  1. What a brilliant post Saint Bletch! Kudos!
  2. No! This can't be right! There are at least two paragraphs there with more than one sentence!
  3. According to one FB (anti Tory) page, the audience was stuffed full of UKIP candidates. I didn't see the programme so I don't know if there's any truth in that.
  4. More research on effects of immigration http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-29910497

  12. Would he get more money if it WAS sold for residential use? My suspicion is that he would. But maybe he's already 'sold' it to Tesco who might then sell it on for residential use. I don't know....
  13. A bit of light relief http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/10/24/nigel-farage-twitter-qa-_n_6043322.html?1414174005
  14. News reports suggesting that a) this has been known about for some time, and that our Civil Servants provided the data on which this demand is based and b) we got a rebate in 2008 but I don't recall MPs of any persuasion moaning about that!
  15. Mmmm - I did say, when I posted the link, that people who liked maps and statistics might find it interesting. I did say it was veering off the main point of the thread. I looked at the European section of the site as I'm European and I was interested in all the maps and data contained therein. In the course of my study, I was intrigued by map 28 because, in my view, it did cast a realistic light on the question of Islam in Europe. I most certainly wasn't trying to link Islam and immigrants from Muslim countries with the UKIP stance on immigration from Europe. That would be a silly thing to do but, if others want to link the two subjects, then that's their issue, not mine. There are many other maps on the European section that are equally interesting
  16. I'm not debunking any myths but that particular map does - in fact it goes along with KRG's post at 419 above. What am I supposed to reply to - not sure I've even read 'your last post'.
  17. Veering off course to some extent, I found this very interesting site. If you like maps and statistics you'll enjoy this. I particularly found the maps of Europe interesting (hence the posting on this thread) and especially map 28 that might debunk a few myths: http://www.vox.com/2014/9/8/6103453/38-maps-that-explain-europe
  18. It seems most of us have mixed feelings about migration and the EU http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/10/22/eu-migration-confused-poll-free-movement_n_6026550.html?1413978515

  20. No - I was saying that IF ex-pats came flooding back, they would probably put a greater strain on the NHS because most of them would be older. It happens to some extent already anyway. My friend's partner had a heart problem diagnosed in Spain (where he lives) but came back to the UK for a stent fitting. However, to be honest, he does live some of the time in the UK for tax reasons (is a minimum of 6 weeks the requirement?) so I guess he makes some sort of contribution to the NHS.

  22. Hypo - a huge number of medical professionals have migrated to the UK from inside and outside the EU. We'd be royally shafted if there were restrictions on them coming to our country. And this is even more the case with people working in the care industry. I'll see if I can find the reference but the other day it was reported that, compared to other EU countries (presumably Germany, France etc) we have lower immigration in terms of sheer numbers and in terms of percentage.
  23. If we limited migration from other EU countries, I think we'd be the losers if those countries retaliated and demanded we take back all the people from the UK who had migrated to their countries. Think of the huge additional demand (and cost) to the NHS when all the ex-pats returned from Spain and France, for example, since most of them are retirees! Especially since restricting immigration to our country could mean we'd be desperately short of medical professionals and carers to look after them as a result.
  24. However, P**pey are winning 10-1 on the fouls front, although they have received no yellow cards whereas Stevenage has received one.
