I'm reading "Sapiens-A Brief History of Human Kind", which was published 6 years ago, (well before Brexit), and I would commend it to anyone. It points out that since our species took control 70,000 years ago, through a cognitive ability to cooperate in larger groups than our Homo Erectus and Neanderthal competition, we have progressively coalesced into fewer and fewer, larger and larger societies and cultures. Where empires have collapsed, they have generally left more widespread cultures, and less nations than they absorbed to form. The EU was formed as an empire, due to this imperative, uniquely pretty much without military conquest, genocide or horrific suffering. If that is our natural direction, because humanity can't organise itself, and an ever more complicated world, in any other way, l for one hope the next attempt, whenever it comes, is equally bloodless!!

After the cost of Milan and the injustice of the first 135 mins, one of those great rare nights when justice was finally done. Respect to JWP, VVD and Claude Puel.

Expecting to get your arse clean with your hands and some very thin fragile paper; that's what's odd.

IMHO England ought to forget about trying to win anything for a generation. Or two. The whole thing should become an exercise in populating our national side with players and management that deserve the honour of playing for their nation through professionalism but also good conduct on and off the pitch. No more sex worker ****ging, drink driving, bung taking trash anywhere near our national side. It should be established as a very important personal honour to play for England. Do that, and then when we've marked ourselves out as the good guys, and people know they need to shape up if they're going to be involved, start to think about how competitive we are. This is naive of course, but ask yourself when did we win anything anyway? What would we have to loose? Would never happen of course as it must be the last thing on the FA's mind in reality!!

Me and the lad are on that. Getting a lift up there. -
Well I reckon; Labour would be a mess anyway. Corbyn's election is a symptom of the modern white working class wanting socialism that benefits them, in a cocktail of anti-immigration nationalism that the intellectual left are never going to be able to sign up to. Corbyn is just one of many oddball options that was going to get thrown up. That's not to say that he is anti immigration or a nationalist, but he has qualified by being prepared to spout a load of stuff that he's not concerned about being practical in reality.

The only curve ball might be if the much maligned LibDems, (who in a rational world might have been congratulated for restraining Tory excess in the coalition), stood on some type of remain platform. I doubt if they could agree on thwarting the will of the democratic 52%, but they've been left with little to loose from a big gamble.

All the sky fairy believer types have had there moments.

Yep. Can't dispute that.

No one really knows the likely effect on the UK economy. It's an equation with far too many variables. That knowledge free's you up to vote based on the person you would like to be. That's what I'm doing.

Yes. As ever the genuine poor are the softest target.

It's still the best place to live in the world but there is now too much nimby self interest and lots of people at both ends of the social spectrum with no plans to do a good days work any time soon.

Of course there is always truth that bigger clubs will ultimately prosper but with this happening currently, at the end of January; - saints beating MU at old Trafford and taking four points off Arsenal in short order. - the current champions in the bottom half of the table. - Leicester City clear at the top of the premier league. - Liverpool and United well below expectations. - Little old Bournemouth making a good fist of staying up in some style. - A club the size and stature of Villa adrift at the bottom of the table, you seem to have waited for the worst moment in about twenty five years to make your point. I suppose you might just be fishing!

Fair point. He hasn't worked out, which is a shame, and almost certainly not what he would have chosen.

I don't want fracking, which is bound to result in pollution of my tap water and random plate tectonic activity, or something. I want the government to continue with maintenance of my 4 foreign holidays per year, my cheap gas central heating and enough diesel to run the small collection of German cars we have. I would also appreciate it if they could tell me what they think I want to hear and quietly deal with any trouble that might arise in securing this supply. If that ever involves a war, of course someone else can send their kids off to die in it. I don't want to know about the awful lives led by people of different ethnic origin in the horrible **** holes where all the oil and gas can come from. Of course I'm pro renewables, but not unreasonably I don't want wind turbines or solar panels to ever disturb any view I ever have, either at home or on holiday, even if it's just a small dot on the horizon. Ever. I want lots of cheap labour to wash my cars. I don't want them living near me though. That would mean building more houses on a field near me which I have allocated for an occasional theoretical idyllic dog walk. I want them magically transported in daily from the northern power house, but not by high speed train because that might involve a new train line running through the Cotswolds and I thought I might rent a holiday cottage there at some time in the future. Basically I just want to consume, without any accountability whatsoever. And all the crap needs to happen somewhere else so that my property value is maintained. That's OK isn't it? Jesus Christ.

Yes. Thanks.

Will be seriously thinking about a Tesla for my next company car, which is admittedly a while away, if I run the current car for the usual 3 years. It seems from my limited research so far that it adds precisely zero to your P11D. Any views on if that is correct, and how long it will stay that way?

Even though I am too old and health-conscious now to actually eat a sausage roll it is still comforting to know that they exist and are available locally.

There should be a countermovement. Perhaps it could be called Chris-tianity.

From the chapel it just looked as though he needed time to re-adjust his balance before he could have got anything on it at all. Just one of those things. Would like to see it again properly though.

Brilliant read. Thanks.

Just put that in proper Facebook speak for you [emoji4]
