierd today -

Yep because its his fault? Like you said, NCs decsions have worked out so far, yet as is fecking typical in this country we like nothing more than to forget the good things and focus on the mistakes (before they have even been proven as mistakes)... brilliant -

Ha ha ha - you jest once again surely? Oh dear Mr Cortese is not very nice ... why? because he sacked mr Adkins... oh dear, that it conclusive then... The fact that it appears to be part of a plan that evn NIgel seemed to know about (see Cov post match) just washes over some people - but hey we have a great opportunity to protest again and tell everyone what we think of the Swiss Italian by using the famous white hankie protest to make us all feel good about ourselves and have a good public emote just like on reality telly... fan tastic -
Take a look at this board today - the number of threads, the over emotive BS - its getting a bit pathetic frankly....
-
You do that - hope it makes you feel better.....
-
I did, got the wrong one when typing
-
FFS what bunch of over emotive drama queens - did you lot all cry in public when Diana died - publically emoting in collective national grief? Adkins was great, did great and did his job - we are proud of him for sure, but the reaction on here today is commical... Welcome Vegard - hope you do well fo us lad.
-
This is why he whole protest issue is ridiculous - Any protest is surely aimed at Cortese about his decision. He is Swiss Italian, so not sure he will get the white hankies thing... protesting in a Spanish way > What the feck is MacMillan (corrected) thinking... support the team on the pitch - this constant 'we are fans and we must have our say' is just selfish ******.
-
Oh dear what a shame, like I give a flying feck what about it - You guys who need to publically 'emote' please go ahead if it make you feel better about yourselves.

Aren't we getting a little carried away?

100% agree I hope when fan calm down they will see the bigger picture. I look it at like this. NC has a plan - some think its unrealistic pipedreams, but it is a plan driven by te esire to fulfil the ambition that Marcus appeared to have for the club. That plan has a strategy that he believes in - but that has put several in the game, ex players ex saints, and quite a few fans noses out of joint because its different to what some feel is the their way (and therefore the right way) of doing things. This plan is obviously phased with phase I being to get back to the Prem. NIgel Adkins was employed to do that job - and he did that excellently - something for which he should be rightly proud of and one which we can rightly applaud him for. What ever happens in the the future, Nigel can rest assured that his status within our club folklore is assured and quite rightly as as result we hold him in high esteem and therefore all are saddened by his departure. BUT as with any business, the plan is to bring in new faces when as as they are required and I believe that is why Nige seemed on a downer after the Cov game - he recognised he had completed his job and would soon be making way for the next man, the next chapter. NC has the repsonsibilty as pointed out above and like many in business you are NEVER guarranteed that every appointment or strategy will work out - ofen risks are taken in good faith and yet most football fans seem to expect a 'perfect performance' simply because they believe in their 'emotional ownership' of the club... I hope it works, not so that NC is seen as some sort of visionary but simply because it means the club makes more progress - the hand wringing, crying, protesting crowd who feel the need to publically emote their 'outrage' do this for selfish reasons - makes them feel better, but without considering what is best for teh team and the need for 3 points. -
Its called illustrating a point... I suggest those looking foolish are those that are reacting in the collective 'grief' and in some sort of desperate need to 'emote' publically....
-
Red my post again to ensure accuracy - if we were NOW currently rooted to teh bottom, those same fans WOULD we looking for action... you know it, I know it so get over this emotional drivel FFS
-
Get over yourself... FFS you lot going on crying and whinging makes you look like a bunch of kids. Naturally I cant be a real fan because I refuse to join in teh collecting hand wringing diana effect emotive out pouring that is obviously necessary to demonstrate committment... Jeez
-
You are obviously not a frequent visitor - as I have always stated that Adkins would get my support no matter what. But The club has its own strategy and moves on. Whether oit proves great or folly time will tell, but protesting in the stands is designed for one thing only - to satisfy some odd need to express anger over a football manager...
-
Are you all genuinely surprised or did you expect it?

Surprized it was not done in the summer . Nigel clearly brought in to do a job he did in 2 instead of 4 years - was given a contract that would have given him that 4 years to get to the prem. Think he managed to convince NC to give him a go, but NC always planning ahead for next phase. Disconnect between fan sand NC is that fan are emotinally invested, NC is practoical and pragmatic and his emotional drive comes not from supporting saints but from realising Marcus's dream - He is therefore never going to be swayed by Fan emotion or reaction as he has the belief his strategy is teh right one. Time will tell whether he is correct or not, but his decisions to date with Pards and Adkins have worked, so ury is once again out. So not shocked, but sad nonetheless as Adkins is a top bloke - but also excited that we may enter a new chapter -
... football fans in dire need to exorcise their inner demons and emotions through group protest about a football manager shocker... the same fans who would be chanting Adkins out if we were currently rooted to the bottom... the smae fans who will be cheering teh new guys name in 6 weeks time if we stormed up the table... footbal fans are fickle shocker... So go aheard if it makes you feel better and get it out yours system, but as others have said, always a bit sad when 'fans' but their own need to 'protest' ahead of the side...
-
blinkered as usual....
-
Not sure anyone actually described it as such.... although you did kind of describe Dortmund there if you make it an 80k stadium
-
Nice sentiments....but, the majority want their club to be the best it can be, and I am not sure there is much value in accepting a position in a league table as your natural place. Sport in about winning - as much as taking part provides its own pleasures, winning should be the ambition of the club and its fans and when I look at sides in mid table in teh prem who are 'happy' to be there accepting their status, I wonder why it has such an appeal. We enjoyed L1 and the CCC because we were winning and got promotion, had we still been mid table in the CCC would we hand on heart believe it was our rightful place and accept it because the players were average but happy and we all liked the chairman? Corteses will never be everyones cup of tea - but he does not need to be. He needs to deliver results and its his responsibilty to hire and fire the staff to ensure that happens. This is a brave and risky decsion for sure, but did any club ever get anywhere without being brave and taking risks (especially as we dont have 1bn to sling at players)? Sure it could fail, just as we were far from certyain to avoid relegation under Nige, but it seems obvious in hindsight looking at Nigels reaction after Cov last season, that he know the writing was on the wall - he had been brought in to do a job and he had done it in 2 seaons instead of 4. The next phase in te growth of the club will under a new man. As sad as I am to see nigel go, cant help but feel exited that this is a new chapter in NCs plan.
-
Wes, the point I wa strying to prove is not about bracketing Mauricio Pochettino with Pep, but that all this demand for Loyalty and crying about Adkins going and therefore what a c*** NC would not be heard if fans saw the new appointmnet as some sort of coup - trying to illustrate how pathetic all the over emotive stuff is. Nige is a decent guy who I have supported despite results because he gay his all, was honest, decent and had talent - I am as sad to see him go as anyone, but I am not falling into the collecting grief ****** 'Diana effect' ****** that seems to infect fans. We have a new manager who is well regarded by many in football, to me it seems a bit of a coup considering he was being watched by Real Madrid etc. We move on and hope it works out - whereas some on here have that classic miserable idiot attitude which comes across as wishing for failure to prove a point against NC... that to me is what is often so pathetic about fan behaviour.
-
Loyalty - its naive to think anyone other than fans show loyalty in football - I suspect Nigel KNEW this was coming as he had been employed to do a particular job. Xenophobia - go read some of the many threads and then tell me I am wrong The press - depends who you listen too - Le Tiss on Sky giving the usual anti NC slant or the Spaish football expert who thinks this is an 'exciting' opportunity for Saints. The problem with these decsions is simply that fans react emotionally - fair enough, but we show feck all loyalty when a manager is poor or inexperienced and results go against him - we chant we want him out... fickle Time will tell whether NC has made a stupid mistake or a visonary decision - to date he got Pards and Adkins right, they did their job and saw the club progress. We have struggled in the prem, with fans being 'baffled' by Niges's selections and tactics at times... Mauricio Pochettino will be under pressure, but should be given our support, he is our manager now and deserves his chance to win us over. Nigel should and will always have a place in our collective heart for what he has done, but we move on and hopefully on to a new chapter that builds on what nige has delivered to date.
-
Always makes me laugh.... all thi spite and hate for NC now, yet only a few months ago, people were calling for Adkins to be sacked... also would folk still be so upset if it was Pep Guiardola (spelling) who had been brought in? Fickle..FFS
-
Think some of you need to take a deep breath and calm down. The reactionary xenophobic idiocy already being spouted is more shameful on our club than anything NC has done. Then look at this pragmatically rather than over emotionally. We all liked Adkins - he is a decent honest guy who I believe has the talent to be a very good manager at the top level....one day... and I kind of thought that his biggest challenge would always be whether he could get there quick enough to meet Cortese's ambition. It now seems that NA's post match reaction at the Coventry game last seaosn WAS the most telling - a man who kneww he had been brought in to do a job which was get us to the prem and when that happened it would only be a matter of time before he would be replaced with someone who NC felt would be able to take us to the next level. We are all sadened by this decision because we recognise whtat Nigel; has brought to the club - but I suspect this was not as big a shock to Nigel as it seems to be to fans. Yes its a risk given the timing, yes it seems callous given all NIgel has achieved, but to start acting like a bunch of 3 years olds, crying, protesting, and being all anti the new guy is childish and ridiculous... it also simply creates the divisions and culture so amny of you seem worried will return and lets not forget the countless screams for Adkins sacking after 5 games.... football fans, bunch offickle jessies... As with Pardue, the decision seems to be about a structured strategy - so recent improvements are irrelevent. as with Adkins appointment, it was risky and shocked many, but the last two years showed it was the RIGHT decision. The new guy, seems to be someone highly regarded in Spain - someone who NC belives will be the right fit for the next chapter or phase - yes its risky, and this time more shocking because NA is such a decent bloke and had achieved so much, but the reality is we did have the financial muscle to get out of those two divisions. I am sad to see Nigel go. He was for me a breath of fresh air - honest grafter who was learning all the time. I wish him alll the best and thank him for what he has done for the club, but also welcome Mauricio Pochettino - its not his fault we feel bad about Adkins and the childish xenophobia is pathetic.
