  1. Do you think then that the then government shouldn't have spent billions propping up failing banks (I heard quoted yesterday that RBS was 'hours' from going to the wall). Can you just imagine the mayhem and chaos that would have ensued had the banks failed? No doubt would have cost 'us' much much more.
  2. And I wonder how they're going to cope with parking. People pretending to shop at Tesco so that they don't have to walk very far to the ****hole?
  3. It was a couple of years ago that we went. There's the obvious things like the Broads and the Suffolk coast (Southwold and Aldeburgh both worth a trip) but there are some quirky things such as a museum devoted to mechanical organs such as the Wurlitzer (sp) as well as steam trains. http://www.visitnorfolk.co.uk/thedms.aspx?dms=13&venue=0231231 And there's the wonderful Sutton Hoo in Suffolk http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/sutton-hoo/
  4. Norfolk and Suffolk are both lovely and, generally, the east coast tends to be dryer than the rest of the UK. Downside is that transport links aren't too good.
  5. I watched that programme too - it was very good, wasn't it?
  6. No I'm not, chick. I can't stand the bloke - or at least I couldn't but having read some of his more erudite thoughts, I'm beginning to see him in a new light. His writings are superb whether or not you agree with the sentiments.
  7. I like Russell Brand's take on him: Boris Johnson is the most dangerous politician in Britain, precisely because of his charm. The members of the Conservative party that are rallying to install him as leader are those to the right of David Cameron. If you thought the fringe on his head was lunatic, you should see the lunatic fringe that want him as leader. Those for whom Cameron is not Tory enough. "Offshore Dave", leader of a coalition for whom 14 of its 20 most prominent donors have links to companies with offshore holdings. The politicians who want to move the party and our country further to the right want Boris. And well they might: he is the consummate televisual politician. Funny and likable, even when he errs it's cute, like a shaved Winnie the Pooh accidentally eating all the honey. http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2013/jun/28/russell-brand-morning-joe-question-time

  9. Dont forget that public sector future pensioners are also taxpayers so they're funding my pension at the moment and themselves in the future through their taxes too
  10. I doubt it, but they still have to contribute to their employees' pension schemes which is the point I was making.
  11. And it's not just the revenue private companies may receive from government contracts / procurements that fund that company's private pension scheme. Every time you and I go to Sainsburys, or the petrol station or to Currys, we are funding those companies' pension schemes by contributing to their profits.
  12. You mean teachers in private schools don't get 6 weeks' summer holiday? I thought private school holidays were more generous than state ones.
  13. You mean the half term breaks that are taken up with report writing, teaching preparation, training, classroom preparation? After working generally a 10 hour day and then doing further preparation in the evening and at weekends? Not to mention parents' evenings, case conferences and running after school clubs. And then probably using half the 6 week summer break to do even more of the above? Yeah it's an easy life, isn't it.
  14. He's out too!
  15. They should be paid more because many teachers in the private sector aren't actually qualified!
  16. And he's just beaten Lleyton Hewitt
  17. Not seen this man before - very tasty IMO

  19. Sacked according to breaking news on BBC Sport
  20. Do enough housework so that I can be a Wimbledon recluse for the next fortnight

  22. Tangent hopping again but did anyone notice this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22985491 "The Football Association are insisting all football creditors must be paid off in full."
  23. I'm not offering any opinion on whether anything is or is not fit for purpose - I don't know anything about military equipment. I'm simply putting a legal construct on the issue. I happen to think it could be the thin edge of a wedge though - all sorts of people do risky jobs and, if they do those jobs accepting the risks, then that should be an end to the matter. Doesn't matter if they are soldiers, fireman, F 1 drivers.......
