  1. So that's Will Merry who was on loan at Eastleigh the end of last season?????
  2. I'm still hopeful (I know unrealistic) about KWP staying. I think we should offer a contract that makes him our top earner. Even with Sugawara joining I wonder if we could play KWP further up the pitch (as a midfielder or even winger) with them both playing at the same time. KWP has the ability and could work well IMO.
  3. I wonder if Larios or Meghoma can play RB? This is what Ralph said when we signed Larios: "Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl praised Larios for his positional versatility, able to cover either flank, upon his announcement as a Southampton player."
  4. What's the situation with Janny B? Last year of contract? I think he has improved significantly recently and our system suits him much better but perhaps we're looking to cash in if he's reluctant to extend. I don't think we paid much for him so would also help FFP.
  5. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but the RM quote on Alex extending his contract talks about being part of a goalkeeping union rather than necessarily being first choice. Having Alex as an option allows us to take our time (and less financial pressure) when finding a new number one, perhaps waiting for a bargain towards the end of the window. If it hadn't been for the Baz injury the club would have been prepared to let him go and even though Alex did well I hope/expect they're still looking for another keeper to strengthen "the union". Here's the RM quote on Alex: "He’s an integral part of the goalkeeping union Dean has here and knows the values associated with this football club. “I’m delighted he’s decided to sign, as he brings significant Premier League experience alongside his ability as a goalkeeper, and that will be important next season.”
  6. This...100%...He was part of the Sean Dyche Burnley, which really knew how to defend. A left back that can defend!?!?...that would be nice for a change. Plus he can deliver a cross, which would make us a bit less one dimensional if we can get Ross Stewart firing (understand RM might not be happy about crossing...and the Loch Ness Drogba needs to be fit...but I'm hoping for both...)
  7. Dank

    Danny Ings

Danny Ings is the better player if fit. Che's best attribute is falling over. I'd take a chance on Ings over Adams.
  8. Take any big club name and add the words B Team
  9. When they take a urine sample is Russ outside shouting Wee Man?
  10. Walcott didn't work because he relied on pace. Lallana is perhaps the most technically gifted Saints player I've seen since Letiss and fits well with our style of play (recieving and moving the ball forward in tight areas). Coming on with 10 minutes to play and leading by a goal when we are struggling to hold the ball would be useful... but more importantly teaching technical skills... there's not many coaches out there who have demonstrated better at the highest level. I'd take him on a free (player/COACH)
  11. I put a lump on Leeds to get something when we were 3-0 up (at massive odds) just because I was also there in 2005 when they put 4 past us in the second half (and that felt even worse than the other second half Saints drubbings I've witnessed)....On Saturday I was very happy to lose the emotional hedge...BTW don't bet kids
  12. Agree with this. I think the solution for too many centre backs is to have Bednarek, Stephens, THB and ABK competing for two spots (please not three) with KWP and Holgate the options for right back. The player to offload is James Bree.
  13. I don't know much about Luton and the possible new manager but I will give him a chance before deciding. Not sure if it's been mentioned already but Nathan Jones was 2022 EFL Championship Manager of the Season. I'm not sure who decided he was the best manager in the Championship last year but that must count for something. https://www.efl.com/-more/efl-awards/2022-winners/
  14. This is exactly the team I'd play. I suspect we might compromise because Perraud isn't ready.
  15. Based on the post from the Rangers fan (thank you) it seems Joe Aribo can also play at LB. This provides some cover if Perraud is injured and Small is not deemed ready. It also could free up JWP in mid field to cover RB if KWP is injured. This gives us options until Tino is back up and running. This flexibility takes pressure of full back cover and allows us to focus on improving the attack. Hopefully we'll get to see KWP and Tino both play on the right when fit. Also think Perraud did a good job for his first season so would like to keep them all happy and playing. The other thing the Rangers fan mentioned was the quality of Aribo's first touch and close control. Brings back memories of Fabrice Fernandes (yes, I remember the crop circles)
  16. The last couple of seasons our collapse in form as a team seemed to coincide with a dip in form of Oriol Romeu. When he was on form the team looked dominant but I don't think he has the engine to maintain his best over an entire season. It's a physically demanding position and few players have the stamina of JWP. The season before, when Oriol was injured, we looked terrible. I hope Lavia, whilst inexperienced, can ease some of the pressure, or provide an alternative at DM. I hope we can get this over the line and extend Romeu's contract.
  17. Last season when 25 thousand saints fans repeatedly sang Shane Long to the tune of 'Hey Jude' is one my favourite Saints memories. My son occasionally randomly starts singing it and he has no idea who the Beatles are. I actually think Shane was a good player under Koeman and when partnered with Danny Ings. Thanks Shane.
  18. James Ward Prowse (305 league games), Oriol Romeu (324), Che Adams (299) and Stuart Armstrong (427) have 1355 league games of experience between them. A large number of them in the Premier League. I hope all of them will be a part of the team this season and don't feel yet the imbalance between potential and experience. I somewhat understand the concern about lack of experience in defence, but KWP and Perraud seem intelligent players and have close to 200 league games between them.
  19. SEVEN!!!
  20. This... with a back four of KWP, Salisu, Perraud and ABK we have some serious pace at the back for when the press goes wrong... looking forward to seeing them play together.
  21. Signing players with huge potential is a big part of our business model now so I'm cautiously excited about Bazanu so it's not just about him but also about attracting others with high potential. We've been lucky to see a lot of young players with huge potential and it's great when the work out.
  22. Yeah, that was a really nice moment, especially because it might (on current frequency) be his last. You could see it really meant something to him and the fans took the opportunity to show their appreciation.
  23. Brilliant interview by Semmens. I've not been this happy with where Saints are heading since under Keoman. I hope in the summer we will recruit players similar to Tino and Broja from Chelsea or City (attacking midfield please). His interview reinforces the message "come to Southampton and reach your potential"
