This is it. Up until this season, whilst there were many bad performance under Ralph, we also had some good ones. We haven’t put 45 minutes together of good football under Jones. Surely there isn’t a single saints fan who believes Jones is the man for us? Even ducky has gone quiet.
-
Well…. It can only get better.
-
But that’s clearly not what happened is it. Charley came on for Lavia, Walcott came on for Edozie.
-
Winger looks handy, quick and direct. Trying to make things happen. The striker, absolutely fucking terrible.
-
The thing is, we do. Whilst it isn’t great reading, we’re still a PL club who has a chance of staying up, and that alone would attract 90% of available managers out there. i wish I had your optimism, I think we’re fucked under Jones.
-
Worrying. You’d have thought after this stupid experiment, SR would have learned. Carrick seems a very reactionary appointment with no real plan, after a nothing more than handful of decent games in the championship. That’s not to say that he won’t go on to be a good manager, but there’s a lot of unknowns at the minute. Too many for my liking. Maybe worth the risk next season in the championship, not if we pull the trigger on Jones this season.
-
By coaches, I assume you mean Selles. The rest are his men. Who, if we’re being honest are just as under qualified as him. Grim reading if all this is true.
-
Jesus. Tell me you know fuck all about football without saying you know fuck all about football.
-
NJ has been given more time to build something than any manager who come in mid season has ever had. If you could see what his attempted tactics were, then you’d give him more sympathy. The issue is, we have no tactics, no style. Just kick and run shit. It’s championship football being played by a championship manager.
-
Fair enough, seems the comment was taken out of context then.
-
Ralph only looks better because Jones is so bad. He’s a good manager, but his time was up and needed to go.
-
Or maybe DCC wasn’t happy that he didn’t start Tuesday night, when 3 car crashes did. I don’t blame him, mid boggling.
-
A subtle dig? A reason why some are being ‘dealt with’ in the U23’s…?
-
Really, really worrying / concerning statement. Also incredibly wrong and blaming they players rather than himself. Toss pot.
-
I don’t actually think they would love Lyanco though. He cant defend. His so called ‘aggression’ is simply him getting too tight and flying into tackles which result in people skipping past him 9 time out of 10. There’s half a player in there, under the right manager, but idiots like Jones, encouraging his brain dead defending, make him worse.
-
It’s complete madness that he’s not tried this. Especially when everything else he’s tried has gone to shit.
-
An absolutely mind boggling decision. It genuinely makes absolutely no sense. ABK I kinda get, he’s been out needs game time. Djenepo, meh. Orsic, I could also understand, he’s struggled to adapt to the PL / our system. DCC, absolutely nothing positive at all can come from him playing today. He must be match fit or at least fit enough to play, he’s our best CB. He could easily get an injury here, for absolutely nothing. We’ve just played with 3 CB’s and he was ‘rested’, why the fuck is he playing today? Jones has started to lose his marbles. Not good.
-
Possibly, or it could be that Monaco wasn’t a great fit for him. They were a bit of a mess at the time and on a cowards trend. Certainly not the club they were a few years back. IIRC, Kompany wasn’t a raving success at Anderlecht.
-
He’s done a really good job at Boro, all be it in a short space of time. Naturally, someone with as little experience as him would be a huge risk, but then again so was Jones and I don’t think it could get any worse. Personally, if we’re going down the unproven route, If / when we drop, I’d like us to take a hit at Henry. Very highly rated as a coach with the Belgium squad.
-
££ stupid amounts of £ for an unproven player. We can’t blame the club for this one, especially when clubs like Chelsea come in offering wages to a 17 year old with no experience, that lower end championship players would be on. It takes a certain type of lad to turn down the sort of money branded about for him, which’s set him up for life. As you say, not much we could do.
-
A couple of points to put this argument to bed. - Tino wasn’t / isn’t our best player who we literally cannot play without. - KWP is / was equally as strong if not better than Tino. - We weren’t rock bottom desperate for points to stay up, where you cannot afford to rest your best player.
-
I thought it was strange that Lavia played that FA cup game. I can only suggest Jones saw it as an opportunity to win to keep up his win %
-
1. We seem to have an affiliation with Man City, signing a lot of their younger players (not a dig), who have been coached in a particular way. What was the recruitment process for identifying Nathan Jones as manager, who seemingly has a completely opposite style. 2. Throughout this season, we have seen a tendency to try and move towards a back 3/5. It started with Ralph and has been continuously tried by Jones. Is there directive from above, I.e you, that this is our preferred formation? If so, what is the short to medium term plan to develop a playing squad which is suited to this formation. As currently it’s clearly not.
-
Yes, which is why this thread is booming every single time we play. Hardly like people are picking the bones off a unlucky defeat after a great run
-
It’s extremely naive to think that it’s just a striker that’s our issue. It hasn’t helped, but we’re still piss poor. Worse than before in fact. That’s on Jones.
