I liked it. Not many situations that kind of action can be acceptable.

Christ on a bike I have agreed with Turkish today and now find myself ageeing with you!!!! You 2 had you back doors smashed in by the london rioters and now chosen an outlook that is more agreable or something?

Agree with this. I actually find it insulting that a player has been with us from 9 years old can disrespect the club by airing his views in the press. Im glad that our chairman believes things should be done in a certain way that puts the club first. Having the best academy will hopefully attract the best kids as they think the club will do its best for them. They should at least have the decency to make sure they do right by the club while they are here.

Depending on the circumstances I think its a valid reason not to go. In my case My old man is in his 60's and would of been in charge of 3 kids who are a boy who is 8 and 2 girls who are 10 and 13. Going on what he had heard he made a decission that he thought was best for the kids. It wasnt a big game or anything so it wasnt a difficult decission and the rumours just about tipped the decission. Had the kids not been there I am pretty sure he wouldnt of gone anyway as he tends to stay away from early rounds of cup matches. Had it been a later round and the kids not there and these rumours were about and with the problems in other city's I am sure he would of gone anyway. Just in this case there were too many variables that added up to it not being worth it. I wonder how many people would of half thought about going but were on the fence due to price, oposition and so on? Only to start hearing rumours about trouble when they were un-sure already. I doubt there are many if any at all that were dead cert to go but changed there minds in case of trouble. If there are any in that bracket then I agree with your discription of them.

Stand corrected. I just presumed they had the 4. Remember reading it last night but didnt pay that much attention. I do hope someone at the FA/FL is taking notice of how many people they actually have on their books so they can flick the V's at them when they cry about not having enough players to fill the bench. I know I am living in a dream land to think that will actualy happen but still.

TBF there was rumours flying around yesterday of it all being about to kick off in Southampton. My kids are with my dad this week back home and im sure he was going to take them all last night and also my sis was going to take them into town during the day. She had a couple of texts to say about the rumours so stayed at home with them. Im pretty sure my dad would of not gone to the match with them just in case the rumours were true. This game would of had low numbers anyway but the rumours would of defo made decissions for some.

They were aloud 7 subs last night and they named 4. No sign of any youth but dont think they actually have a youth squad right now. Maybe a few youth players though. Im sure they used some youth in the pre-season so it seems strange that they dont at least give them a place on the bench in these times. Every other manager is questioning the reduced subs for league matches as it makes it harder to bring youth through to the 1st team. Pompey have a golden opertunity to get one step ahead of the rest of the league on that count but choose not to take it.

If Carlsberg did Pompey........

At least it's done now and we can get on with concentrating on the things we should be concentrating on. Think he will need a loan out to champ level for at least half a season before he is ready for a chance at prem level but for his bank balance this is prob the best move for him now. Good luck to him but I hope we can continue on to Prem and get there before he does

We were actually top of the league for a while. Same scoreline as Ipswich but the sky table had us on top. Think Trousers even put a pic up on the match day thread.

The difference is of course, Torres is a world class player already so Chelsea will keep giving him game time until he finds his form or they decide to sell him. They wont bung him in the reserves for a season or 2 while he progresses. Theo, Bale and Chambo are/were at the other end of the scale, they have the potential to be world class but have allot of learning to do before they get there. For financial reasons they will take the step up as soon as it is offered and will happily sit in the reserves until they are ready to break into the 1st team or fall away when they dont make it. Pennant is another good example, he is actually a really good player but just not quite good enough for Arsenal's 1st team. He has spent years struggling to fit in somewhere and get the best football out of his ability. He is one I would say that went to Arsenal and stalled which probably damaged his over all carreer. No-one knows if the decission they make is the right one until later. Financially all of the above have made the right moves as they probably dont want for anything. For footballing reasons I think its fair to say that Theo, Bale and Pennant could of benifitted from more 1st team football earlier on but it is pretty impossible to gauge. Money is the main focus to most people and it will always come before footballing reasons IMO.

£4m swoop for Burnley duo Rodriguez and Fox?
saintjay77 replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
You could be right, think I am more worried due to the previous transfer activity in days gone by. We always seemed quite happy to bring people in for problem positions without shifting on those that were not good enough. If we bring in another left back and cant shift Harding, Dickson, Fish and Reeves our squad will look odd and no doubt there will be a few players not so happy on the bus. -
IMO Bale benifitted from being with us for that little bit longer. He got more games under his belt at Championship level and although he did stall at Spuds for a season he has gone on to be a better player than Theo. Not many players go to a new team and become amazing from the start and often they lose their form for some time. Torres is a bloody good player but has trouble finding the net for Chelsea. As long as they keep playing him then he will come good. If he doesnt get pitch time he will stall. So this Stalling business is not limited to ex saints but its not to be ignored either. Chambo for footballing reasons should be looking for a move to a top club at the time when he warrents walking into there 1st team and being given the pitch time to find his feet allowing for a dip in form. IMO Theo needed that extra time in the Championship to raise his game enough so he could move to a top club and be fighting for a 1st team slot. As he left early IMO he was not close enough to the 1st team which meant he had at least 1 season missing out on vital 1st team action. Unfortunatly its not down to the players when they move. If Arsenal come knocking now the player may see it as his best chance of making that step to the bigger club. He doesnt know what will happen next week or next season. He might get injured or fall out with team mates or the club and not get game time here. Theo left too early because thats when Arsenal came knocking, Bale left a little too early because thats when Spuds came knocking and we needed cash badly, Oxo will leave too early because Arsenal have come knocking again. Until we can offer contracts and wages that compete with some of the big clubs we run the risk of losing our best tallent when bigger clubs come knocking. In 5 years time we may just about be able to start competeing with what biger clubs can offer. At which point it wont be as much about the money but more about what a player can win with us or with someone else. And all of that is only if we continue the rise that is being attempted. Plenty more pot holes could get in the way.

They seem to replace their best players with youth who hope that one day they will become the next best players. Slowly but surely the top class tallent at that club is getting less and less. If we were putting together a World team each year Arsenal would struggle to offer a current player right now. Previous years would of had players that would of walked into a world team. If the likes of Berkamp and Henry were in the team I could understand youth wanting to train along side them. Theo thought he would be learning from Henry who then left for Barca. Chambo no doubt would love to train along side Theo, Nasri and Fabregas who are all pretty good but 2 of the 3 possibly have exit plans and the 3rd can be found more often in the treatment room. So who is Chambo going to be learning from then? So to me it just looks like its £££ talking which is fair enough. If I was offered a stupid ammount of money to do the same job somewhere else I would be a fool not to consider it. I would argue that Chambo is already earning a stupid amount of money compared to most of us which makes it a little harder for us to understand. If he was to stay with us it wouldnt surprise me if his next contract would pay him each week what most of us earn in a year yet he would be moveing to Arsenal to earn even more! Still nothing is on the OS yet so until it is then its all just speculation. While he is a saint he gets my full support. If he goes then good luck to him but I hope our team pass him on our way up and he has some regret in chasing the cash.

I bet a girl at work that we will win the champions league before Arsenal will. Pretty safe bet I reckon, cause Arsenal wont get anywhere near it as long as they continue with their transfer policy and the way they play.

Had a look on the spuds site and they seem to have direct quotes from him regarding the game and so on so guess he was there. Bit weird for him to not be at an interview in front of camera's and things though.

True, we have always been a club that made the most out of the youth. But the similarities are there all the same. Doesn't make the 2 men the same or even thought about in the same way. I do wonder what lowe would of done had he been in complete control (no board of directors voting or other shareholders wanting power) and with the funds behind us so he didn't have to sell. But more than happy that we will never know.

Watched on tv. We're coming for you did get sung a fair bit and seemed to stand out on tv. Thinking about it though I did here plenty of other songs. Can't say I remember hearing OWTS but would be surprised if it wasn't sung. Didn't we sing another version of we're coming for you aimed at the Leeds fans? Get out of our home or something? Watched the west ham game today and upton park sounded more like a car park and had hardly any atmosphere most of the match. Much preferred our support and singing.

Agree with most of the suggested teams so far. Think doble may get a run out too though. Torquay will be a tough game though so it will still be a good test for who ever gets the nod. I also think we are one of around 10 teams that are aiming for top 6. The teams that are there or there abouts around Xmas will be the ones that start aiming for the automatic slots with the mid table teams making a push for play-offs. The way Sven has spent I would say they are the only team that will be seriously aiming for automatic from the off. Still think they are in the hat with about 4 other teams that could take those spots though so Sven could be on dodgy ground come the end of the season. If we can perform like yesterday throughout the season top 6 is well within our reach. Not sure we can keep up the momentum so won't be too miffed if we miss out this year.

this guy?

If OXO stays IMO he has until January to prove to Arsenal that he is worth stumping up the cash. Ball is in their court and has been for ages. If Oxo really wants the move he needs to prove he is worth the money. Win Win for us. Either he stays and plays his best or he goes for a shed load of cash. In the mean time Adkins wont talk about it when there is a squad of players that just played as a team and won as a team and took the 1st step into a long and hard championship season.

Was Harry at the spuds game v athetico bilbao? Noticed it was Jordon who gave the interview after and there was no mention of Harry. He is not usually shy in front of the camera's so wondering why he didnt do the interview himself or if he was even at the game.
