It's interesting what goes on. A friend of mine is a sports journalist and a Leeds fan. He wrote something for a national paper that gently suggested that a certain Leeds chairman wasn't the world's most altruistic individual. A day later he had this chairman on the phone telling him never to set foot in Elland Road again. I think they all go a bit power mad, and some don't have far to go...

I don't think the whining tone of the echo's stories is helping, but I think the club are in the wrong if they are banning news reporters from press conferences which just happen to be on their premises. If I had paid good money to book a suite at St Mary's to launch something, I'd be a) pretty hacked off and b) reaching for a lawyer, if some of the people I had invited weren't allowed in for reasons that had nothing to do with me. I'd like to think that our chairman was above such pettiness.

Just finished the second of the Stieg Larsson books - 'The Girl Who Played with Fire'. Got really hooked. The first one took a while to get going, but something about the characters reels you in. Anyone got a copy of the third one that they'd like to lend?

Was going through a pile of papers for recycling yesterday, and found the echo's 'pre-season' supplement tucked in the pile. There was a round-up of all the opposition 'players to watch out for' by Gordon Flash Watson, and number one on his list was 'Bristol Rovers striker Richard Lambert'; 'He's as strong as an ox and gets his head in there first at set pieces' (actually, the echo used the wrong 'there', but I've kindly corrected their copy for them to save embarrassment), says Gordon, 'The kind of player that Southampton could do with'. Very prescient, I thought. I'll give Flash more creedence from now on.
