  1. Have to say the work the Saints Foundation is doing in Millbrook & Lordshill is top notch (also only heard great things about the stuff over at Woodlands School as well). Engaging with the youngsters and getting loads involved. Local Police deserve praise along with the local youth workers. If I had one criticism/improvement, then it would be to get more players involved. I've always thought that given the amount of spare time they get and the way the kids in the local communities look up to them, then giving up a few hours to pop along to these events would be a good idea.
  2. Not a shirt, but on the subject of misspelling, the henna man on Chaweng beach in Koh Samui was knocking out Saints Crests with Southamton on them around the same time (early 2000s). Almost got one to go with my Buma flip flops and Von Dutch Oricinal T shirt.
  3. Probably around 2003????, on about floor 6 of MBK Mall in Bangkok saw a fake Saints home kit in a kiddies size. You could tell it was a fake due to misspelling of FREIDS PROVIDENT!!!
  4. Ok, I'll let him know and sort out arrangements. Seeing him Saturday so hopefully he will have them with him.
  5. Friend of mine was lucky enough to win tickets in the ballot but was allocated them for the Monday (day 5) and can't now go. I'm on hollibobs so wondered if anyone fancied them. Two adults & two concessions (children or OAPs). He wants what he paid for them, which is £60 the lot.
  6. Those who play on the Hampshire League on a Saturday and who play within the boundaries are: Southampton Community II - Millbroom Rec Southampton Travellers - Lordshill Riverside CC - Riverside Park Biggest problem is lack of decent facilities and pitches within the City, although in the midweek leagues there are a number of clubs making use of the Council pitches (above plus Sports Centre, Hoglands etc). As others have said, I think most Sotonians venture out of the City to play their cricket, where space is not a premium and there are clubs with a long history.
  7. But then again it's a business and if we don't like it we can always go and buy another shirt. I personally like LA Galaxy's new shirt so might go and buy my nephews one of them each to wear to SMS as they look a bit better.
  8. Very poor effort. Limited effort in design, limited reference to history andtradition. The sneaked picture looked like something that would beknocked out on the cheap in a market in Thailand and the real McCoy isn’t muchdifferent.
  9. It's déjà vu time and I remember when this topic came up a couple of years back. I'll never understand the rush to the bottom with regards pensions. With the exception of some top end (perhaps comparable to those huge pay offs seen in the Private Sector) and some very old schemes, Public Sector schemes aren't that lucrative and average out at something like £7k a year. I wholeheartedly supported the recent Hutton reforms asking for public employees to contribute a bit more and to look at how payments are earned/paid, but he also spoke of the hidden time bomb in the private sector. The biggest issue is the lack of provision and savings in the Private Sector, because of course who will be fronting up the shortage when these workers retire????? It will be the taxpayer of course, so you can either moan having to pay out ££££s now to fund Public Sector schemes or moan later when you're paying out ££££s to help support those from the Private Sector who retire with poor or even no pensions schemes to fund them.
  10. Have to back Gemmel up on ths one. Great bunch of lads who you'll see home and away at Saints matches getting off their arses and doing something for those less fortunate kids who live in the City.
  11. We would do well to crack top ten next season and the idea of top 4 is farcical. So who out of Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal are going to dislodge????
  12. Not sure whether to say how amazing or how foolish!! Found it difficult to watch at times, but stunning at others!! Plus I could see my old house
  13. The Old Man is gutted at hearing the news that one of the holy trinity has passed away. RIP Ron
  14. LOL it would have been the only one my grandad knew!!!!
  15. 10 (but had an educated guess on the Dortmund ground). As it said at the end I spend too much time on Google maps plus having a good read of Simon Inglis' books!!!
  16. I really do have to disagree with you there. Southampton has long been a City built on its port and the movement of people. Throughout its history newcomers, be they French, Italians, Spanish, Afro-Caribbean, Asians from the sub continent (or Uganda), Maltese, Chinese, through to the newcomers from Eastern Africa & Eastern Europe have all made this City their home. Currently 1 in 8 are from an ethnic minority group, with that figure rising to 1 in 5 (or even 1 in 4) if you include those immigrants from Eastern Europe. i would accept it doesn't have the concentrations of specific places such as Oldham, Bradford and even London, but it is a multi cultural city with the many benefits that brings with it.
  17. cheers, saw them on Checkatrade and they had decent reviews. cheers for the recommendation
  18. if you could tHat would be great, thanks.
  19. Finally moved in to our place after 6 months building work and still have quite a bit of work left to do inside the house and so the garden has been/is being somewhat neglected. Just spent 8 hours getting rid of ivy at the front and sorting some other bits out when I realised I really could do with some help. Back garden is great, trees, shrubs, flowers, different sections etc, but its not been touched in a year and has gone a bit wild. Could do with some doing the legwork to get it back to a decent starting position. anyone know or can recommend someone???
  20. I don't think you'll find many who are not against militant Islam, particularly the type that manifests itself in brutal atrocities. You don't have to be a part of the EDL to oppose militant and/or extremist Islam. I would suggest some people's interpretation of it is completely backwards, particularly when combined with cultural/tribal contexts & influences. Just as some people's interpretation of Christianity would be deemed by some by being backwards, doesn't mean it all is. I think you'll find these courts, just like the Jewish Beth Din courts & other religious courts supplement our existing civil courts very well. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7233040.stm http://www.religionandsociety.org.uk/uploads/docs/2012_02/1329231240_Douglas_Phase_3_Small_Grant_Block.pdf Think you're really confused here, as these courts have no jurisdiction over criminal matters in the UK. Given your ignorance (no offence meant) of some of the issues above, then I can see how you've come to that misguided point of view. The overwhelming majority of Muslims live in peace and contribute to this country. Islam and the UK seems to work very well for them and the communities they live in. Methinks you might be viewing the past through those rose tinted glasses of yours, as the integration of Afro-Caribbeans, Hindus, Sikhs and other immigrants took time, patience and understanding and was not without its flashpoints and incidents. I thought we had moved on from Muslims being the bogeymen and progressed on to the Poles, Romanians & Bulgarians, but there seems to be some life left in the Muslim bashing.
  21. Im sure that like most Islamophobes, xenophobic and racists, you will always be able to pick out the odd semblance of a rational comment amidst the normal diatribe. Whatever the problem, the EDL or other fringe/extremist groups are not the answer (and the same goes for extreme left, radical Islamists, fundamental Christians etc etc etc). However, I think it would be foolish to ignore the perceived problems (real or imagined) that people feel they have and we should be working together to help resolve, solve or reduce them, but I can say for sure the actions of Robinson and his ilk, along with the Islamic extremists only exacerbate the problem, and certainly are not part of the solution.
  22. Whilst there were some massive differences between the events (one premeditated v one a costly coming together) I did think of the "Corporals Killings" when watching the news the other night, particularly due to the barbaric way in which they were both killed and how the macabre event was captured in film. Also the very public nature of the horrific scenes and how they were played out in front of an audience of hundreds at the scene.
  23. Really? Previous attacks in the UK and the USA have shown no particular discrimation with regards race (or even religion). You only have to look at the victims of the 7/7 bombings to see how indiscriminate these attacks are.
  24. So by your logic we should consider stopping the selling of bananas as they too can be used as a racist slur. It's not the item itself, instead like a watermelon and Kool Aid, its the context and how it is phrased.
  25. There has been much conjecture and discussion on this point as many feel that Islamophbian is indeed not racist, as by its very nature Islam is not restricted to any one particular "race". I'm pretty sure that any attack/threat etc would in the eyes of the CPS be classed as a religious incident and not a racist one (and I certainly wouldn't put one above the other in terms of seriousness). As for why this hasn't been classed as a racist attack, the others have already clearly explained the reasons for that.
