Its strange how so many people still want the club to put out a statement every 5 mins about every rumour that hits the papers. Before the window it was said there will be rumours about our pllayers because they are doing well. It was also said how we are building a team that wants to not only get promoted but also to aim for top 6 Championship next season. The ethos at the club has changed, the way we do business has changed, the direction we are moving has changed. It seems that the whole club can see things are improving and there is a long way to go. Want away Puncheon is back and looking like he is going no-where so I cant see there being any negative changes for a while. If we were still not improving and looking like a mid table team we wouldnt see AOC in the dust of the mas exodus. But we are a team going somewhere and as long as we are getting there quick I cant see any reason for us to bow down to prem rumours every 5 mins. As long as the players buy into what the club are trying to do then I cant see it changing.

Murty was comentating on 5 live sports extra for our game against...... erm... think Blackpool but I forget but he did say he is still with us and has speant the best part of a year being taken care of by our top class medical staff and facilities. He was definately talking like he wants to be part of our club and its future. Could just be talking us up while we carry on trying to fix him but I would rather hear players talk good things about our club. Im sure he also said when AOC came on as a sub that its the last thing the opo's defenders want as he is lightening quick and will cause them problems. Think he was on for a couple of minutes before he 1st broke through and nearly bagged a goal. Could almost hear Murts smiling on the radio. lol
-
Would have been funny if they did but unfortunatly they actually said Arsenal and Manchester City along with AOC's name in full too. Paused and re-wound the telly box several times to make sure I got everything they said word for word and I forgot to go back and change the names.
-
The words WOULD ONLY SELL TO and WANTS TO SELL TO must sound similar to those with the ability to report news to the world!
-
When will the media learn that if they want there readers/viewers to trust and beleive them, they need to report the truth factually and not how ever sounds better in their minds?
-
SSN just said; "Southampton Teenager AOC is the subject of strong interest from Arse and Man City. His manager Nigel Adkins says he only wants to sell the 17 year old striker to a club who will nurture his tallent and help him to develop" Have they just taken the words Adkins said on Saints Player and jumbled them up a little to make a bit of a story and go along with the press? Or has he said that somewhere else?

Last game I went to was brentford at home! So you did better than me

I have no idea what most of the posts on this thread are about but it all sounds very grown up so thought I would add my view too I don't vote cause all the politicians are *****s. They only seem interested in name calling and point scoring. What good does a public banter and slagging match do for our country? If they spent as much time working as they do bit(hing they might actually get something done. The tax system in this country is dreadful. The government skim enough money off us to sort out 3 counties problems yet give it 10 years of 1 party in power and the country is a mess and people want change. Still as long as there is a government system there will be a job for the weedy kids that get picked on at school. If I win big on the euro millions 1 day I'll buy my own country and do things my way.

Premier league youth/reserves are the players any struggling championship teams should be looking to sign while they get there crap in order. Maybe the penny has dropped at last? Well maybe its only half dropped cause the other bit struggling championship teams should be doing is getting rid of the high earners to make room for youth loans and reserves to come through. Still slow burning toast at the mo.
-
Majority may want it but how many actually get it? Theo warmed the Arsenal reserves bench for some time before he made the break through to the 1st team on a regular basis. he left a club that wasnt really going anywhere for a club that is pushing for the top. Would the same decission be made by a kid in the same boat now we are a club that has champions league asperations? It hugley depends on the youth in our squad believing that is where the club is headed and also believing that they will be a part of it once its there. I will be amazed if we turn out more than 1 decent kid a year that can play at the highest level.
-
Our 1st team playing on form might be good enough but over a season and allowing for form dips and injury's I dont think it is. Jaidi struggles to play every game for us now so next season in the championship will be more of a struggle. Are his replacements Championship standard or higher? Both Seaborne and Martin are a little way off that IMO so we could need some cover there. DC is in a similar boat and if he struggles with fitness now he doesnt stand much chance a league above. Punchoeon is good enough but its still unclear if he wants to be here or not. Adkins obviously played him the other day and he now fits in so its looking positive. But to build a team for a top 6 in the NPC aim then there are 2 or 3 players that could need replacing or cover for IMO. Would it be better to try to get them in now or wait to make sure we get promoted 1st?
-
Will the current team get us into the top 6 of the championship next year? (as long as we get promoted this year of course)
-
That kind of thought process saw Poopy fall from grace pretty swiftly. I think we can trust that the money is there and also trust that its there in a way that them down the road could only dream about. As long as its not there on dodgy grounds...
-
I think I would be happy if we just signed Guly long term. But several times its been mentioned that we are building to not only get out of league 1, but to compete for a top 6 in the Championship. Would the current squad do that or is there anyone that would need replacing? RJ in defence is not going to go on forever and its his experience that gets him out of bother in League 1. Is he the answer in a league above or is that a position we should stregnthen?

True which is why I wasnt trying to compare Oxo to Messi. But the idea is there all the same. If Oxo had been found by Barcalona and developed in a setup that is further ahead of our setup then he would still get to the top level producing top form at the same rate as we are aiming for. Barca are at a stage where they are at the top and they can bring through new tallent over 2 or 3 seasons while they sit high up the food chain. We want to bring the tallent through over 2 or 3 seasons while we climb the football food chain in the same period. As long as we are moving up that food chain then we have a possability of competing against the big clubs to keep the tallented youngsters. If at any point we look like we are a club on hold however, the lure of the big clubs will make our decissions for us IMO. As much as the club want to do things in its own way, I agree with you in that every player has a price on his head. But the position we are in I dont think big clubs are willing to go to that figure for some of our brightest tallents. I doubt Cortese will take much notice of £10 million for Oxo as if we get promoted then £10 mill next season will look more like a good deal for the buying club.
-
I don't actually think it matters what is offered. It comes down to cortese and what his vision for the club is. If he see's us in a barcalona type model then the key to our success will be to develop world class players and keep them at the club. I'm not comparing oxo with messi but where would barcalona be had they sold messi the first time someone sniffed about with a wedge of cash? The plan is to create players that make our club great. Not create players for other clubs to win trophies with. Cortese needs to convince these players that this is achievable and great things will happen for the players by sticking with us. If he can do that then the £10 million offers can do one. I'm starting to think there is enough about cortese and co to believe that despite some setbacks, we will reach the levels cortese and Markus had previously discussed. The likes of oxo and lallana will want to get to the big time like any other player. If they think the fastest route is with us then they will stick about.
-
There is something behind what I think they are trying to say. Whilst we can look upon the leagues and see them littered with players that came through our acadamy, we cant exactly say we made the most of our efforts. Many of those players were let go on a free or very cheap. Mainly due to the situation we were in and could not offer them anything better at the time but all the same we didnt get the best out of them all or the best price. Walcott and Bale being the only recent exeptions. Best and Ranger are both playing at Prem level now and we got not allot for them. We got some cash for a few of the others but nothing to right home about. Where the blew few fall down however is that all these players that have got us through the past few years have meant that we were in a pretty crappy position needing help. We were still able to attract Markus along and were in a far better position to move forward. Them down the road with there couple of trophies and a few years higher up the food chain than us find themselves with no assets that anyone wants and no viable way forward. The ballance will be restored and in 10 years time the kids down that way will be suprised to find out that there once was a football team that competed in the top flight just a short time ago. How they will enjoy there cup success then?
-
LMAO that is just too funny!!! My what an attractive look. LOL
-
I'm surprised SC hasn't used Tom as a scape goat and blamed the result on having to play the kids that are not good enough! Seem to remember Harry using that excuse when he through the youth on for a televised FA Cup match we had. Think he played more than 1 though and didn't seem to give them much direction at the time maybe to prove his own point.
-
Maybe they should have taken this game more seriously and played a full strength side against the league 1 minnows that are obviously beneath them!! Lol

Saints 2 - 0 Blackpool - Post match reaction
saintjay77 replied to Yorkshire Saint's topic in The Saints
Hard to say if the fa cup run is a good thing or not when our primary concern is to get out of league 1. But that one game should do wonders for the confidence and feel good factor throughout the club so can only be a good thing. Get in!!! And Pompey lost to another south coast club to make our day even better! -
Debt Paying for players you couldnt afford Paying for a team sheet while flicking the V's to HMRC Keeping Charity money collected by the fans Take your pick, im sure there are plenty more reasons that can be pointed out but I dont want to keep going round in circles. The fact is there have been plenty of opertunities where your club could have made changes that actually moved towards getting yourselves out of trouble. But every time an opertunite presents its self your club flicks the V's once more. Lawrence and Kitson is a prime example. You had a chance to get rid of one player and had the choice of either money or 2 expensive players. If you had 40k per week available for wages why didnt your club take the money for the player (could have gone towards servicing the CVA) and look for 5 or 6 - 7K per week free transfers to fill the missing places in your squad? You mention the likes of Utaka being hard to shift and I do agree. But it was your club (Storie) that brought them in on silly wages and contracts that you had to honour. Or was that the PL's fault too? Mero and Mac manage to come on here with dignaty and banter supporting your's and their club all the way to the end if need be, while appreciating that they are lucky to be where they are and accepting the club havent been entirely honest in how it got here. How come you still think its not the clubs fault and that everyone else should just forgive and forget? How come there are more of your fans that think the same than the ones who actually see how things really are? Actually the dwindling numbers suggests there are more of your clubs fans that choose to support it in the way that it deserves. Im sure if things start being done right and a way out of the ruins can be formed then the seats will be filled once more. Any sight of that on the horizon?
-
So you think its OK for a club to completly take the P**s out of every other club in the league continually for a couple of years then when it all goes arse up everyone should help that club out of the crap it put its self in with no regard as to who was shafted in the mean time? If it were us that stooped so low you would be all over it like your mums rash. x
-
I think it would have done us a favour had we drawn a team that would respectfully knock us out at this stage. Getting knocked out by Arsenal or Man City wouldnt have dented too many ego's or knocked too much confidence and we could have carried on concentrating on the league. As it is Blackpool at home on paper seems fairly winnable with all things considered. The team wont want to lose a winnable game as that could have a knock on effect for a few other games coming up, but adding another tough game to the already full calendar by winning might not do us too many favours either. Without actually wanting to see us lose it might be good to control the game and get beaten last min by a dodgy penalty would see a good day out and a good attitude to take into tuesday maybe.

The buggers have changed it!! Lol
