Why Markus Liebherr should buy Portsmouth Football Club
Miltonaggro replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
This is all academic as the sale of PFC is a done deal; it's the worst kept secret at Ritzy's that Fred Dineage is fronting the 'survivors' consortium backed by the Krankies, Jimmy Saville and Gary Glitter. Portsmuff News has already christened the burgeoning consortium the 'Dream Team'... -

Winning at Wembley in the first season - Good or Bad?

Remember Cortese's comments about seeing the replica sword in the trophy cabinet and asking 'where are the real trophies?...'. Let's face it, the JPT is hardly the European Cup, but it would be an appropriate start to world domination considering our current position! Plus, those of us who went to the ZDS final had a great day out with 35000 like-minded individuals despite the mickey mouse flavour. Think of the JPT as the silver plated stand of an enormous wedding cake... -
It is a new dawn, a new day, but now and forever Lowe will always be our pantomine villain. In failing Southampton he slowly decimated and divided the archetype 'family club' - prior to his time we were quaint, but stable, solid and seen with affection by the neutrals in football. He was at the helm of Saints during the salad days of the Premier League, when a shaved monkey in a boiler suit with Enron emblazoned on the back could have raised finance. His biggest failing was that he could never move on from his opinion that football professionals and football fans were thick, and thus taking and making money from them would be a cakewalk! He was General Melchett to our Blackadder, or for some of us Captain Darling. We all went over the top in the end while he retreated 70 miles behind the lines...

Could be worse, they were saying on Sky this morning that the new no-mark owner of Portsmuff (fake sheikh mark II) is completely unknown in business, let alone football. If he does a runner I have it on good authority that Claude Rains or David McCallum will take over, though in a burka instead of bandages (for continuity)...

Cortese did say that he wanted to win trophies rather than have 'gifts' in the cabinet at SMS. Given the mountain to climb (K2) to achieve promotion by the play offs this season this would be a good start...

Our thoughts are with the good doctor in his hour of need, apparently he has been suffering from the sh*ts for the last two months. I for one will never forget the look of puzzlement and sheer terror on his face when he was first being shown around the 'stadium' by Peter Story - pure Meridian gold! Heard the new consortium is fronted by a man called Ali Bongo! You couldn't make it up...

The original lucid question from Docker was at what point does the situation (and we are currently very much on relegation form) become untenable. At present we are not even a dozen games in, and to be fair we have looked solid if not spectacular in a good few of those - progress is being made. However, on the back of a frustrating home defeat the fanbase is obviously going to be split and hackles raised. But, Bristol Rovers are a good TEAM in league 1, and I think the biggest challenge we (supporters and players) have to face is that like it or not we are very much in league 1 and to escape from this purgatory we have to learn to play as a team! The head says that we must give Pardew a full season, and IMHO I think he will pull it round. The heart says that if we a still in deep trouble come the new year that the pressure may well become too much for both the majority of the support and Mr L, as he did not buy this club to play fourth division football...

Lol! The Carry On analogy is very apt 76er. Benard Bresslaw is perfect as Tony 'Odd Bod jr' Adams 'Siiiiiiiiiiidddddddd, Siiiiiiiiiiiiiddddddd, what am i spouse to be doin' Siiiiiiiidddddddd!', the the fake sheikh as the Karzi of Kalibar, and Harry Rednaff as Mr Fiddler. I don't think that there will be a sequel...

The rats do seem to be leaving the Marie Celeste! LMFAO ot loud in fact! I think that 'Dr' Fakehim should generate as much media exposure as possible to keep up morale as he is a natural. Him and Fred Draineage should have their own 'thought for the day' series on Meridian Tonight where they discuss their innermost fantasies. A segment could be based on the Apprentice, where instead of saying 'you're fired' Fakehim utilises the catch-phrase ' please don't leave'. We have reached rock bottom and are coming back much, much stronger; they appear to be talking down a potential plummet that would make the fall of the Roman Empire look like a minor blip...

I have a cousin who is a Leeds fan, and work with a Norwich City supporter (poor b*stard) - both work in London and travel at weekends to see home matches when able. We were talking about support and competitive pricing in what is a rather poor spectacle of a league a week ago, and I seem to remember hearing that Leeds matchday league prices were banded between £15-25 this season, whereas Norwich were £11-22 both depending on the opposition. If accurate, as a fellow sleeping giant in League 1, this does indeed make Yeovil look a tad pricey...

Having a sense of humour is one thing, but it is genuinely disgraceful to compare Rupert Lowe to Adolf Hitler. For the vast majority of his decade as leader of the Third Reich AH (on the rebound as a failed artist) managed to unite the fractured German populace, resurrect the country to challenge in Europe, and harness the power of oratory and the media. RL (on the rebound as a sub-standard failed agent) in his decade as Chairman at SFC on the other hand, was unsuccessful in these, and many, many, many (emphasis added) other areas. Hitler also had a fanatical entourage of hopelessly camp social misfits and reactionaries who would defend his every action even after his demise; and in the face of almost universal condemnation. Hang on...

Coppell lined up as Director of Football - online report (or not)
Miltonaggro replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
If Cortese is sensible he will consult AP over the appointment and pick a person that Pardew knows, trusts, and is happy with. In the past Pardew has cited Keith Pea**** and Steve Coppell as his mentors, and Peter Grant and Alan Smith as a good friends in football and any one of these would be a good call as a Sporting Director to work WITH and FOR the manager...
