  1. I burst into tears when he scored today. Can't really explain why. Think I was thinking back to that horrible relegation season with Poortvelt, when Lallana, obviously a class act, was getting too easily shoved off the ball and the team was floundering... and now look at him! So brilliant to see someone who's stayed loyal to the club and been right down to the bottom with us, finally get the recognition he deserves. It's the proudest I've felt of a Saints player since Le Tissier.
  2. I've always loved watching him play. I think the closing-down-at-pace that Poch has taught him means that he's that much more involved the whole time now. The Crystal Palace match was the first one I managed to watch live this season and I couldn't believe how much ground he was covering. No wonder he got subbed off at 70mins for the first few matches - must have been knackered.
  3. I can't afford it. Simple as.
  4. My son's football team in Totton have just hosted a Canadian team (two teams came over - u11 and u15) as part of the International Soccer Exchange. There should be some Saints merchandise heading back to Canada on a plane right now. It was a really good experience and the kids and parents made some good friends.
  5. Love all of these, thanks. I was at the Channon v Liverpool goal, and the passing was breath-taking, and the Golac strike v West Brom was amazing. There was also an incredible Steve Williams goal that season (v Norwich?) where he dribbled through most of their side... I still think that for sheer, heart-stopping excitement and disbelief, I'll take Le Tissier's first against Newcastle, where he flicks it over two players' heads then scuffs it in the corner. I just never get tired of watching that goal, and, for me, it's better than the fantastic 'golf-shot' that he hit at Blackburn, even if he prefers that one himself...

  7. Chelsea have several development centres down here, running week-in, week-out. I know because my son goes to one. Excellent coaching. Hope Saints get the benefit of it one day, when all the Chelsea youngsters are released to make room for Abramavich's world-wide signing sprees.
  8. I don't think his distribution is often as bad as made out. He's often the 'out ball' for Boruc, and, against Chelsea for example, I think he pinged it around well. He looked off the pace against West Brom, but so did everyone else, sadly.
  9. I agree with Mr Weah. How anyone didn't enjoy the first half yesterday is absolutely beyond me. If you can't enjoy football, take up golf or taxidermy or something....
  10. My son 'rainbow flicked' Le God last night at training. It's made him quite happy.
  11. I'd think: 'bloody hell, that accountant can't half kick a ball'
  12. Thought they were both immense today.
  13. closely followed by this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzMpdLlbZm0
  14. No. Guly's played well, but Lallana gives us the extra guile, creativity and danger to break defences down.
  15. Guly's miss sounded terrible on the radio, but when I saw it on Match of the Day I thought it was harder than it sounded. The ball came to him at speed and he had no time to adjust. Messi would have scored it, but plenty of others would have done the same as Guly.
  16. But I've already ironed my reindeer one-sy!
  17. My wife's family are all Birmingham City fans and my sister-in-law was extremely upbeat when they lost to Blackpool in the play-off semis last May. She said the same as Kraken - having bounced back and forth between the prem and the championship a few times in recent seasons, the championship's much more enjoyable for most people. You get more games, for a start. The pricing's better. The league's more competitive. You play on a Saturday and midweek for a lot of the season. I put it down to covering up her misery at the time, but I'm starting to think she was telling the truth.
  18. This. And then having to stand and watch loads of people getting hit over the heads by a police baton charge. No fun at all.
  19. Is he going to play in the hole?
  20. Imants Bleidelis. I don't know why, but I used to get quite excited when he was warming up. I thought he was going to be our secret weapon. Think he came on about twice. And touched the ball once.
  21. I'm the tall one - singing and playing guitar. We're still going, but no-one's paid for us to go out to Tokyo for a while!
  22. Proud day - my band's in there twice. Accrington Stanley (exactly). I knew he'd played us, but I'd pessimistically imagined him removing the record from the turntable and chucking it at John Walters each time. I can die happy now....
  23. They showed him briefly on the bbc, and he had empty seats next to him. Having failed to get a ticket, I found this highly galling and immediately began organising a protest. I am pleased to see from the pictures above that he was obviously keeping seats warm for the Liebherr family so I have unchained myself from the Ted Bates statue and cancelled my planned self-immolation. Well done, Mr Cortese.
