OK Team. where are we going wrong?
Red And White Barmy Army replied to Seaford Saint's topic in The Saints
It has nothing to do with schneiderlin or any other individual. If our team's ability without an individiual is still better technically, tactically and physically (which we were against swindon); the only difference is psychological. It's not confidence - we won our last straight 7 home games. The problem is consistency. how do u get that? Have players who want to win cos they like playing football. Psychologists call it task orientation. We have too many ego orientated players (they play to prove they are better than some1 else). There's no problem when they feel they have to prove this (i.e. vs. leeds and norwich) but not so good on a long trip to a crap team in an even crapper town when they don't feel that they have anything to prove; or maybe a midweek game against swindon when they would rather be in oceana than SMS. The reason we have so many ego orientated players is because we offer championship standard players money and they grab it - they are motivated for extrinsic reasons. extrinsic motivation is v closely correlated with ego orientation. The sollution - more academy players and more good league 1 ability players playing for average teams. They should be motivated more intrinsically and fancy a step up. That's the only reason we bought Seabourne IMO. That's the theory any way. That would be my way of structuring the perfect league 1 team on an infinite budget alongside the ego orientated players for the 'big games'. Of course this does ignore problems with squad rotation such as player disatisfaction etc. Tbh though, we should comfortably win the league next year even if it does mean forfeiting half of our away games on crap pitches and 1 in every 8 home games. i'm torn. one part of me says it is premature cos we still haven't re-opened the corners reguarly yet. another part of me wonders whether there's any good reason not to build it now. > the work would reduce capacity for a while i suspect so it would be inconvenient to do this if we were already selling out reguarly (probs 3 years time). > we don't have to open the expanded bits for games that won't sell out so would we lose any money by having it there and just opening it on the 'special' occasions that need a greater capacity. > how are construction costs atm? If these are likely to increase significantly in the future then i think this would tip it for me. Just strikes me as a sensible business move if there are no additional costs incurred by having 10,000+ seats empty on a regular basis. We may even be able to save money here if less security is needed because segregation is easier - maybe i'm clutching at straws now.

Best Atmosphere Ever At SMS?
Red And White Barmy Army replied to View From The Top's topic in The Saints
defos agree. i normally go closer to itchen north but even in itchen south yesterday it was absolutely unbelievable. i can't even compare yesterday to anything i've ever experienced before. dare i say it, but the atmosphere almost made up for the result... i still have a smile on my face today - we have A LOT more to look forward to than they do. Lets see if wembley can match it now. -
Saints Vs MKDons - Post Match Reaction.
Red And White Barmy Army replied to Ponty's topic in The Saints
It might sound daft but could we make history here? - most fans of 1 team ever inside an all-seater english football stadium. If carlisle only sell 10,000, corporate 5,000 = 75,000 saints fans. Unlikely but you never know... -
claim his big sh!tty hat is obscuring the view and his smell is... well obscuring the view.

Guys can I have some help please? I live a few hours away from Southampton now and want tickets for this game more than a fat man wants cake. I can't make the Walsall game but could do another when I'm back in red and white land. But it says on the OS that I can only do this by visiting the ticket office. Have I got this right? Surely there must be a system which will enable me and other saints fans from further afield to get tickets without making the long trip just to pick up a couple of tickets. If not, I'm not going to risk not going to the game, it'll just leave 2 empty seats at the Walsall game (and a bigger whole in my bank account!). Thanks in advance, RAWBA

Why dont we print enough programmes
Red And White Barmy Army replied to ladysaint's topic in The Saints
if u ever take a trip up to the community office then u'll soon see y they dont print as many programmes as they did last year. they have literally thousands lying around - they try to get their coaches to dish em out. couldnt have been very economical and was a serious waste of trees. -
Very worried. Mr Liebherr said he wouldn't buy the club without Cortesse on board. The opportunity to be on a Serie A club's board now is surely going to twist his neck. Bare in mind he would have to wait circa 5 years to gain that sort of reputation in the English game. We know he didn't buy Benali's house, but is he still renting or is he settling? Him leaving so soon would seriously disrupt Mr Liebherr as well as his plans for this club IMHO.

the players must go in2 the game with the psychology of 'just another game'. some of the boys will shrink under the pressure and expectation if they don't. some (not all) of our boys are just not used to and will be afraid of a 'huge local derby' which means as much as the entire season to some fans. the hype is great for a short while, but we shouldn't get carried away. the players need to know it's important so that they're motivated, but pushing a couple over the edge could make our team look like we only have 8/9 players come valentines day.

Saints vs Pompey - Themes, Songs etc.
Red And White Barmy Army replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
There's only one valentine's day massacre, one valentine's day massacre... Pompey's going down with a billion owed to the bank, a billion owed to the bank, a billion owed to the bank, Pompey's going down with a billion owed to the bank, a billion owed to the bank, a billion owed to the bank, they're going dooooown, (every1 hits the deck) they're going dooooown, they're going down, they're going down... -

Jon Otsemobor signed on 6 month contract
Red And White Barmy Army replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
I won't believe he has signed until I see it on the SSN tickertape... -
is it possible that saints have been aware of a possible leak within the club and released this info to a certain some1 to see if it was them doing it?
-
did he play on boxing day? the name rings a bell so must have noticed him somewhere recently.

I think the diamond is an interesting prospect. i havent been to the norwich games but have heard they use it. not sure whether they play narrow or wide but i think we're capable of doing both. pardew certainly seems to like the way they play from what i've heard. i think the 3-6-1 may be possible, although unlikely. we don't hear about it much but Guus Huddink used it in his successful world cup campaigns with South Korea and Australia... -----------------Davis------------------ -------Jaidi------Fonte------Ward------- ----------Stock--------Morgan---------- Antonio---------------------------Waigo ---------Danns---------Lallana---------- ----------------Lambert----------------

thought benali was an ambassador for the community as well now? i can see many reasons for a company beeing banned but very much doubt benali would be.

i didnt think we got one but not sure tbh. could be very lucrative if we did - even 10% is another rickie lambert. as for calling billy davies a git... im left somewhat perplexed. i think he's proven to be alot more than a hoof ball merchant at forest this season and is comfortably one of the best managers outside the premiership. i certainly give him a fair bit of respect.
-
pardew vs keane. interesting result im sure but another nothing game. have we ever been drawn against a mid/lower-premiership team?! all i want is a change of scenary!
-
well, same could be said for us still i suppose. we built sms right in the middle of the city and, despite what people may have thought in the past, we are not a shambolic football club - even less so on the premise that the stadium architect should have stuck to designing woolworths. last post

er. i was asking whether u parked near the ground so mind ur language please. well i used to park by sms in the prem days but now park as grosvernors sq. used to take me at least an hour to get out from near there with a full house if i left after the final whistle. so why r u complaining about paying a fiver for colchester when u do it for saints :s
-
It might not be cricket, but they are doing bloody well with a crap team and crap resources. i would be fine with that in their shoes. a manager's job is to get the best out of his team and, like it or not, football is a business now. u want to watch decent footy then wack sky sports on and sit back with a beer watching arsenal. as for the car park - guess u weren't parked close to SMS on saturday. u want to have the convenience of not walking far then ur gna have an inconvenience on the other hand also. get over it. and they charge a fiver outside SMS also last time i checked. x
