WOWEE!!!!!!!!! Just had a corker of an e-mail to and fro regarding Portsmuff from a very old acquaintance of my times working down that way (did a short stint with one of their sponsors back in the day and still keep in touch). Apparently he/they think liquidation is only a matter of time, but a number of people in the circle he mixes in (semi big hitters down that way) are thinking of promoting a Phoenix Club for next season, but are not at all impressed with PSTs performance to date and do not want them involved. I told him he had some ground to make up and doubted he would get ahead of the PST with regards grass roots support, but he was adamant they would get businesses and supporters on side. So what are he odds on a Portsmuff City and a Portsmuff United being in competition!!!! Talk about splitting the fanbase.

Just can't see how their Trust bid can or will work. The amount Birch has negotiated with players (probably with Chanrai in mind) is for £4m-£6m more than the Trust have in their business plan!!! Cant see them raising the difference, nor can I see it being possible to negotiate a further compromise from the players in time to satisfy the powers that be (even if potential liquidation might be focussing a few players minds).

I would have to agree with you. The current Club will, for some time, be burdened with the legacy and debts of their recent unethical, immoral and uunscrupulous existence. It would be better to start afresh in the lower leagues and attempt to capture a semblance of respect and decency. The PCC loan, outstanding debts & stadium/land ownership issues are too large, too intertwined and too burdensome to give the Trust any chance in the short to medium term. However, from a p15s take perspective, we should want the Trust to wade in and bumble along before hitting the same problems in a year or two.

Demolished and now flats I believe. But there's still a Southampton Mason's Arms still very much alive in Koh Phangnan!!! http://www.themasonsarms.in.th/

I know schools who were doing loads with the Schools Sports Partnerships, particularly linking with sports clubs and going in to Primaries where many didn't have dedicated PE staff (and also a shortage of male staff). Problem is Gove scrapped it as soon as he got through the doors of the DFE (as well as scrapping the school sports survey which allowed for a detailed analysis of what was going on on schools). Cameron (and Hunt) got it seriously wrong with their anti state school tirade and from my experience (somewhat anecdotal of course), teachers are well up for supporting and pushing competitive sport as well as other activities to get kids interested, healthy and active. Sadly, contrary to what Cameron says, money is an issue.

We are actually well served by local rowing clubs down here. Off the top of my head can think of BTC, Coalporters, Southampton ARC and Vospers/Itchen (plus the Unis). All of them are very welcoming and you don't have to sign up for doing it competitively and they're more than happy for you to use it as a means of keeping fit/recreational. Did a bit at Coalporters and Vospers back in the days!

Spot on. All this *****ing and moaning about the FAPPT not being tough enough and leaving them exposed to dodgy owners is now conveniently forgotten as they fawn over BC coming back. Then again it shouldn't be a surprise given the way they have only been too happy to praise owners/players/officials I the heady days only to be up for a public hanging the next. "there's only one Peter Storrie" ringing around the tip was may fave.

I think one of the biggest problems is the misunderstandings highlighted in your own post. Honor killings, Izzat, whatever you want to call them transcend religions and have their basis in tribal & cultural history, rather being a "Muslim" issue. http://www.brin.ac.uk/news/2012/honour-crimes/ http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/fisk/robert-fisk-the-crimewave-that-shames-the-world-2072201.html

Round my uncles and we're talking about the Central Baths as he took part in the opening gala in 1962 (water polo). We are trying to work out when it closed. Found out The Quays opened in 1999, but can't find when the 16ft 6 close? Also did Central baths have a refurb in 80s (flumes put in???) or was there anew pool in between Central Baths and The Quays??

Has he been paid all the money he was owed first time around?? Or is he still,on their list of football creditors??

Whilst I accept retweeting or re-posting of articles does not imply approval, but I'm not sure posting of that article and it's ludicrous viewpoint is worthy of even this noddy forum. I just struggle to comprehend the hypocrisy, sanctimony and sensational claims from the TPA on this one. I'm all up for ensuring taxpayers money is spent as efficiently and effectively as possible and that taxes are kept as low as possible, but the TPA really show their true colours here with their right wing gutter press diatribe.
-
Of all the anti union rants, I have to say the TPA "revelation" that 36 Union leaders earn more than £100k has to be the weakest and most hypocritical one out there. I've worked at a number of medium and large companies and at some there were more than 36 earning that in one company!! Feck me, without getting too Berty Big Balls, my last P60 before going in to teaching in 2003 was approaching that figure. The average bonus at Barclays Capital was about the same. When you consider they represent/work for hundreds of thousands of members with income in the millions (my Union leader earns £104k, represents 300,000 professionals and has an annual budget of £40m) and they regular deal with the top mandarins/echelons of Government, then quite rapidly the TPAs argument unravels. Its almost "Socialist" in terms of jealousy of people earning large sums. Sensational story me up I'm surprised you used it in an argument Trousers.

Just can't see it I'm afraid. The only people who could surely help pay the players would be the PFA. The football creditors rule is surely only applicable to those teams in the league who want to keep their golden share.
-
But aren't some of the Blue Few claiming that if they are liquidated then the football creditors bit is irrelevant and they are in the same queue as normal creditors getting the square root of feck all?????? Have to say that does have potential to make sense as the Football Creditors rule would only apply to a football club playing the league and of they are liquidated then it won't apply. In which case I can see a game of poker being played and the players eventually giving in and the Blue Few getting away with it again.

Probably didn't realise how bad they were until I thought about moving house. Firstly the original application never got sent out and cost us a couple of weeks in the moving process. Kept phoning them to tell them I've not received it and they eventually conceded it was not sent out. Received it two weeks late. Then this morning it just gets better. Had to sign for a package this morning and upon opening it the covering letter informed me enclosed were all my confidential documents I had sent off to support my application. HOWEVER, all of the documents (salary details, tax returns, tax forms, director contracts, NI stuff etc) are not mine, but some poor bloke from Chandler's Ford!!!!!! Then sent ages on the phone this morning trying to let them know but kept getting passed from pillar to post and gave up!!!!! Off to cricket in a minute where some poor bowler is going to get some stick (or I'll be out for a duck swinging wildly!!!!!).

I'd say there was a bit of a rivalry in late 70s and early 80s when we were both challenging for promotion to the top flight and then establishing ourselves in the old first division. It was probably also boosted by being about the time Portsmuff totally fell off the radar screen and we're in a shambles on and off the pitch (nothing changes)..But for me that was about the extent of it until they were promotion rivals a year or so ago. In between, I think many had a bit of a soft spot given the shafting they were receiving from their owners/board..Poyet & his entourage weren't very impressive with their words, nor their style of play & theatrics, but I couldn't get overly worked up about them and just considered them as one season promotion rivals (in the same way as West Ham & Reading this year). It was obvious their supporters would support their manager, so couldn't also get too excited about their response to us (although did think some of the anti Adkins/Saints stuff was a tad small time!).

Living in Ocean Village I can add that the boat trains are still a regular occurrence to the Old Docks. Fairly regularly for Cunard boats (imagine its a part of the "Traditonal British sale"). In fact on our cruise last year we had to wait until the boat train from Scotland arrived. We watched it from our balcony pull up at the old QEII terminal two hours late!!!! Rare to see one pulled by a steam engine, but have seen the odd one or two a year. Some wonderful posts, links and photos on this thread. And as I'm writing this I can hear the two tone horn of a train crossing Canute Road.

This G4S shambles is the simple retort when anyone claims; Private Sector = good & efficient, whilst Public Sector = bad & profligate Neither have a monopoly on good and bad practice and neither have a monopoly on efficiency. And whilst neither have a monopoly with regards a duty of care, I can't help thinking that sometimes, just sometimes the desire to make £££££s sometimes clouds the judgement of some.

Only recently got rid of all my gear (impending fatherhood!!!). Certified with Andark (in those torpedo ponds at HMS Excellence) then went further with Manta Diving?? In Eilat and The Down Under Divers?? in Cairns. Apart from Eilat a couple of times all my diving was secondary to the holidays/travels themselves. Managed to dive most of the Caribbean (Jamaica, Cuba, St Lucia, Barbados) with the base of the Pitons in St Lucia being a highlight. South East Asia was hit and miss. Phuket way, Phi-Phi and Andaman islands pretty good, not overly impressed by Samui, Koh Tao. Highlights there included the sunken catamaran ferry and regular sharks. Cambodia and Vietnam rubbish and overfished and reefs wrecked. Red Sea was very good for abundance of marine life and managed to run in to a pod of dolphins. Barrier Reef was up there with the best. Stayed on a live aboard clipper for a fortnight cruising the reef. At one time a shoal of huge Bumpheads swam right through our party and it was just like watching cows meander across roads in the New Forest!!! New Zealand was very good (but cold!!), with the highlight of all my diving being spending time diving the Rainbow Warrior which was re sunk in the bay of islands. Great memories.

Anyone on here want to tout for some business or can recommend a Saints fan who I can give the business to???? At the moment it's just selling my place and need to exchange by end of August. Haven't nailed somewhere to buy yet (might rent for a bit) but also hoping to get in somewhere before end of summer as well.

Couldn't take Ken Livingstone seriously (didn't take him that serious before TBF) when he launched in to Boris for avoiding tax, when he was also playing the tax avoidance game. As with Carr and Cameron, I'm not overly fussed about someone attempting to legally avoid tax, for me it's the deed of slaughtering Barclays or claiming to be morally outraged whilst benefitting from a similar scheme.

Initially thought it was a Sparrowhawk, but speaking to brother recently he mentioned that there are Peregrine Falcons nesting in cranes at the docks so got me thinking.
