Hi Sue, yeah Ive had a chat with a few Rovers and it appears not one of his strengths. More of a head down striker and shoots a lot from distance. Best comparison us Shane Long with a better goal return.

Another Rovers fans view. This one might be a little controversial but don’t shoot the messenger. Armstrong's strength, in my opinion, is to make a yard, with his pace, and strike a fierce shot. He doesn't need to beat defenders and is confident having a strike. I would hesitantly and very generally compare Adam Armstrong to a young Shane Long, mostly, in terms of their somewhat stocky frame and burst of pace. A potential difference is that Armstrong has got a long-range strike in him, as evidenced by a couple of goal of the season awards in his career, which, I'm not sure Long has, so much. I'm sure others might correct me on this comparison, as it is based on very limited knowledge of Shane Long. The problem Armstrong may have is if he's asked to play as a wide forward, rather than the centre forward. He'll have to work a lot harder and won't have the luxury of waiting on the shoulder of defenders so much. I do wonder whether he'll struggle in that position given that Saints have Redmond, Djenepo, Walcott, Tella and, possibly, Diallo competing with him. Perhaps, Hassenhuttl does see him as centre forward. Regardless, I think Armstrong's an intelligent player and could adapt, with the right manager. PS. Saints memories - Marians Pahars' goal in our Roy Hodgson/Brian Kidd relegation season. From what I remember, it was a late goal that made relegation all but certain. Especially, painful as Pahars was one of my favourite non-Rovers players.

Just got this from the Rovers fans. The prevailing opinion is this 1 When you are the underdog playing the big boys (City, Liverpool, Man U etc) with their high backlines, I think he will be a great outlet for you. Ball over the top on the break, his pace will get him in, and he is clinical in those situations. However, when you are up against the Crystal Palace/West Ham types, and you do your possession based tactics, not sure how well he will perform there. Link up play isn't brilliant, and he often gets frustrated and tries potshots from 30 yards, when laying it off to the winger is by far the better option. 2 I think you’re right to be unconvinced about Armstrong at the top level. At our level he needs about 4 good chances per goal scored and I don’t think he’ll get that many chances at top level. He’s not shot shy in any way, in fact he pulls the trigger from distance too often. Heading ability is ordinary. Pretty quick pace wise but not lightening fast. One on one with the keeper, I could be wrong ,but I can’t remember him ever scoring. If I had to put my house on him being a success in the prem I’d say no but I hope he proves me wrong as he always did his best for Rovers. Just passing on their thoughts

No, that was Fabrice Fernandez or crop circles as we called him. Although no end product is quite harsh. Was a decent little winger for us

This is all very sad 😔. So much division. Why does it bother people so much. If you don’t like it ignore it. Others want to support our players taking the knee. Where’s the harm?
-
Why,how could it be worse? The greatest trick the Tories ever pulled was getting the people to vote against their own interests

Not too worried about the Sorloth rumours. If he comes he might be a relevation. Lukaku has just gone to Chelsea for £97 million. Don’t forget they ket him go. Also many thought he was poor at Man Utd hence his sale to Inter. Now he is on the up again. So its all a gamble. I accept the pool we are fishing in.

Slightly off tangent but was reminiscing over older prolific strikers and getting misty eyed over Rickie Lambert. Not over the goals etc but the circumstances. When we were not premier league it was harder to follow the games as they were not on telly all the time etc but what ever you were doing that Saturday or Wednesday you would try to tune in to the radio or look up the in play score on internet and invariably up would pop the name of Lambert with such regular consistency. It was a nice throwback to the glorious not knowing everything instantly. Rose tinted or not I miss the non league days.

Love the optimism on Che but we will be lucky to have him anywhere near as good as Beatts. He was a cracking player for us.

Yes I am, in relative terms we don’t have a lot to piss in. We have got rid of Lemina, Hoedt, Carrillo amongst others. No mean feat in one window. A left back in, two for the future. Yes, so far I’m happy. Throwing our limited funds around has not worked so I reiterate again I am happy so far. No need to get defensive. It’s all about opinions. Still plenty of time to go my friend. Patience..... we happy no control over these things. We just have to accept the club are doing their best. Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt until the window “ slams shut”
-
I remember we paid a club record£4 million for Rory Delap. We have plenty of time yet to spaff the little money we have. Seems a decent window so far. Lots of dead wood out and some nice non flashy acquisitions
-
Why so hysterical? He’s a championship player 🤦♂️. There are plenty more around. Im sure we’ll get someone. Im quite glad were not panic buying again.
-
Flat game but a run out. No real plan or style to the team. For a while there when Ralph came in we looked to have a fast, aggressive pressing team. Don’t seem to see to much evidence of that these days. Seems very much a transition team . Not settled this side. ( I know it’s pre season) I foresee a frustrating season. I hope I’m wrong.
-
So do we think this is more or less the starting lineup with Stu added in somewhere. che/tella Romeu/Diallo Salisu/Bednarek Do we reckon this is the Spine?
-
Very true. I remember the hooha about signing a crock for £20 million a few years ago. Players come and go. He was certainly a good player and a class above a lot of other strikers we’ve had but he was no Rickie Lambert. Let’s hope we come up with another gem. Just the glorious merry go round that is supporting Saints.
-
When was the truly last signing anyone was excited by before being inevitably let down? I can only think of the hype around Rudi Skacel at the time. It’s been a while that’s for sure, maybe Rickie Lambert but I remember thinking that Skacel was to be the undiscovered Maradona. Forgot to mention Augustine Delgado. Hype around him also, especially when he scored against Man Utd. Again to be let down, mainly by injuries though.

Are you a racist Weston? Sort of got a snarky tone in your last post.

Irrelevant if not in power. The tories are in charge of policy and have been for 11 years. Immigration issues are their fault. Any issues with funding public services is purely down to them. Blaming immigration is a dog whistle distraction a la farage.
-
The Tories have been in power 11 years. This not a “Labour party” issue.
-
Yes we should take as many as we can. Immigration is a net contributor to our treasury. FACT. They pay more into our economy than take out. FACT. That in turn pays for schools, hospitals, police officers etc. Do not blame the person. Blame the people who spend your money on Royal yachts, garden bridges and fancy plane paint jobs.

Aylan Kurdi, 3 years old. Perhaps you remember the picture. He washed up on a Turkish beach….. Perhaps if Turkey had the RNLI he may be alive today…. Compassion amongst some seems in short supply.
