  1. Just popped out to collect three copies (one for me and two presents) from Messr Chalk and the book looks fantastic. A true labour of love that you really need to see to believe. Top work by all involved and a must buy for the avid Saints fan.
  2. Sooooo disappointing that with some of our best performances in recent years we have to be so petty and vindictive off it. Fingers crossed those involved with Hagiology don't get their fingers burnt here. Hopefully the wider Saints community can come together to help them out.
  3. Presume it will have something to do with Franny or Matty being invited/involved in the launch and the club taking umbrage. if that is the case, then it is ridiculously petty on behalf of the Club, and I presume a real spanner in the works for the Hagiology lads who might now struggle to shift enough copies to break even (and therefore putting at risk any other "decent" books on our Club). I'm loving our on the pitch performances, just wish we could match that off the pitch, as I simply don't see it as an either/or choice. Presume Duncan, Gary, David et al are a tad miffed at all this.
  4. Very impressive attention to detail in there. Cycling seems to be setting the pace in some areas of preparation, and remember the old head of UK cycling talking about teaching athletes how to wash their hands properly in an attempt to stop the spread of coughs and colds. The mattress haul may sound OTT but thinking about it a good nights sleep before a game is actually massively important. Hats off to those running the football side, they are doing a decent job. As an aside then why have The Mail used a photo of Portsmuff training at Wellington/Stoneham????
  5. One of the my mates put me on to his subby who he gets to do all his windows on his new builds and the bloke has been spot on. obviously getting mates rates, but next week he's doing two big sash windows, two big kitchen windows, 2 small hall windows and a back door for £2000. Before that he put in two huge bays, and has redone all the soffits, guttering and facia. The work is top drawer. Chris Stoner http://www.stonerhomeimprovements.co.uk/contact-home-improvements
  6. Thought the same thing a couple of weeks ago when we went out for the first time since the little 'un turned up. Was always our Thai of choice, it's now takeaways from Thai 2 Go. Would be curious to know what's happened to Joy & co.???
  7. Sorry Jack, the day must have got to me as well!!!! Can't see how I can edit my post (mind you as with the Old Rugged Cross, I'm sure someone will be chuckling at my faux pas!!!!).
  8. Very difficult, but also a very warming day. As you say, a lovely send off for a big man in so many ways, and someone who had made many people smile over the years. He went out to a recording of the Saints crowd singing Oh When The Saints Go Marching In!!!! Wonderful x I closed my eyes at one point and thought Jack Fleet was going to announce the teams at The Dell, such was the link between his voice and the old ground. Jack mentioned that Pat is in the background of a photo that graces "In That Number". Can't remember the page, but will have a gander tonight when I raise my glass to the dear man. RIP Jack
  9. Steve Grant is in that list of famous players!!!!
  10. A somewhat disconcerting story emerging from the Sunday Times today revealing that the new e-fit (and other evidence) being banded about is actually an old e fit put together by the private investigators hired by the McCanns years ago. It had been suppressed by the McCanns and the Trust due to elements of the report being critical of the McCanns and their friends.
  11. Simply wonderful yesterday. Men against boys or a kickabout down at Staplewood at times. An all round superb performance, with everyone playing their part. As good as the early 80s??? Well not that far off that's for sure. Really enjoying watching this team get better and better. So how has Pochettino got them playing like this??? Great coaching, tactics, fitness, inspiration, motivation or a combination of them all??????
  12. Norm, I will be going along with my dad, so will post up here when I find out.
  13. A truly wonderful bloke and a friend/colleague of my dads for probably best part of 40 years at AC Delcos as they both worked in the wages/finance dept down at Delcos. Dad's quite cut up about it after hearing last night from another old colleague. There was a little group of 5/6 of them who were there for 40 years in the finance team and all mad Saints fans. Worked with Pat when I got my first job down there and saw first hand what a larger than life character he was. Some great stories about Saints and life in general. Still have a Norwich away programme he gave me with the entire squad's and back room teams signatures from the 80s after he travelled back on the same train with them. A real treasure, a true Saint who will be missed by many. cheers Pat
  14. Liam Finnegan, Regents Park way. on Checkatrade and did some quality work at a decent price on my house. all round top guy
  15. Chose well by staying in Manly. That's where we based ourselves and wasn't too difficult getting back in to Sydney CBD (regular ferry, bus or taxi). We actually had a great time in the bars and restaurants lining the front at Manly. Decent mix of people. A few rough and ready pubs, right through to top end bars & restaurants. Over in Sydney as someone else said a walk around the Quays, past the Opera House and in to the wonderful Botanical gardens and along to Macquaries Chair is very pleasant, with great views of the harbour. We got up early one morning and got a tram?? to the fish market somewhere past the casino in Darling Harbour by Anzac Bridge. Shared a bit of breakfast with some local pelican Thought Bondi was awful, so I'd give that a miss (Its a downmarket Manly!!).
  16. Hey, HK Phoey, when did the Barbican close??? Was always a place we'd pop in for a drink and tapas, along with The ExecutiveLounge in Patpong 2 (Exec Lounge was first bar I ever went in many moons ago & was just a tradition to have first drink there every trip). Chatachuk is definitely worth a mention, my only issue was with two days it can be a bit hectic and tiring!!!! Would have said Suan Lum night bazaar as really loved that place and its beer garden, but that's also disappeared!! Have you been to Lek Seafood under Ching Nosi sky train, my favourite seafood place but off between track. With little one now on the scene, think it might be a few years before we get back East!!! Caravans in Devon and more sensible options might have to be the order of the day. I really miss the Sanuk!!!!
  17. Problem here is that its a bit like saying I've got two days in London, what do you recommend?? Such a big place, heat can take it out of you and sometimes travelling across the city can be arduous. DP and others have come up with some decent ideas, and my top places/things would be: Day As Phil says, shopping at MBK A trip around Grand Palace & temple and would suggest a decent tour guide to get the most out of it A couple of hours at Jim Thompsons House, a little oasis in the hustle and bustle Vimanmek teak palace and grounds Agree with a haggled longtail around the canals from Saphan Taksin (I've paid anything from 400 to 1200 baht in total for an hour for 3 or 4 people, probably more nowadays!!!) Night My top tip would be a sunset cruise on the "Loy Nava". Google it, it's an old rice barge that goes up and down the river. Best thing I've done of an evening (honest) Drink at Sky Bar (meal if you're splashing out) or same at Vertigo Great bar near paptpong on Soi Thaniya (Japan st) is The Barbican. Stylish bar with great food amidst a blade runner set! Otherwise DP has mentioned many good places, but I personally don't like cabbages and condoms
  18. What a great find, thanks Lighthouse, first time I've seen that replayed. Still convinced I watched that through the portaloo window in the side/corner of Plough Lane, but that's certainly how I remembered it happening. From our end/side it looked as Fashanu did a cartwheel.
  19. Big Saints fan!!!! An old mate from school who was part of our 1984 FA Cup tour. Used to live up your way Gemmel (off Sandpiper).
  20. Not sure whether it coincided with my age (9-16) during the period from 76-84, or whether it was the relative success (FA Cup, promotion, Europe, League Cup Runners up, Daily Express 5-aside winners!!!, England internationals aplenty), but the teams of that era will always live with me. Front lines that included Ossie, Channon, Boyer, MacDougall, Keegan, Moran, Wallace, etc roll, off the tongue. So as you say, I think the current team(s) and the contributing players will stick around in many people's minds for a long time. And Lambert is probably the stand out amongst them. Someone who has performed in three divisions and the. Gone on to make his England debut, someone whose goals and performances have set the tone (and of course strikers always get the glory). He's "only" been here four years, but think his status must be close to being up there with some of our greats from the past.
  21. Personally found New Orleans disappointing when I visited in Spring 2002. Thought it was a cross between a Theme Park & Cancun on Spring Break. Undoubtedly it has a great history, wonderful architecture and a laid back vibe, but I found the whole place swamped with the corporate, consumer driven, beer chugging chase the $$$ ethos. Seemed to have sold its soul. As FM mentioned, much preferred downtown Memphis (although Beale St might have same problem) and my favourite Nashville. A more country feel, but plenty of blues, jazz and soul as well. Music is big business in Nashville, but it seemed much more natural and wasn't as gawdy or tourist driven.
  22. Top of the list Everton. After that, Reading, Wolves & Blackburn
  23. As a first time parent of less than a year, I'm struggling to see how they could have left those kids alone and unattended. I never want to smother my little un, but the thought of leaving her in a room/apartment at that age, while I go off for a couple of hours is some thing I just couldnt contemplate.
  24. Just drove by someone wearing the shirt, and feck me it really is horrible!
  25. Had a dig around the interweb to try and find out her Soton link and turns out her maternal grandfather ran RAF Calshot and also did something over at Hamble before WWII. He ran the RAF in North Africa supporting Monty, played a major role in D Day and died when the plane he was travelling in disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle!!!
