  1. People's arguments are formed from there personal experience though aren't they. I can see your point because I grew up in Dorset. I live in east Dorset. Last season, the house next door and the house immediately across the road both had regular SMS attendees. If you cross the forest at half one on a Saturday afternoon you see loads of cars with clues that they are going to the game. I'm in business and the amount of people we deal with that are real fair weather saints support! I bet if you grew up within a mile of the Dell and that's your perspective, this all sounds like a total load of cobblers. You know people who are die hard Saints, and others within the city that have zero interest in football or the club, and the two groups are pretty fixed. We also all argue hard for what we actually want as well. That is a separate question. I don't know. Funny as the skirmishes on these threads are, it will be a clearer issue 10 games into the season.
  2. With the time it took to queue for a leak at the Dell, she would not have realised that you were still in a relationship Tbf.
  3. They all look like such nice ladies don't they. Very friendly. When I make this observation my Mrs just scowls and sometimes throws something at me!
  4. I bought a new Zafira 1.6i Life for my wife in 2005 and kept it for 6 years. The car was generally great as I expect you found, but the 1.6 petrol engine was pretty crap; not too much power, thirsty and comes with a truly awful clutch. I would avoid that engine if you do decide on another Zafira.
  5. I just think its nice that the club are talking up the fans. To some extent I think they see that as a self fulfilling prophesy.
  6. I've got reasonable home fan credentials, having been to games every season since 94. I have had a season ticket for all but two of those seasons. This time around we are moving to get back in the family section, as taking 5 of us is pretty expensive otherwise. I am sure people with season tickets where we are going to sit in block 20 will look at us and think "oh yeah, where were you in league one". On the other hand, some fans are better than others. The club needs die hard supporters, not even just to make up some numbers in the bad times, but to give the whole thing a proper club feel and a bit of soul. For some the club is dominant in there lives. IMHO those people have every right to look down their nose at the returning plastic and particularly corporate hoards. It is not even as though most of the newcomers will notice the inference or care that much.
  7. And Kevin Keegan had a Datsun 240Z.
  8. Are we signing Jay Rodriguez's dad? If so we should crack on. He looks like he will need plenty of pre-season to get Saints fit.
  9. Just wanted to point out that I was only 7.5 hours from glory in the "Date of the First Signing Sweepstake", which is now locked and long forgotten. No one had Sunday. I have no idea who we should or shouldn't sign, and admit it, but when it's going to happen is a different matter.
  10. Adam Lallana signed my nippers season ticket whilst queuing at a checkout in our local Waitrose. We had the ticket handy in the car, and are definitely not stalkers in case you read this stuff Adam.
  11. I took the wife and kids last year. We absolutely loved it but I do know people that couldn't see what the fuss was about. We stayed in the Skyline on 49th and 10th which was very basic but good value for the location. I would fly Virgin again. Love the breakfasts in a nearby diner. You needed nothing else all day, but not debilitating like a full english. I liked; Nat history museum and planetarium Top of the rock at night Central park on Sunday morning Without the kids we would have done different things. We hired a Mercury V8 to drive out to NJ to see my wife's uncle. People say not to drive in Manhattan, but I thought it was a brilliant experience if you like driving and cars. The main thing about it as far as I could see was that you felt like you were living on a film set. I had not realised the extent that New York backdrops and iconography are used in film and TV until I had been there. There is a fair chance you will love it.
  12. I am an idiot who knows nothing about football but even I can see you are right. The quality of attacking play at the highest level makes it look like players have more time, but they don't. That's why it's the highest level.
  13. Swanage coastguard never got to do a tour in Nam.
  14. The most likely flare related scenario would have been the launch of a lifeboat!!
  15. Miss; winning so much Not looking forward to; losing the bit of knowledge I've picked up about the world beyond the PL
  16. Leeds at home set the tone West Ham at home showed we were serious Peterborough away put it beyond reasonable doubt
  17. For my money, Brian Clough is just beginning to look like a much better comparison. OK you probably can't expect league 1 to European Cup winners in this day and age, but on some other levels Nigel seems a bit Cloughesque. Same drive and attitude to the way the game should be played. A bit paternal about his team. Same English provincial footballing background. Brian Clough was a real hero, and so is Nigel.
  18. Right, bedtime and I've got my stuff laid out for the morning. I'm going for Calvin Klein boxers, a Hackett polo shirt, my favourite K Swiss nubuck trainers, and a Helly Hansen jacket. Oh and because I'm a bit nervous about the game, I'm going to match it with a pair of Arko armoured dayglo chainsaw trousers that I've brought home from work.
  19. Fat Sam will probably realise that a momentum of winning will serve them better going into the play-offs than resting players, especially with the size of his squad.
  20. I don't think anyone else has mentioned it but were the 30 or so Palace fans in black, with the raised arms and choreography, doing an "ultra" thing?
  21. Just got in. Me and my two lads are not regular away support so today was a really great day out. I have to say the stewards and blokes on the turnstiles were nice to the kids, so no complaints from me. With regard to the football, I thought we looked back to our controlled and effective best. Actually Cork and Hammond looked much like they did over the first games of the season, when Morgan couldn't get a game, so no desparate panic if we have to manage without him for the last four games I think. Admittedly Palace didn't put up the stiffest of opposition, but we surely have enough to get over the line now anyway. The title is more a matter of pride and will be exiting rather than the stress of missing out on auto promotion. Several other reflections; No nerves from the support today, just plenty of noise and enthusiasm. We were right behind the aisle on block U, and there were 4 or 5 lads in front of the aisle. When Rickie hit the second, one of the poor f***ers fell backwards over his seat. He was spread out on the aisle and it looked like another one jumped on him with a full tongue in throat snog. I ushually shudder at man-love a bit, but it was quite funny. The whole feel of the occasion and passing so many coaches on the way home felt like a cup semi. Brilliant day.
  22. It was disappointing and the tension was a factor. I think it helps if people remember to get a couple of drinks inside them if they think that will be a factor.
