Although, of course, the YouGov poll gives Labour a lead of 3 points and the BBC Poll of Polls has them dead even http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/politics/poll-tracker

Whereas the workers (represented by those evil Unions) don't actually pay into the economy and help the country run? Jeez!
-
Like the Tories who are completely beholden to the hedge funds, banks, non-doms and tax dodgers you mean?

Oh I'd love it if Beatts got the job - think of the carnage he could cause!

I'm taxed on earnings (pension in my case). Out of that taxed income I pay VAT on goods and services plus petrol duty, booze duty, fags duty, stamp duty (if and when I move). How is IHT any different? It is currently £325K per person but if one person in a partnership dies, their 'limit' is passed on to their partner effectively making the 'limit' £650K. So the £1m limit isn't as generous as its flagged up to be.

The (most recent) facts about IHT http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-2794199/raising-inheritance-tax-threshold-pays-rise-s-fair-level-death-tax.html http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-2276875/Around-20-000-families-pay-95-000-tax-2019-Osborne-freezes-inheritance-threshold.html and a point of view http://www.mirror.co.uk/usvsth3m/inheritance-tax-fairest-tories-wrong-5511387

I know it, you know it but some people refer to it as if the estate owner is the one who has to pay the tax. Semantics I know
-
The people who gain from any uplift of the IHT threshold ARE NOT the people who attained the money through hard work and graft. It is their children etc. who gain. The tax is only due when the estate owner dies!

Very difficult to get Legal Aid nowadays
-
And it's not actually that big a hike. Currently the joint tax free amount is 2 x £350K. They are proposing 2 x £500K. It's just a tax on unearned income after all.

I think you'll find they're wanting to reform the bit that says an individual needs to stump up increasingly unaffordable fees just to bring a case to court. http://www.theguardian.com/money/2015/jan/06/employment-tribunal-fees-price-workers-out-of-justice It's not about changing employment law

That argument was used with regard to stopping / curtailing bankers' bonuses. Didn't happen though, did it

Here's a way we could achieve a lot of what we want to do: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/page/content/tax-dodging-video-share/

I'd be prepared to do that, yes. One of the reasons I won't shop at Tesco (one reason amongst many). I'm paying for it through income tax at the moment anyway.

He was dreadful, wasn't he. He seems to think he only has to say 'long term economic plan' 'hard-working families' etc. etc a hundred times and that's enough to win the election.

This is worth a read - showing just how much tight-fisted supermarkets are costing you and me by paying low wages http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-32272817

With a lengthy pause at the end of each one to indicate that it was, in fact, a paragraph

This was 10 years ago! The Fail must be desperate Hang on - haven't we agreed that candidates can't be held responsible for stuff that happened in their youth a la Farage? .

You're having a giraffe Jeff! I'm sure we can all think of friends / family that have done absolutely everything right to improve and sustain their lot but who, for reasons totally beyond their control, find themselves at rock bottom and unable to climb out of the pit.

Like Nigel Farage the other day you mean?
