Football Rumours is linking us with ex-Wycombe no 1 Scott Shearer on a year long deal. Would be reasonable back-up IMO.

Spotted this in a piece about recent triallist Harlee Dean on Football Rumours site. If true, suggests no more Bart but would offer reasonable back-up to KD.

Like most, I'm frustrated we've not brought in more, I must say. However, I'm hopeful things might pick up when the lads return from Switzerland, as I'm hoping AP is using the trip as a means to see who (of the fringe players) is going to play a proper part for us this season and where we need to supplement if not. For instance, if Lee Holmes is fit and in decent form, would that mean we'd look to replace only 1 of Papa or Antonio rather than both?

Please Mr Allen - save us from the multi-billionaire who owns our club now...!

I wonder if Lee Holmes is actually going to play a bigger part for us this season than many of us anticipate. I think the lack of replacements for Papa and Antonio could mean AP is going to turn to Holmes as an option instead. Although he's 'only' reasonably quick, rather than having the blistering pace of the other two, I think he's a better crosser of a ball than either Papa or Antonio, which is surely a pre-requisite for a decent winger. I know he's also been linked as a makeweight in any deal to buy Chris Lines from Bristol Rovers but I can't help thinking that might be a bit of a red herring. I'd certainly like to see him given a chance, if he can stay injury free, as I can see him providing some quality service for Rickie, in particular, to feed off.

Interesting that we could go from a position where one area which was not considered a problem suddenly becomes an issue. I think Bart's interview with the Echo lulled us into a false sense of security and now we're in a position where we may have to recruit a reasonable back-up. I wonder if we'll be able to do that whilst offering Forecast as a makeweight...
