That would fund it and then some from an FFP perspective because he's home grown so that is pure profit, same reason they sold Lewis Hall to Newcastle

Hopefully we take confidence from the performance against Arsenal in the league cup. With the right setup, we can trouble them for sure

Saints 4-0 Walsall - Match Thread
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
Could easily have finished about 8:2 with better finishing. Fraser was the best player on the pitch by a mile, made about 20 runs waiting for a ball through that never came and looked quicker than everyone else. Impressed by Meghoma, seemed to be running and running, quick and direct with his runs and passes, and a decent cross on him too. I’m not sure he was tested defensively but he looked more Luke Shaw and less Jake Vokins to me. SAA had a quiet game but we seemed to work a lot more down the left than the right and I’m not sure he had much help from Holgate going forward so was often facing two men. Glad Dibling and Bragg got minutes, happy to see Dibling take on players with ease and get some shots away. Bragg didn’t seem to take more than 2 touches anytime he had the ball, could probably come in for Smallbone and you wouldn’t notice -
3 most improved players of 2023
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to Fraser Spinney's topic in The Saints
I had expected the three to be Bednarek, Armstrong and Armstrong personally. Stu has found form that seemed to abandon him for 18 months, Adam is back in the goals, and Jan is now a key part of our defence. -
Lowest three in the premier league last season were the relegated teams' goalkeepers, so it does mean something, and it isn't made up, they don't just pluck the numbers out the sky. It is less made up than XG against for example.

Watford 1-1 Saints - Match Thread
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to The Cat's topic in The Saints
Not only should we try it, how about we try and stop it too. Two similar goals have cost us 4 points now, 2 against Rotherham and 2 against Watford. Long balls up, not dealt with, and a shot from outside the box beats Bazunu because he's in no mans land in the box not able to make a routine save. Shouldn't happen more than once but he's let it. -
Not sure what impact it had, but Pompey's starting 11 featured 3 players who played for us last season, so they'd have good insight into us, moreso than when we beat them to win the title 2 seasons ago. They've kicked on since then, and are top of their league, and now can be promoted without winning the same playoff we had to as two teams come up. If they're promoted and we don't go up, we'd likely get a game at St Mary's next year.

Top of the Spanish League with Girona! Played all 16 of their games, only kept 4 clean sheets, but has a save percentage of 75% which is in the top 3 in the league. Not the keeper we had, but maybe the one we expected him to become when given the chance and years of maturity and experience.

FA Cup Third Round - Alfreton/Walsall (h)

Doesn’t seem we’ve been picked for TV so I’d expect this to be 3pm on the Saturday -
Saints fan that collapsed at Rotherham game passes away
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to markr27's topic in The Saints
In my eyes that makes him nothing less than a hero. Choosing the hardest decision, in the knowledge he’d help strangers, doesn’t get better than that from a person. The club should try and recognise him and what he’s done there. Maybe a plaque on his seat (if he had a season ticket) or something in collaboration with the family- 19 replies

Durham have a good squad but have more central England contracts this year that might mean the star players aren't present. They're due to have Boland and Ackermenn with them this coming season who are both very good cricketers. I think our squad is strong, we're relying again on bowling over batting this year I think
-
Probably about half of their first choice 11 and the rest on the bench, most of whom came on. Every single one of them has international caps so a very strong team still. I haven't done the maths, but I would assume given the age of our squad, the Arsenal 11 will have played comfortably more international matches, than our 11 will have played professional games.
-
Sold over 12,500 tickets, the final last year only had 19,000 so clearly a big deal! Sadly I do think a large number will be wanting to see some of the Lionesses, rather than necessarily the under 23 lionesses we have, but if it inspires a new generation of Saints fans then that is a great thing.

We played a National League team in the third round in 09/10, but not sure they're a minnow given it was Luton, now a league above us
-
We must be in a fairly niche position that our back-up keeper from 17 years ago has a better save percentage in the league than our current number 1.
-
That is a shame, think this year we ideally want to finish close to promotion, build on the squad again next summer, and then make a real push for WSL. If we get promoted this year, we might just get thumped every week next year
-
Hadn't realised our group includes Arsenal, I'm sure they'll rest most of their stars against us but that'll be a massive test at St Marys. Definitely one I'll try and get down to watch.

Players like Armstrong and Alcaraz, that can run at players and open up space for others in the process, and can play more intricate football. Mara isn't the answer off the bench that is for sure, he was hardly in the box when he came on against Rotherham, when we needed a presence in there the most.

The Swindon Reading rivalry that is competing to be the bleakest place to be asked to go and work
-
I think it is learning what is working and what isn't which Martin just doesn't seem to be doing. Some of the football we played on Saturday was lovely, quick passes to work our way out of trouble and up the pitch, and a few times we worked our way into really dangerous positions. But from there we cut the ball back and realise we have no players anywhere near the box because they were all still struggling up the pitch from having made 60 passes in our own half to get there. We can clearly dominate possession in this league, but we aren't doing it successfully enough to create chances, or we end up with so many players out of position from trying to find space that we end up looking dodgy at the back. We're just repeating what Swansea did last year, and that will get us somewhere between 3rd and 12th in the league, but we could be doing so much more with the players we have.
-
I've seen you mention this game so often in the past few days, and I don't think the comparison is there. One is a game where we got 1 point against a team we should probably have got a draw against based on the balance of play and were relegated anyway. The other was a brilliant away win, against a quality team who should have battered us based on the amount of respective chances we had, that helped us be promoted. I'd have Kelvin from any season with us (except the first back in the PL) over Baz any day.
-
I don't get why more managers don't work as coaching consultants, and clubs use out of work managers to help them. If I wanted to get a team doing a high press for a season, and we'd started but needed some work I'd be sure to reach out to Ralph, get him to sign an NDA, offer him some cash and see what wisdom he has.

Stoke 0-1 Saints - Match Thread
Fabrice Fernandes no.1 fan replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Bit of a cliche admittedly but isn't it nice to see players who stand up for each other like that and bite back a bit. Lots of teams we've put out in the last few years would have lost that game by losing their heads much earlier in the game -
Agreed, something we've fallen foul of over the years is a lack of plan B, because we don't have players who offer anything different. A big lump of a striker to chuck on for the last 20 minutes if you're chasing a game and the opposition are just sitting in is always going to be more useful than someone who plays on the shoulder of the last defender, if the defenders are on their own penalty spot to start with.
