Since when did any of our recent boards have a plan?! If they have done, I've not been able to spot it!

Did anyone else there today see McG's first half tantrum? It came after he shot rather than crossed and there were chants about him being a greedy b*st*rd (I think it came from the Barnsley end but I'm not sure!). First he booted the ball away, then he dribbled towards our own goal (admittedly pursued by 2 Barnsley players but with more purpose than he did toward their goal all game) and then he stood on the halfway line, refusing to join in with our next attack. After the game, Jan mentioned on Radio Hants that one or two of his players are "a bit sweet on themselves" and they needed to lose this if we were to progress - I would presume this was aimed at McG's behaviour today. He does seem to have this air of arrogance but, seemingly, without the substance to back it up, on today's showing anyway.

It's not looking good is it? I thought the idea was to use young, less injury prone players this season, instead of the usual old crocks, but it seems that, to be a first XI Saints player, you need to know how to get injured above everything else!! Given this new (depressing) news, I'd go for: Davis Hatch, Cork, Perry, Surman Wotton, Gillett McG, Lallana, BWP Pekhart. Subs: Bart, Mills, Thomson, Dyer & John

Who here does not really give a monkeys
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
You ask any of those clubs doing ok in the Premier League, without a home grown player in the squad, and they couldn't give a monkeys. I've got to say that I'm the same. Don't get me wrong, it's great when we do have players who come through the ranks but it's not the be all and end all for me. Equally, the style isn't that important either. Although I can't say that I'd want us to be playing as Stoke do or Watford did but I would at least accept the modicum of success they've had in doing it. Winning is everything! -
Agreed but he's just had 2 weeks without a game. Might have been better to play him today and against Ipswich and then rest him against Barnsley. Or are we starting to choose our must-win games already???

Bad challenge and, whilst I've seen many an other get away with worse, it was a red. Not a good day for Mr Lancashire; a definite contender for the "Alan Bennett worst debut" award when you also consider the poor defending for the opener. Hopefully he'll learn from it, though, and come back from it stronger, as Bennett did.

Just had my pre-match team news text message and it said the above two might be in for tomorrow? Is this true or usual pre-match text BS?

For me 3 classic moments: the triple save against Arsenal, the shot against the bar against Fulham and the shoving match with Prutton against whoever it was. Fantastic keeper, great personality - shame his career was ended by injury and not on the high it deserved (i.e. coming back here and getting us promoted!!!).

Prêter is the verb to lend or loan, yes.
-
Marcelo Tejera, Federico Arias, Kleber Chala - all came from South America, supposedly as talented players, but I doubt they managed 90 minutes between them. I bet they weren't here on pay as you play deals either!

Gasmi in Southampton Romain Gasmi has been officially loaned to Southampton for a year with an option to purchase approximately 1.5 million. The player, however, continues his convalescence in Strasbourg until the end of September. Just found this on a French site - doesn't add much new to what's been said above other than he'll be staying in Strasbourg until his injury has healed, which is maybe why we've not made an announcement?
-
The Echo says we may sign something (at the end of the article saying Rudi is likely to be off) depending on who we can shift today. Presumably the deal is done in principle to bring in Gasmi (hence the announcement on Strasbourg's site) and we're just waiting to get rid and free up some wages before we confirm it.

Seems to me Stoke are just buying any players we have going by the name of Davis or Davies. Presumably young Kyle Davies will be next on their hit list...
-
What he said. Welcome to Southampton Anthony, you have renounced your evil Skate ways by joining us - I hope you turn out to be the next Lee Holmes (never thought I'd be writing that so I'm going to be more patient this time around).
-
Great result. I think it's benefiting us to have the games coming thick and fast at the moment as it's helping the youngsters settle into the side. The more they play, the better & more battle-hardened they'll get and they're playing well already...
-
Marvellous result - well done lads. I did worry about us going up to Derby - despite their poor league run - as they have just come down from the Prem but, by all accounts, we've played them off the park. Lovely to hear, will be even more lovely to watch when I can afford to get down to St Mary's to see!

Jan said in the Daily Echo article the other day that he wanted 2 players in: a defender and a striker. Seemingly he's got his defender in Cork and it would make sense if he released BWP in order to bring in a striker. The article in the Plymouth paper says BWP would be on loan which I wouldn't have a problem with. It's not big funds up front but I still think he could do a job for us and maybe a loan move and regular footy at Argyle would bring him along a bit or decide, once and for all, if he's not up to this standard of footy.
-
Great news. Good signing in he wake of Davies' departure. Interesting that the Mail carried the story (as per the other Cork thread) - aren't they Rupert's chosen mouthpiece?
-
Please let this be true. Cork is an excellent prospect according to a couple of Chelsea supporting mates. Surely he'd prefer the sunny South to gloomy Sheffield?!

Ian Harte training at Southampton.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache replied to saintwarwick's topic in The Saints
Plus he was also only going to be back-up to Elokobi. He may see a chance to be first choice at SMS, especially if Surman goes. -
Not pleased at all. As many have said, the rumoured £1.3million fee is too low (unless of course it was a contractual stipulation) but the thing that really annoys me is that he's had all that medical treatment during the summer, to injuries relating to an injury he sustained at Boro, which Saints have obviously paid for. Now he's approaching fitness, he's b*ggered off to Stoke!

Saints Accept £1.3m for Andrew Davies
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache replied to Nexstar's topic in The Saints
Just checked the OS and it says that Shilton has signed but Keegan has been sold. Boy am I f**ked off... -
Saints Accept £1.3m for Andrew Davies
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache replied to Nexstar's topic in The Saints
Apparently they offered £1.5million with Pulis or £1.3million without. Thankfully it would appear we chose the £1.3million without!!! -
Interestingly, today's Daily Mail mentioned at the end of our match report that Dyer and BWP had been left out after a behind the scenes bust up. Surely, if true, they'd be trying to keep their heads down rather than causing any more trouble?
