As someone mentioned above, the Citeh game where Schmeichel pulled off some amazing stops really sticks in the memory, was a privelage to witness one of the finest goalkeepers the world has ever seen still making saves like that in the latter years of his career. Bergkamp's goal to open the scoring for Arsenal before we went on to beat them 3-2 in 2002 was a great finish, again it was a privelage to see a true great do something that amazes you (even better that we went on to win in such dramatic fashion!)

Couldn't support another English team, that's for sure. How could anyone adopt a new team to cheer on when one day in the past you may have been taunting their fans from the Northam? I'd look abroad, take in a different footballing culture on the continent. Some mates and I drove to a Schalke match last season, was one of the best footballing experiences I've had, as was seeing Porto vs Benfica the season before.

Admittedly, he was below-par last season, along with a lot of other players. I can see him proving people wrong and being a success in the Prem. I'll remember him for the final game of the 07/08 season against Sheff Utd when he played out of his skin and ended up getting mobbed in the pitch invasion after.

Couldn't agree more, MLT's status is unaffected in my eyes. He did what he though was in the best interests of the club, he was just let down by a bunch of fantasists who couldn't handle the heat in the kitchen when it came to crunch time.

You do indeed, plenty with plates on from places like Bahrain too, it's quite common. In all probability they were picked up from the airport by UK based Swiss associates. I doubt they drove over, would take a couple of days, wouldn't be very efficient, they'd have flown if they mean business.
-
If the Swiss or, god forbid, Marc Jackson manage to sneak a deal, Pinnacle only have themselves to blame. I hope they prove me wrong, complete the deal and go on to be hugely successful, but they've been guilty of some big errors of judgement already and they're not even in the hotseat yet!

Nope, wasn't actually a very good manager, wasted a lot of money, hasn't worked for a while now. We should give him a wide berth if he starts hawking his services around.

Also linked with Porto, WTF? I know the Portuguese league is sub-standard, but he'd still end up playing Champions League football and that'd just be wrong....

I haven't bothered with membership since we got relegated from the Prem, haven't really needed it. I suggest if anyone is looking at going to games sporadically that they book tickets over the phone, as then any transactions will be logged, rather than doing a walkup and paying with cash. May be useful to have the games you've attended on record incase we get to a playoff final and they use such a method to distribute tickets left after STH have taken theirs.

I've heard rumours of a Gray - Wigley dream duo. Apparently they will work for a combined salary even less than that of Poortvliet.

I agree, the odds were stacked against him. I think the main gripe people had is not being able to motivate the players to achieve similar results at home compared the wins we got against Derby, Preston and Reading away. But that said, the players still showed the same lack of cutting edge under Wotte, they need to shoulder the blame too. Nice fella, wish him well in his new job.

Why won't the new owner reveal themselves?

Liverpool will be fine, apparently Hicks and Gillet have enough assets in the US to sell off and will be able to stabilise themselves. Worst comes to worst, Liverpool may have to sell off a couple of crown jewels, but they will still exist. For a real horror story, read up on the current state of Valencia and how they got there. A truly shocking example of how a football club shouldn't be ran!

You make some good points, but I still stand by my views. My point was that these things always seem to make the news when it's a "minority" being offended. How many Brits living in Australia do you think go to the authorities claiming a racial incident for being called a "Pom"? Yes, it's not as venemous as JVD's alleged words, but a slur nonetheless. It's kind of hard to sum up, because whilst I'm not trying to absolve JVD (what he said is out of order), I'm also of the feeling that the race card is whipped out all too quickly sometimes. There is a difference between a racist comment and a racist person, I'm of the opinion that whilst it isn't the wisest thing to do, you can make a racist comment without being a racist person. Ron Atkinson for example, a horrifically racist comment, but I don't feel he is a racist person, he was just from a different time. Anywho, for fear of turning this into a political forum, that's my last on the matter!

Players can fall from grace like Saints too
oxfordshire_saint replied to matthieu's topic in The Saints
They had Zico as a manager for a while too, but then he legged it to CSKA Moscow when they laid more cash on the table. To be fair to Rivaldo, his isn't really a fall from grace, he's too old to play anywhere else these days. He's won world cups and played for Barca in his peak, just watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2ujBOUQIxw and see him get Barca into the Champs League on the last day of the season with a stunning hattrick. -
If a player playing against United called Paul Scholes a "ginger ***t", would the same fuss kick off? Yet both could be deemed an insult made against a player's appearance. Racism is wrong, but it seems to be deemed more serious in certain areas than others. If you chant "you fat b@stard" at a keeper as he takes a kick, it's an insult based on appearance. If you chant "sheep ****gers" at a Welsh team, it's an insult based on where they are from, yet these sort of things don't even register. If every insult based on how someone looks was brought to book, we'd live in an even crazier world than we already do. It's time people became a little more thick-skinned to stuff said off the cuff, in the heat of battle or in jest. I'm sure JVD plays in the same team as black players who he gets on perfectly well with. It's the same with the Sol Campbell stuff. So you can get slung in the dock if you call him gay, but if you had called him fat everyone would have laughed? I'm sure plenty of players called Luke Chadwick ugly when playing against him, did he ever get all uppity about it?

I can appreciate both sides of the argument on here, but let's face it, David McGoldrick is an enigma. Whilst celebrating a goal, he'll have you believe that he would do anything for the club. For the other 89 minutes that he spends waddling around (after all, he seems to have a bit of an odd body shape for a footballer?) he just looks lazy and dis-interested. To sum it up, he's a luxury player. He'll play most of the game on cruise control, but it likely to pop up with a goal. Depending on the makeup of our team next season, we can't really afford someone like that in League One. If you take into consideration the fact that he wants to go back to his hometown, a £1m offer should be a no-brainer for the club.

As far as food and drink goes, I can't look past my German football experiences. A cold pint of pils and a bratwurst are perfect for football.

However much it costs to sign a big, ugly, physical, nasty bastard of a centre-forward. A centre-back with similar qualities will be equally useful. We need an even mix of good footballers and those who just bully teams.

Train permanently at St Mary's??? How many other clubs train permanently at their stadium? I'm going for a guess at 0. Even Blue Square clubs don't do that.
