It all depends on what the Board want Southampton to achieve. If it is going to be treading water in the bottom third of the Premiership season after season then keep Adams. If there are aspirations for better things then Adams isn't what we need. Yes, his work rate and effort are decent enough but he is a striker, first and foremost. Forget this 2nd striker malarkey. A striker is a striker and their job is to score goals and Adams goal tally isn't good enough. Look at the teams from 14th place up. Would any of them buy Adams if he was on offer? No, they wouldn't.

With Turkey being put on Boris's red travel list today, will UEFA allow the Champions League Final to move from Istanbul to another venue? As it is an all English final it would make sense for players and staff not to have to travel to a country in lockdown, surely. Wembley or another of the larger football stadiums could be used and they could have some supporters in as well. Will UEFA use their common sense?

Something needs doing to improve both VAR and the referees. A rescinded red card makes me angry. VAR should make sure that any red cards shown by the referee is the correct decision. Who knows what the final score might have been had Vestegaard not been sent off. Let's hear the conversation going on like they do with rugby.
-
I wonder if Mike Dean is biased towards certain clubs. He shouldn't be if he is a ref but sometimes his decisions smack as favouritism. He gets some form of warped pleasure whipping out his yellow and red cards. The FA need to use the summer break to completely overhaul how VAR is being use and to educate the referees.

Apologies for jumping to conclusions. I am not sure whether there was a previous vote. If there was I didn't see it.

Has nothing to do with his footballing ability and his views on Brexit are his personal opinion and he is entitled to that. If we start discounting all footballers who have done or said something even slightly iffy off the pitch there won't be too many left.

Best have a look at Shearer's playing career.

I thought we were in for a bad night when I saw Stephens on the pitch and Vestegaard getting sent off it, all thanks to a ref not using VAR in the way it is intended and Vardy making a meal of the tackle. It was nice to see us improve and become more determined as the game went on, instead of the other way round. A well earned and well deserved point. I have never been keen on Karen Carney as a TV pundit either. She is at her best with the sound turned down.

Hopefully that Covidiot Maddison won't be fit to play.
-
Please not Christian Benteke. He couldn't score in a brothel.

Here they come. Tails between their legs with mealy mouthed, half-arsed apologies which they don't really mean. I hope the FA or UEFA take some robust action against these greedy owners so this can't happen again. The game of football may need a revamp here and there but not like this and not by money grabbing owners. They will have to find some other way of getting their astronomical debts sorted. Perhaps refusing to pay players eye-watering salaries on long contracts may be a start.

Very good post. My Dad was football mad and I can still see him ranting away at Jonny Haynes who was the 1st £100 a week footballer. If he was around now.........

I wonder if that is Chelsea and Man City? I have just been reading an article that they were reluctant to join. It also said Tuchel would never be keen for an ESL either.

Spurs have sacked Jose this morning. He hasn't done a brilliant job but I thought they might have given him until the end of the season. Wonder if he fancies St. Mary's?🙄

The word 'tired' in relation to footballers gets my goat. Yes, it has been a full-on season played in empty stadiums but when you have the chance to get to Wembley to play in a Cup Final, 'tiredness' shouldn't come into it. These are healthy young men, fully trained and able to play 90+ minutes of football. They receive a very nice pay packet, thanks very much, for doing that. Where was the pride of wearing a Saints shirt, the determination to give 100%, the dream of getting to Wembley and the fire in their bellies? Cup Finals don't come around too often for Southampton. To hardly turn up for such an important game cannot be excused for any reason and certainly not by tiredness! -
Makes me laugh that Spurs, Arsenal and Man Utd who think they are good enough for a Super League aren't even good enough for this season's Champions League. Good riddance to them. However, if it falls flat on its face, tough. No coming back.

My heart says Saints, obviously but my head is not in agreement. If Brendan Rogers watched us against West Brom he is probably getting measured for his Cup Final suit. Still, it is the Cup, so who knows. I would be ecstatic with a win especially to wipe that smile of Vardy's smug face. COYS!!! -
Saints fell off a cliff after that game. That was Ralph's peak.
-
Managers styles are different. Some will want to watch from the stands. Others like Antonio Conte spend the match having convulsions on the touchline. The Van Gael style of management is to sit through the game writing in a notepad. They all do it their way. I used to like watching Barry Fry. He put everything he had into 90 minutes.

All credit to West Brom. They have been stuck in 19th place for most of the season and despite their wins against Chelsea and us, they are still 19th in mid-April. It is still mathematically probable for them to escape relegation but it is a big ask, especially as Newcastle have the likes of Saint-Maximin back in their team. Some teams would have given up by now and accepted the inevitable but not West Brom, it seems. They were better all over the pitch and played with a sense of purpose that Saints did not possess. Ralph will get the blame from some but just look at the squad he has. His 1st team choice is limited in footballing ability and he can't look to the bench to see much in the way of quality there, either. Ings is eyeing the exit and if Ralph doesn't get the green light to offload some of the players and have some money to buy new to strengthen the team, then he may well walk too. It is our salvation that we had a purple patch at the end of 2020 because the points won then are keeping us away from the trapdoor to the Championship.

After the international break, it doesn't take Mike Dean long to get back in his stride. Brighton should have been awarded a penalty in their match against Man U but the great Mike Dean just ignores that. The bloke's a joke.

Chillingly similar to the young white girls who were abused by Asian grooming gangs and not believed by police or social workers for many years. Their inaction, like the jury in the football trial, handed their abusers a free ticket to keep on doing it.

If you go missing then.............................🙄

Here we go. There would have been moans and groans had a white applicant got the job and there's still moans and groans now an 'ethnic minority' candidate has been appointed. Whatever happens, someone has to pick it all apart and look for the racist element so they can get on their soap box and start preaching. I am getting sick and tired of it. Surely if he is the best candidate for the job, that's what matters. Good luck to the bloke.

Their star scorer Pen must have been injured as well. How they are 2nd in the League is a mystery to me.
