Swindon 1 v Saints 0 Post-Match Reaction

Just got home after sitting through that 90 mins of utter toss. A lot of things should have hit home to Pardew tonight that he should have already known: - for all his shouting and arm-waving, Paul Wotton is a totally woeful footballer. The rare times we tried to play through the midfield rather than hoofing it, the moves just died when the ball reached Wotton because he was either too slow, his first touch too poor or if he did manage to trap it he would then lose it, whether he was trying for a simple 5 yard pass or long ball. Churchill was a good leader, but I wouldn't have wanted him in a football team. - If you haven't troubled a keeper after 80 minutes, perhaps a substitution earlier may have been a better choice? If 3,000 travelling supporters can see it, why can't the man who's being paid handsomely to make the tactical decisions? - Lancashire will never make it at this level. He's a semi-competent ball winner at the back, but so are a lot of people playing Sunday football. His distribution, like Wottons, is a disgrace for someone who calls themself a professional footballer. - if teams decide to chase and hustle us, we lose all of our composure. We clearly need to work on ball retention under pressure, rather than just panicking and lumping it. - Rickie Lambert will not score goals if we play him as a lone striker and without wingers! The poor fella had no support and no service. - our midfield was all over the place. Hopefully the signing of Hammond will go some way to sorting it. Lallana put the effort in but didn't seem to have a defined position, nor Melis. Was Paterson meant to be a right winger or striker? He seemed as confused as us. We need some serious work on the training ground and some serious re-inforcements, otherwise it'll be a long season. I thought Pardew was a good apointment, but he lost a lot of faith with his complete lack of tactical nous tonight. -
It's all good and well having the money to spend, but I think the crux of the matter is actually convincing decent players to drop down to League One for what, in all reality, will be at least a 2 season spell in this division.

Other good non-leaguers: Martin Rowlands originally came from Farnborough Town, now at QPR via Brentford Jermaine Beckford, I think he came from Wealdstone (incidently I think this is where Stuart Pearce started out) Les Ferdinand knocked around at non-league level for a while before he made it pro Maik Taylor, another ex-Farnborough Town player DJ Campbell, even if some may argue he should be back at that level! Nicky Bailey, looked useful for Charlton last season in an awful side

Woodward out!
-
Let Rickie have em. The last time we had a big, strapping, confident striker who was born in the North-West, I seem to remember him being pretty decent at pens ;-)

They should both have a plate of Amshhhterdam brownies and chill out

I've just got back from a week spent driving predominantly around the Black Forest, Austria and Switzerland and I saw the Liebherr brand everywhere, from cranes to diggers to depots. I even filled up at an Agip petrol station on the Hans Liebherr Straße just outside Lindenberg im Allgäu, it was opposite a massive Liebherr depot. Is this the late Hans Liebherr's home town by any chance?

Unwanted at his current club... HCDAJFS!

We'd struggle to attract an out-of-favour player from Juve's youth team! -
I don't think it'd ever fetch more than £250 if you bought it and tried to re-sell it
-
Consolidation is probably the true aim, no matter what noises AP makes. Hopefully we can get the deadwood out and some useful players in by the end of the transfer window, unless things speed up rapidly it won't happen before Millwall. I still think we're a lot better than the worst this division has to offer, but at the same time we seem to be way behind the likes of Norwich when it comes to having a decent squad.

Christ, just seen the goals from the QPR game on SSN and we were shocking at the back. The lack of muscle can be blamed for the first goal, but the second and third were just awful defending with poor positioning and nobody willing to make a tackle. I know we lack physical players, but tackling is a basic for a defender of any size. We need people to start putting their foot in.

I don't normally comment but we are still a selling club!!!!

Although I agree we need to bring players in, signings shouldn't be done to "appease the fans", they should be done to improve the team. -
Pardew thinks we're somewhere halfway between the Hearts and the QPR result, 0-0 against Millwall then?
-
rubbish at the back and nowt going forward, it's gonna be a long season!
-
and Leeds beating Burnley.........
-
0, I've heard David Villa can't get a flight until Wednesday
-
Norwich are buying well, I reckon they'll win it. Second is anyone's guess!
-
To be honest I don't care. I'd rather gloat if our own house was in order, as it stands we have a threadbare squad full of kids with only a week to go till it all kicks off!

A true legend of the game, not just in this country but worldwide. When I went to a Porto game the other year, upon hearing I was English, the first thing any Porto fan mentioned was Sir Bobby. I remember an interview with Shola Ameobi a few years ago, when asked if Bobby had a nickname for him, he replied, "yeah, Carl Cort", such was his infamous ability to forget his player's names!

If we didn't sign anyone else and Rasiak an Saganowski left, I would wonder how long it would take to see Wayne Thomas re-invented as a targetman to play alongside Matt Paterson
-
Who was sitting next to Pardew at Farnborough game?
oxfordshire_saint replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Krishnan Guru-Murthy (Graham "Murthy"s brother?) -
I couldn't support another English club, cheering on someone who I would once have been wishing us to beat just wouldn't be right. I've made trips abroad to see foreign teams play and would adopt one of them. I've driven Gelsenkirchen and back in the same day to see Schalke play, so could plump for them. Also, I've got Portuguese friends who are all Porto mad and offer to put me up any time I want to hop on a cheap flight to watch them play.

Steve Morison could turn out to be bargain for Millwall at £130k
-
Is was a full-strength side we put out there last year. I can imagine it'd be a mixture, much like the Salisbury game.
