  2. I have seen something but can't think where, about the amount Ronaldo has taken and missed. JWP does have great consistency, and the number of games shouldn't matter too much when you think for the first half of his Saints career other players were taking them (Lambert, Tadic etc)
  3. He hit a lovely purple patch where he was unstoppable, such pace and power. FF was none of the above, but something about those gloves and magic feet made me love him!

  5. Seen this doing the rounds and it is a bit frustrating. Trophies aren't a good way of judging individual talent, both players were part of successful teams and won trophies, Bale's team just won more. By that same metric David Peach and Bobby Stokes were better players than MLT... Beckham had 51 assists in 159 games for RM, an assist every 3.1 games. Bale has 67 in 256, so an assist every 3.8 games. Ronaldo had 103 goals in 177 games for RM, a goal every 1.7 games. Bale has 106 in 256, so a goal every 2.4 games. Bale has been great at times, don't get me wrong, but this is the wrong way to make this point.
  6. This feels like a bit of an unnecessary thread. The chance being discussed is a low XG, because of the direction AA approaches the ball from (not angled towards goal) and the wide angle he is at the goal from (https://fbref.com/en/expected-goals-model-explained/) Of course, as a premier league striker he will be disappointed to have not scored, as we all were that he didn't. That doesn't mean though, that he didn't play well (pressed very effectively) or that any other strikers we have would have scored it. Broja hits a lot of shots from similar positions into the side netting. As for the more recent contents of this thread, surprised it has lasted this long before a moderator realises it is essentially bullying an individual.
  7. There were massive contrasts in crown noise yesterday. We were very loud going into half time, and still at 2:1 down, while they were still pretty quiet there. Both sets of fans were so quiet at one point at 3:1 that I could hear Ralph, not a good sign.

  9. In light of the recent resurrection of a thread claiming Ralph should F Off, I was considering my own history of bad opinions relating to Saints. I think it would give us all a sense of clarity to get these off our chests and move past them. My personal regret is my unmoving opinion in the late 2000's that Simon Gillett was the perfect partner for Schneiderlin and would help us roar through the leagues. Didn't quite pan out like that...

For Fantasy Premier League players it is gameweek 25, which includes the match between Man United and Brighton, despite the games being in a separate calendar week to the first they played, and in the same week as another games they both respectively play that is in a separate gameweek. It all just makes too much sense, the table is so easy to read and everyone knows exactly where we are in the season
  12. In an attempt to get this back on track... I would stick with the same team as started on Saturday but swap in Stephens for Bednarek. Stuart Armstrong has to start for me, he and Moi really look like the best fit for the roles they're being asked to play at the moment, tucking in more and playing as 10's rather than wide midfielders, allowing the full backs to overlap.

  15. Also seems like the ref ignored the prospect of it being a head injury, he follows play and looks back over his shoulder to see Broja still on the ground holding his head. Thought the rules, because of player safety, are to stop the game and allow treatment in that situation?

  17. Every game seems to be either Portsmouth or Ipswich this season! Looks like we do have some real quality in the squad, and wouldn't be out of our depth up a division
  18. The real issue on this thread seems to be the assumption we only have a remaining game, not games plural. Is this ITK, will this winter break last longer than we realise. Edge of the seat stuff it really is

I thought similar about Lyanco at Wolves, he hurts himself making a clearance and waves at the ref clutching his neck but stood up, the game plays on and Traore scores by being in the exact position Lyanco should be, but by then he has gone down. If he drops like a sack when the ball leaves his head the game is stopped and Wolves don't score. We still would have lost 2-1 but stopping them on the counter attack at that point might have helped!

  21. Such a bizarre mix of players in that squad, but an absolutely brilliant result, up there in terms of Molyneux memories with Lundekvam scoring past Paul Jones! Looking at what that squad has gone on to do is very interesting (to me at least...) Bialkowski- made another 350 appearances in the Championship and League 1 and is still going Ostlund- played 8 more professional games after leaving us then retired Pele- ended up at AFC Totton Powell- wound down his career after leaving us Makin- retired the following season Guthire- playing in the second division in Iceland currently Wright- only played 3 more professional games after leaving us Skacel- played for 9 more clubs and was an international for Czech Republic Surman- played most of his career in the premier league Best- played in the premier league for Newcastle but then found his level below that Saganowski- played at Euro 2008 for Poland BWP- NY Red Bull's highest scorer and one of the top strikers in the MLS for best part of a decade Dyer- Won the league with Leicester and made a good career of it at Swansea Licka- Still playing in Czech Republic, and was an international for them like Skacel. I wonder where Saturday's team will all end up, hopefully most better than this lot.

  24. That would certainly start skewing the goal difference if the same approach was taken in football. What if both teams cannot fulfil the fixture, a 48-48 draw?
  25. I thought JWP was good, and seemed fairly good against West Ham too. In both games he had an extra player behind him, due to using the 3-5-2 or 4-1-4-1 formations, so I wonder if that makes a difference in allowing him the ball slightly higher up the pitch. KWP was back to the player he was last year. Valery looked good, probably one of his best games for the club
