It's Foster Care Fortnight at the moment and there's been a fair bit of press about the chronic shortage of foster parents and about some children who move from one home to another many, many times. There's also publicity about the number of children that are separated from their siblings because there aren't enough foster homes able to cater for brothers and sisters. http://www.22minutes.org.uk/ http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/how-foster-care-separates-siblings-8612398.html -
Here's the authoratitive take on the issue http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/public/faqs/how-do-i-find-out-who-owns-andor-has-the-responsibility-for-the-boundary-fencewallhedge-of-a-property

I was always led to believe that if the fence posts and rails point in towards your property then the fence is yours whereas if the fence facing your garden is 'smooth' then it's your neighbour's responsibility. We've just bought a new house and certainly our fences are designated so - the 'deeds' have a red T on the boundaries to show who's responsible for what.

That's a quite disturbing sentence you've posted there.

I'm not sure - what about, for example, the fact that revenues raised by motoring taxes (Road Fund) would necessarily need to be included. That wouldn't be very fair on people who don't / can't drive. I'm sure there would be other examples.

Most high earners will save any additional tax gains or invest in e.g. property. Most low earners will use any additional tax gain to buy things e.g. food, clothes

I also went to a (girls') grammar school in the 60s. And yes there were people from all backgrounds - I was from a working class family. However, there was no doubt in my mind that the girls from middle class backgrounds got a more sympathetic ear when it came to applying for university. And, sadly, I was made to feel inferior because my parents couldn't afford for me to go on the school ski trip.

It's probably no worse now than it's ever been Art - it's just that there's far more awareness via conventional and social media these days. Still desperately sad though.

Although the police are saying, with regard to Roach, that they are confident that they have enough evidence.

I think you mean a brain!

Maybe because those now making the allegations were dismissed by the police at the time of the alleged events - viz Jimmy Savile, the North Wales childrens' home etc., etc. So the victims go to the media instead where at least they'll get some sort of hearing.

Given that Mrs Thatcher moved into the Ritz after Christmas, presumably with a carer, I thought I'd check out the room rates. No doubt she got a discount for an extended stay, but the 2 bedroomed suite I looked at was over £4K A NIGHT, so I would have thought, with that sort of wealth, that her family could have afforded to pay for her funeral

Given that the FL retrospectively punished Luton for financial irregularities, I wonder if the forensic financial review might throw up something that could warrant a similar penalty retrospectively? Ever the eternal optimist, me

But shadow treasury minister Chris Leslie said: "At this rate of deficit reduction, at less than a quarter of 1% a year, it would take 400 years to balance the books. "Now remember," he added, referring to the government's earlier target, "George Osborne promised and David Cameron promised that they'd balance the books, totally - no more deficit - in two years' time by 2015. You can't be more catastrophically off course than that." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22261070

Maybe, SG, you'll give up your day job and work for nothing for a charity? Not that I know what you do - you may be an undertaker for all I know
