Well that settles that.....off to watch my local team Uniao Leira against the mid-table rivals Maritimo. o-o at the moment. As a matter of interest I went and watched them last year and it cost me 7.50 Euros to sit in the soft seats right on the half-way line. Cheaper than watching Eastleigh !!

In case anyone wants to watch it on line............ http://www.firstrowsports.eu/

An old work mate of mine decked someone and kicked him in the head, not on CCTV but in front of a couple of witnesses and I got hold of a brief that all the Shirley lads would know and if I remember correctly he said that kicking someone in the head when they're on the deck carries an automatic custodial of up to 5 years (exceptional circumstances exempt I guess). Brief did a good job but my mate still got the same 8 weeks as Etuhu. The similarity in both Barny and Etuhu cases are that they are both pro footballers, the charges might be the same and even eventually the verdicts but hopefully sentencing guild-lines won't be as severe.

I agree with the OP. Prior to the 73/74 only 2 teams were relegated and when the FA decide on the 3 up/3 down who should finish third bottom? you guessed it. Then prior to the 83/84 season, FA cup semi finals went straight to a replay after 90 mins. The first season extra time was introduced we met Everton at Highbury, We played well below our form and ability. LMac took a gamble on the injured Steve Williams and it backfired but we held on to a 0-0 draw knowing that we would do them in the replay as we couldn't play that bad again. Then in the 120th minute that little sh1t Adrian Heath scored the only goal. The sense of injustice and the antics of the Everton fans before the game set in motion the battle that took place on the pitch. I also think all English clubs were banned from Europe when we had our highest ever Div 1 finish in 2nd. Although this effected many clubs in the 6 or so season that the ban was in place.

Unfortunately Weston I am old enough to remember the 2-3-5 as my late father was an inside-right of some repute in local football and claimed to have got to a thousand goals before Pele. He also played locally with a certain John Sydenham and was the only player who could keep up with JS's lightening speed. On JS's recommendation Saints gave my dad a trial but nothing came of it as, according to my Dad they played him in the youth team and stuck him outside-right and no one passed to him. When I started playing Tyro league in 1970 we were playing 4-4-2. This must be around the time I remember watching Jimmy Gabrial play. Surely Saints would have been playing 4-4-2 in the early 70's? Perhaps JG was converted to a right back in a flat back 4 when the 2-3-5 was abandoned? I just can't remember seeing Saints play 2-3-5 and I remember watching JG play. I guess quite famously Sir Alf did away with wingers (re-Terry Paine) in the world cup in '66 but when did Saints convert to the 4-4-2 system? It must have been under Ted Bates and where did Saints play Terry Paine in this new formation?

Right back wasn't he?

Mid-week, under lights. I was in the East stand I think and I remember the ball coming straight back to Matty who blasted it over the bar but the goal he scored after the miss is right up there with his best.

I remember 'way back when' in the LMac era, 1980ish we had a pre-season friendly against Bompey and it was reported that we were going to play a 'mystery trialist/signing'. Now Lawrie had brought so many quality players to our ranks we were all filed with great anticipation. As if we all needed any more encouragement to make the mid-week, pay on the gate journey 30 miles west. The expectancy rose when the A4 team sheet didn't reveal our right-wingers name either and we were finally put out of our misery when the stadia announcer revealed that 'Andy Rogers' (I think his name was) was the big secret. Needless to say I guess but he was rubbish yet we signed him anyway and I think he never started a game again before we sold him to PA. The game itself was so bad that from half time onwards 'The lads' were asking the stewards to let us all out. Half way through the second half all the gates were opened and our lot marched straight up to the home end and 'took' it without a punch being thrown.

Hi all. I've just read (with the help of my 12y.o. daughter) in the Portuguese National Daily Football paper ''Bola' that we have placed an offer for the Olhanense right winger 26 y.o. Paulo Sergio. He's out of contract at the end of the season but I believe he's not happy with the money we're offering and is considering seeing out his contract but has till Monday to make up his mind. A.O.C. situation springs to mind.....a last minute back up in case someone meets our terms perhaps? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulo_S%C3%A9rgio_Moreira_Gon%C3%A7alves

After supporting Saints for 40 odd years and having had my first experience of Krap Notarf way back in '76 when Micky Channon scored in the 89 min my early feelings were nothing but hatred for the blue few but having worked along side many Skates over the years I enjoyed the mutual banter that I've given and taken and have even developed friendships with some but after the sh*t me and my mates have had to endure on sites over the last 5 years and with them wanting us to fold when we were in the same position a couple of years ago I'm in the 'Fack 'em and good riddance' camp. My only regret is that they will still harp on about the two 4-1's and we'll not get the chance to avenge these results but I guess I can live with that and and there's always Eastleigh to avenge and embarrass them.

Way, way back when I was a lad there was a thought of producing Rod's drawings on small metal cards. A sample was manufactured I believe, I don't know for what reason but I remember being told that it wasn't going ahead. One of my Aunties knew Ron I think and came upon some of these metal cards and passed them on to me as a young Saints fan. I'm pretty sure that these metal cards were of the 1970 Saints and Arsenal team's (who were of course the double winners that perhaps that's why they were also produced). Has anyone heard of these or perhaps own some as well? I'll try and find them in the loft and post some pics of them on here when I get five mins if anyone is interested.

Would advise deleteing cookies and temp files as instructed on log in page under 'having trouble logging in' as this got me sorted.

I remember Steve Hurst's axle snapping in the pub carpark and him having to leave it there overnight on the way back from somewhere. It's right on a roundabout isn't it? Also do you remember how Foley's coaches use to drop us off in Banbury town center to neck a few beers in a half hour ****** stop on the way up north?

The Valley Slags.... A certain RC on vocals and Perry from The Flying Alexanders on lead. I remember the video was of the band playing on the roof of one of the Weston Shore huts, a cheeper version of Beatles/U2 playing on the roof in NY and London. I've got the CD here somewhere should you require any more info.

There were quite a few Saints who stood their ground that day as I remember. My late father was a steward who usual patch was in 'blood alley' which as our older readers will remember was the alley at the back of the Archers, behind the away section. That day he was in the Milton, when we meet up back at home later that evening, he told me of this one Saints fan in particular who took on and 'did' three Mancs before just knocking out any 'Manc' who came at him. His mate, the Head Steward, Pete Chase told my Dad and a couple of others to get hold of him, which they were just about to do when my Dad recognised him as a plain clothed copper who was having a field day, so they just left him to it and concentrated their efforts elsewhere. As everyone knows we had upset them in the same competition the previous season and they weren't very happy about that, hence the trouble before and after the game.

I have it on good authority the Malcome has joined Huw at Fulham.

Mine too. I spoke to Franny in a nightclub a few weeks later and complimented him on that 'tackle' and asked him about it. He told me that after he was dismissed he was sat alone in the dressing room feeling gutted that he had let his teammates down and all he could hear was the Saints fans singing his name (for the first time), real mixed emotions, for although he is now regarded as a legend, up untill this tackle he used to get a lot of shti from a large number of our supporters, not for his efforts but for his shocking distribution.

R.I.P. Andy, a real shock if this is the guy that I think it is. I remember a story of him (if it's him) around the time of the 'Frankie Says' T-shirts, early 80's I guess. He somehow was at Ellend Rd in the Leeds section V P****y. He was wearing a forementioned 'Frankie Says' with his own message, 'F**k Off P****y' on the back and the Leeds fans were lifting him above their heads and when the Skates noticed him they would turn him round and show them Andy's message. The Leeds fans loved him, the Skates hated him, job done. A funny guy sadly taken far too early. The world will be a sader place without him. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Many thanks Tony and team on all your efforts. Here's looking forward to a brighter future.

Best goal seen live FOR saints at SMS/The Dell
Clash City Saint replied to Nexstar's topic in The Saints
Kevin Keegan verses Manure at the Dell, Milton Road end. Overhead kick from the corner of the 18yd box into the top far corner of the net. Disallowed because Dave Armstrong was stood offside (old rules). At least 'Spike' made amends later when he headed our third in a 3-2 win. I'm sure I've heard KK state that this was the best goal he ever scored and it was disallowed. On a side note anyone remember a goal that Raul scored for Real Madrid when he lobbed the on-rushing 'keeper yards outside the box and as the ball dropped, instead of controlling it and passing it into an empty net Raul scored with an overhead kick....some goal.
