Definitely better than 2003 team. For those who never witnessed it, I truly hope Nicola's vision reaches the same heights as we had then. This was a team of proper internationals, such was the pulling power of Lawrie. Precisely why he is still held in such high esteem by those of us who remember. Legends the lot of them ?
-
Certainly sure Peter Wells never wore gloves.
-
What a team that was. Yes we had Keagan, but the rest were all stars as well. My first football hero, Peter Wells. Never forget him breaking a finger. No gloves in those days. Ivan Golac, legend. Chris Nichol, saints legend. My other hero Micky Channon. Will we ever have so many stars in the future. I really hope so! COYR!!!!!

Yet another player Liverpool tried to sign for £7 million back in summer!
-
Possible would have said the same about Morgan when he first signed. Now is a different thing. Gaston has disappointed some, but we mustn't loose sight of the fact, he is 22, in a team growing in confidence who endured a horrendous start to life in the premier league. The transfer fee is big by our standards (not by others) but is hopefully a long term investment which fits with the age thing the club is trying to put together. If he is still with us in 5 years time, that's perhaps the time to review his stats. Just an opinion.

Theo Walcott as an unused sub in world cup. Was still a saints player, prior to joining Arsenal -

You are right Turkish. The football at the time was dire. If he had stayed we would have been relegated!

A bunch of immature Tw*ts, thats what they were. The muppet who used the 1980's and Barry horne as an excuse is a fool as well. I was watching Saints before this, so his arguement does not have any credibility for his actions as well. Just so stupid. Fact 1: We scored potentially the winning goal, four mins had already been shown on the board. Fact 2: Because of a bunch of mongs, including the idiot who was holding the corner flag, this four minutes increased and guess what- yes Pompey got the equaliser. Does not take too much intelligence to work out the effect those idiots had on the result today. I hope for all of your sakes, those who did this, and also the inbreds who defend them that we dont look back at this two points dropped with regret as it had cost us automatic promotion, because with how tight things are, thats a very real possibility now. Well done!!!!!!

Like I said, that would be my choice. Anything is possible in football. Who really thought Pardew would be sacked today after the side winning 4-0 away on Saturday. As one of the previous posters just said, Pardew was a premiership manager before saints and he dropped down. You would expect Cortese to do the same again, so that would rule out no-one!
-
As for ridiculous, why is it? All I said was that it would be my choice? Back in the early 80's we once signed a player by the name of Kevin Keagan who was the European footballer of the year. Now how ridiculous was that? It still happened though proving anything is possible especially with Saints financial clout now. Easy to be sarcastic behind a computer screen isnt it?

Martin O'Neil. That would be my choice

" Furthermore clarify throughout our discussions no conditions other than a waiver in regard to sporting sanctions have ever been raised with us as a major issue." The above paragraph refers specifically to Saints

I am not personally insinuating that Mawhinney is anything. Yes the email is genuine, all i have done is share it with this forum. Any of you who want a copy PM me your email addresses and i will copy it too you. At the end of the day any of you can come to your own conclusion about what it does or does not mean but for once it is a conclusive response from the league (and lets face it they did not have to reply) rather than some of the recent comments from frustrated fans on this forum who they claim are ITK or are whizz kids in the business world and think everything is black and white. As I said above all I have done is share it with you. Make of that what you will.

Thought id just share with you all a email I recieved today from the Football league in response to my message to the Lord at the House of Lords. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Dear XXXXXXX The Chairman, Lord Mawhinney, has asked me to respond to your communication send to him at the House of Lords. It may be helpful to clarify that the sporting sanction, i.e. points deduction has been made in accordance with League regulations, which are put in place by the clubs themselves – The League then administers them. An appeal is allowed with a specified period. When a club suffers an insolvency event, e.g. administration, their share in The League is liable to be withdrawn under the terms of our Articles of Association. In other words their membership comes to an end. However, because we are in the business of trying to keep clubs alive, the Board operates a policy within the provisions of the Articles which suspends the withdrawal of a club’s share in order to give them a second chance – this is entirely in keeping with the law of the land. Recent arbitration proceedings confirm The Football League has the right to impose conditions on a company that seeks to join The League in this way. These conditions reflect the need to protect the integrity of the competition by ensuring that no club should be able to gain an advantage over its rivals by not paying its debts. Owners of football clubs will change over time, but the ‘club’ remains the same. It is the club which secures a competitive advantage from wiping out debt through insolvency proceedings, and therefore, it is only right that it is the club, regardless as to the identity of the new owners, that is made subject to any conditions. The League has a responsibility to ensure all League clubs start the season. Furthermore clarify throughout our discussions no conditions other than a waiver in regard to sporting sanctions have ever been raised with us as a major issue. We hope this clarification is helpful. Patricia Brown Customer Service The Football League http://www.football-league.co.uk xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx This does clarify that the only issue discussed was the points (Sporting sanctions) deductions and therefore this was the only issue with the league.
-
In truth (albeit in my humble opinion), no clubs deserve these types of deductions. Even Leeds. As has been mentioned i am sure a million times in the past, it is not the fans fault. In some cases where owners/directors have used administration as a means of getting rid of debts so they can continue to operate under a new name, this is the only case for a posible deduction because this would indeed be a way of punishing the owners. The league say themselves 'to protect the integrity of the game' they use this route to punish old regimes, but there is another angle to this. Saints old regime have gone. We have fresh people coming in so why should they be punished. Rupert and the gang have got away with this totally. Yet this punishment still stays with the club and ultimately the new owners. The reality of this lies with the out of touch nobodies who run the Football game itself. Back years ago, a certain Brian Clough had an almighty battle with the football authorities costing him the England job. These suits were out of date back then. Why of why will these people not modernise. Lord Mahwinney likes to sing the praises of the FL when it suits, saying about how attendances are up and what a great product the FL is, but when it suits he forgets us the fans, as if he really cared about us, he would have given greater thought to how a points deduction would affect us. Forget the money, all the Football clubs in this country belong to the fans and without us there would be none of the lavish lifestyles that the suits running the game would have. No fans = NO TV Deals and NO mega buck money. Maybe they should open their eyes and look at the bigger picture

He also has a very large home at Avon Castle, Ringwood, and this is his main home now.

In todays Sun, it says Shearer!!!

1st sensible, adult post on this thread. Wish people would concentrate on getting behind the team, than creating totally unnessary divides amongst our fan base. Grow up, ffs
