Naturally, you’re going to get more exposure and become more highly regarded, putting in performances in the PL each week than you would be in Scottish league or Austrian league, in Mane case. It’s less of a risk for clubs to sign a proven PL player than one who’s never played on this country before. Personally, I don’t buy the we improve players propaganda that comes out of the club. We give them a platform to express their talent in a high profile league, yes, but you’ve either got the ability or you haven’t. You could argue that given game time is improving them, which I would agree with, but I think in terms of Wanyama, VVD, Mane etc. They would have improved if they played for us or someone like West Ham. They were naturally really gifted players, hence why we brought them. For every player that comes in and succeeds, we probably have 2 who don’t.
-
Which is exactly why he should be playing or selected for England. He’s very good at what he does, he’s not very good at what would be needed in an England shirt. Hence the whole debate last week.
-
Did we improve him or was that just his natural development from game time in a top league. Equally as important as his development at Celtic (and the same can be said for Elyounossi and Wanyama). Without knowing the ins and outs of their individual training schedule, it’s pretty impossible to say. From memory, both he and Wanyama came to us as pretty rounded players though. Naturally, playing at the next level up does give you exposure to the bigger clubs that you might not get in the Scottish league.
-
Agreed. If players like Djenepo and Redmond aren’t good enough for us, who is going to want (and pay decent money) for them?
-
You know what, I cba. This has been done so many times it’s boring. your obsession with him is soo strange, he lives rent free in your strange little mind.
-
Adams hasn’t scored since our win against Norwich on 25th February. As a team; we’ve created very little since then.
-
Yes, because they have 2 very very good CB’s who cover for him. As a defender, TAA is rubbish. He can cross and pass the ball, but cannot defend, his positioning is appalling. For England, any time he’s played, he’s been crap. Which was the debate that was had with Twrong last week and subsequently proven by him being exposed this week against city. Miles behind James & Walker. I’d even put tripper and maybe KWP ahead of him for England. Bang average player.
-
We’ve not won a league game since 25th February. The way we’re playing doesn’t suit any strikers style. Probably Why Adams hasn’t scored either.
-
Howe has completely changed the style in which Newcastle play. Changes like that don’t happen overnight, they take time to embed and build confidence in the squad up again. That is likely why it took 2 / 3 month for results to improve.
-
This is because Burnley largely play to his strengths of getting the ball in the box, where as Broja largely plays off the shoulder, which suits our style significantly. If he was at Burnley, he’d struggle. Comparing apples with oranges.
-
Fair enough, pointless argument going way off topic. But regardless of if you think he’s better or not, he’s clearly not, but so so, he wouldn’t get into our side as he’s not a Ralph type of player.
-
You play far too much football manager bro.
-
Which has worked really well for them since, hasn’t it.
-
The debate should actually be, would wood play ahead of Adams, not Broja. Given in a 2 he’d be used as a ‘support striker’.
-
11th & 11th (plus semi final of both cups). On par with your boys first season and 4 places higher than he’s achieved since. so yeah, eerrrrrr crap.
-
Could it be that Newcastle are just better than us at the minute? Over the season, has wood out scored Broja?
-
I mean he finished 5th in his first season, so errr yeah, absolutely shite.
-
What relevance does that have? Still digging out Broja for no apparent reason then… your obsession is unhealthy. How many has Armstrong scored in that same period of time?
-
Martinez, another manager to achieve more than Ralph (FA Cup). De Boer, likewise, another manager to achieve more. Southgate, literally England’s best performing manager since 66… absolutely crap.
-
This is all relative though. Ralph took Lepzig to 2nd and in the champions league with a side that was far greater than expectation many of which the players have moved on to top clubs. Ralph, has also managed to embarrass the club on 2 (arguably 3) occasions now in 2 record 9-0 defeats. Something Howe hasn’t come close to. Not much in it imo, you could argue both have different strengths and different weakness.
-
Their 2 big signings have hardly played, so their money has been spent on Burn, Wood and Target. None of which would get in to our side.
-
It’s a weird argument to right someone off purely because they were relegated. Martinez took Wigan down, now manager of the number 1 side in the world (Belgium), poch got sacked whilst Espanyol were bottom, even Southgate, took Middlesbrough down amd has since out performed any England manager since 66. It’s a ridiculous way of looking at things, however, as we know, mr War isn’t capable to interpreting anything outside a spreadsheet.
-
Funny in the week where we had someone arguing how Trent was the best thing since sliced bread because of his progressive passing stats (just behind the LB at RB), he got absolutely exposed against city and James had a blinder against Madrid. It turns out, if you didn’t know already, football in fact isn’t played on a spreadsheet.

He took bournemouth from the brink of relegation to the national league, to the premier league and kept them up for 4/5 seasons. As it happens, when he started to spend some money, is when it went tits up. He’s come in and done a very good job at Newcastle, transforming them from a side who hadn’t won 1 game under Bruce, playing a very, very negative style, to a solid mid table maybe even top half, side. He in his career has achieved just as much as Ralph has.
