Poortvliet in plea to Saints fans
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache replied to qwertySFC's topic in The Saints
I can understand Jan's call to get behind the team but I don't think he's looking at the bigger picture. In the current climate, when money amongst fans is tight, to justify spending £24 a game watching (what is mainly) last year's reserve/youth team (who, last year, you could see for free) is difficult. Don't get me wrong, I love my team and, ordinarily, it really wouldn't bother me that, if and when I can eke out the funds to watch games, I have to watch less established players. But there has to be a product worth watching and what I have seen this year has been poor, with the antics (and apparent lack of application) of players like DMG leaving me feeling that I'm wasting my time and valuable money (which it breaks my heart to say). -

Absolutely right. I thought we were counting the pennies not funding players, not required by other teams, for nowt! -

Another dreadful result - how much more must we stomach?! The Dutch clowns need to go as does the great experimenter Lowe. Surely there's never been a chairman so willing to experiment and to fail so often. The most damning indictment I can give is that if we keep sides down to 3 at the moment, I'm relatively content given the poor management, poor leadership and the paucity of players able to play at this level. League 1 awaits and I wouldn't bet on us surviving there either. -
Oh Crouchie, Crouchie, he used to be a Skate but he's alright now. Can't think why we ditched this one?!
-
Come on everyone: there were 5 goals in the Coventry game and 3 more today - we're the entertainers, come watch us!!! Send in the clowns, you say...?
-
If this is true (& I'm not doubting you WS, it's just that players have been known to say the 'right' thing to maintain their own popularity), then I find it ludicrous that we are preventing an international player, willing to fight for his place at a non-top-flight club, from playing, just out of spite. If we're paying his wages, and he wants to play, and the manager considers him the best option in whatever position, in whatever system he wants to play, then he should not be precluded from playing him. If nothing else, if Rudi does well and we still need cash come January, surely his value would've increased?! This has got nothing more than to do with an ego trip, plain and simple, that Lowe's beloved academy can be this club's saviour. What he's overlooking is that the reason most clubs don't blood the majority of their academy in their first XI is not shortsightedness but the simple fact that most clubs realise that most kids won't cut the mustard at whatever level they are at. Very rarely do you get a bumper crop who all come together at once to make it (Man U's Scholes, Giggs, Beckham & the Nevilles etc spring to mind as do the Wallaces, MLT & Shearer for us) and most clubs realise they are likely to produce only one or two top quality youngsters to supplement well thought out signings. Let's be honest, as well as our kids have done at youth level, they've hardly wiped the floor with all and sundry to the extent that you could say they could do so at full league level. I'm all for trying new things to improve our position but this could be seen as a disaster from the outset. I despair at all this, I really do.

I really don't get it. We need to make cut-backs yet we sign loan players at will. The cut-backs I can understand if we are at the behest of the banks. However, call me naiive but it wouldn't it be better to have sold a few of the more talented youngsters - yes Surman and Lallana if need be - and then tried to put together a squad of 20 or so Championship standard players plus a couple of youngsters to supplement them? Surely this would result in a lower wage bill than having a squad of 40 kids and given us a better chance of competing???
-
The difference is Leicester employed a manager with the nous to get them out of League 1. Should we keep JP and slide into League 1, I just can't bear to think what will happen if we try to play total football with a bunch of kids against real cloggers.

We're a joke club, run by a joke board, putting in joke performances at the mo. Missing 2 penalties is pathetic, as was the defending by all accounts.

It,s no longer fun supporting saints
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache replied to Snowballs2's topic in The Saints
Stayed at home and played with my kids. Far more fun than watching Rupert's perverse experiment (no. 20564) with our club. -
Fantastic! I really believe we will be taken over tomorrow. I also believe the story about the aliens too. Apparently we are going to initiate a revolutionary new link-up with the aliens in the hope they can get us back to the Premier League on the cheap.

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/3752627.Poortvliet_targets_six_wins_from_next_ten_games/ Anyone really believe we can do this? Don't get me wrong, I'd love us to win at least 6 of the next 10 but our inconsistent start doesn't give me much hope that we will!
-
The question is: would the re-initiation of our revolutionary approach a la SCW work in tandem with the revolutionary Dutch total football philosophy we currently find ourselves implementing? Does joining 2 revolutionary concepts together give us twice the revolutionary impact or would they cancel each other out?

Why no first teamers in reserves game this afternoon?
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
They're not allowed the time off school. -
Good luck to the fella; all the reports seem to point towards a talented player who hasn't yet made his mark somewhere. Let's hope it happens for him here!
-
Anyone got any further news on the life of Brian?

Another excellent result. Hopefully this will build some confidence and we can string a consistent run of results. Well done Jan and the lads (particularly the new fella, Robertson!).

Saints 1-0 Norwich - First half and half-time
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache replied to a topic in The Saints
So far, Jordan Robertson is proving to be the finest no. 38 we've ever had! -
Just off to William Hills now. Gotta be worth a punt!
-
Interesting line up! Just hope it works.
-
Does he have a broken metatarsal? I thought that was what we looked for in players?
-
Paul Williams helped steady our defence in Strach's first season, filling the void Dean Richards left, until being displaced by a certain Swedish centre half.
-
Kevin Richardson was a calming influence when he first arrived and quietly got on with things whilst Palmer, Davies, Hirst, Le Tiss & Egil got the plaudits in Dave Jones' first season with us.
-
A complete steal - would be excellent to bring back one of our academy boys. Now, if we can just find the money to bring back Gareth, Theo and Dexter too...

Bumped into Mr Fulthorpe yesterday...

Fax machine is broken and we could only afford to repair it if funds had come in from Rudi joining Ipswich.
