Doesn't alter the fact that the British taxpayer is subsidising the wage bill of these big, wealthy companies. How is that right? People can't moan about 'subsidising' people in receipt of in-work benefits but ignore the fact that they're actually lining the pockets of company bosses and shareholders. Dear god - some of you are soulless. This country has a proud tradition of offering help to those escaping persecution, poverty and diseease. Huguenots, Jews, Irish, Ugandan and Kenyan Asians - we helped them out when they needed help. We're all of us descended from races that came to our country for one reason or another. I bet there's not a pure Briton amongst us. I can't imagine the desperation these poor people must feel - to risk a treacherous boat trip or a ride in the undercarriage of an aircraft and I hope to goodness I never do.

What about the 'rest of society' that we benefited from in the past eh? Or are we pulling up the drawbridge again?

As has Ron Moody. Strangely, we were watching Oliver at the weekend with my granddaughter. Goodness knows how many times I've watched it but I still find little nuances in his performance as Fagin - so, so clever http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-33094914

Not met many 'real' celebrities but been on the same bill as a few obscure Z listers including a troupe of harmonica playing little people. I've also worked with Selina Scott and Dickie Davies at the Birmingham Motor show. When I was teaching aerobics, Angie Best (George's ex) tried to set up a class in competition to me. She was very *****y - thought she was god's gift. IIRC only a handful turned up for her class and she gave up after about a month. I did meet Nick Holmes at a Rotary do many years ago - he was charming. I've also met Rolf Harris and Savile many years ago - they were OK but I'd rather not think about them anymore (and here I am doing just that ) My daughter kissed Owen Wilson at a premiere she was attending and she then felt sorry for Ben Stiller who was with him so kissed him too! She's had a thing about Owen Wilson for ages. Can't remember what the film was.

I spent Friday night watching the filming of an episode of the next series of Endeavour. It was being filmed in the house and garden next door to my daughter's. Fascinating to see how long it took to actually film a very small segment having taken 36 hours to set up the house and 12 hours to strike the set!

Australian cracks down on tax avoidance by 30 global corporations

This injury is what I did to my knee about 18 months ago. It's a horrible injury - basically detaching the quadriceps from the patella. Mine was repaired by drilling holes in my knee cap and threading the tendons through - a bit like tab top curtains. Now I'm old and not as fit as I should be but it took me 12 months to be able to walk normally and I still struggle with even gentle gradients so goodness knows how long it would take to get to the level demanded of a premiership goalkeeper even with top notch surgeons and one to one physio.
