thats probably the best argument I have seen on here against Rupes. Cant see who we would turn to if he left as there is no-one associated with our club that can seem to do a half decent job or does not have an army of people ready to see them hang. I still hope that the people at our club can do well enough to get people interested in us enough to buy us out right.

Very good point. Unfortunatly as Lowe is not liked because of all sorts of reasons then nothing he suggests will be accepted as a good thing for our club. This thread has pointed out that the Stadium is no good and we would have been better off by not ever having it, we should never have played the youth so Theo and bale would have gone on the cheap somewhere else while we carried on with the has beens that got us oh so far. If the mystical Paul Allen came in and suggested the very same things I wonder what reception he would have got?

If I am the boss of a football club and I want my team to be young and play passing football I will ask my managers to go and provide it. If they cant I will get someone else in that can and I will keep going until I have either had success or had enough. I still need to make my club attractive and worth something or I will never see a return on my investment. If that is the guidlines that Lowe is working from then there relly isnt much different than any other football chairman in the country. And any ex manager will say how things should be done differently and so on. my post earlier mentioned arsenal and chelsea and man u who all have managers and boards that are trying to move in the same direction. How long that will last at chelsea is anyones guess but the managers are providing what the board wants with what is available to them. How long would Scolari last if he benched all his top players in favour of going youth because he thought it was the right thing to do? if wenger went to his board and told them that the youth set up is kak so I want to buy a team of super stars so open your cheque books how much would they allow him to spend? bassets comments are nothing more than telling us how rupes wants the club to move forward. tactics were not mentioned, who should play where wasnt mentioned and formations wernt mentioned. that doesnt mean thats not what he was trying to say but just looking at the facts and what was said there isnt really that much to go on. And lets be honest.... How many of us wanted Basset and his style of management here? I know he has been there and done it got results but his style was probably 1 of the last things we really wanted here. Our defence was shocking then and it is still the same now but I would much rather watch us play like we have been doing than when Basset was here.

JP's teams in the past before he was even thought about at SMS were made up of youth playing fast passing football. Maybe Lowe got him because he was the type of manager that would take the club in the direction that the board wanted to go? If JP was more like pearson before he came here then changed I would agree with you. But he aint doing anything he wasnt doing before he even met Lowe.

To be fair there has always been conflict at pretty much every club between the board/chairman who want the club run in a certain way but are not football people and the managment who are football people and believe clubs should be run there way. the succesfull clubs are the ones where the board and management are all thinking along the same lines. Man U and chelsea believe they need to buy the best players to make the best team, Arsenal believe they need to bring in the best youngsters to make the best team. if any of there boards decide things should be done differentdy you can bet your house on there being a change of managment to suit.

As much as I would like to see Rupes walk I would still rather look for someone to come in and do better. But to date there hasnt been anyone unfortunatly.

I think it was a sensible post to a point as any ex employee is likly to have an axe to grind so at least some caution should be taken when hearing it. The good thing about this is that someone has gone public with there thoughts. I wouldnt say it is a FACT like some others are saying just yet but its pretty daming all the same. Will be interesting to see what Rupes come back is or if Basset will rephraze his comments at some point. Trying to play devils advocate would this experiment have worked better when we still had the parachute payments to afford the right experience? Ruperts plan may have been to cut loose some of the drift wood and build with youth and experience back then when we had some of the best youngsters in the country. Harry and Basset didnt want to take that route so the whole club are in catch 22 from what the board want to do compared to the management. Keegan is not a bad manager but he didnt like what whats his face was doing so he left and they supoposedly have money to spend.

Jan Poortvliet concerned about poor St Mary's record

I dont see how Lowe is making him play a certain way TBH. His teams in the lower reaches of Holand have all been the same formation. Its what he believes in and its how he thinks the game should be played. I am more worried that he didnt see Wooton playing hoofball as being the main reason the system didnt work on sat. The system didnt change too much when wooton went off, it just had different tactics which led to more opertunities. -
Think JP has taken him off when he has picked up an injury. when ever he has been subbed he has always missed the following game or 2. would be nice to know why he wasnt playing on sat as hoofball wooton is not a good enough replacment.

Seems that way at the mo although I dont think we will be 1 of the 3 worst teams this season but like i said in another post, if we didnt have some promising kids at the club we wouldnt have gone for this youth "experiment" and would have opted for Administration a while ago. At least this way we are trying to avoid relegation. Can you imagine trying to do it with a 10 - 15 point deduction and all our better players sold?
-
LOL gotta laugh. Where is the money going to come from to get rid of JP? Where is the money going to come from to get in Dowie? Would getting Dowie mean we would have to get rid of the entire bacroom staff and start again? Would Dowie do any better with the current squad? If we found some money by January would that not go straight to the bank or would they be happy that we are spending more money that we dont have? Dont get me wrong as I would love to have known staff at the club and players that I know can do a job at the highest level and also would love to see us back in the top flight. But im looking at our club and just cant see it happening so I try to look for how we can improve what we have rather than complain that are club is not doing the impossible.
-
If we didnt have a good youth set up then I think we wouldnt have gone down this route. We would have just gone for administration and sold off any saleable assets and have a look at where we end up then try to build. This route might work or it might not but what we need to do compared to what the bank will let us do are 2 different things so we seem to be pretty stuck. If it doesnt work out then at least we tried everything to avoid administration. If it does work then we could do very well out of it. Im still for giving it a shot. Not all of the players signed have been poor but unfortunatly the good ones are unjured at the mo. not all of the players we let go could help us in this system that is being used. Not all decissions the manager makes will be the right decissions but I can see him being cut more slack than he should based on not enough funds to replace him. I like some of the things he has done but others I think he needs a wake up call. Just hope that calls comes sooner rather than later.

can we do enough to stay afloat until then though?
-
---------Davis------------ Cork--Olly--Pearce--Skacel -------Gillett--Morgan----- Thomson-----------Surman -----------Lallana--------- ----------Euell------------ would be my choice but if Morgan is not available I would put surman there and bring in gobern on the left wing.
-
Not seen Pulis yet so bit unfair to judge him but in all honesty I dont expect him to make any difference especially in keeping with the style we are trying to play. Pekhart has only had a few opertunities from the subs bench late in the game really so although not setting the world alight again its not that fair to judge him either. Smith I think has dont OK when he has played and given a bit more time to settle he could do pretty good. Cant see him playing ahead of Holmes when fit though. I would rather see the team play the right tactics based on the formation they play then see the formation change each week but the odd 4-4-2 wouldnt go a miss.
-
you have a point there. i would rather see this team learn and struggle than watch last seasons shower of sh1te under perform week in week out.
-
Cant argue with any of that. I was just trying to think of a reason that JP put him in the team and having 2 kids at CB was my best guess. His use to the squad is due to his experience and if he can encourage the kids with a bit of leadership then all is good. I agree that he cant teach them much as his style and ability is all league 1 but he should be able to encourage them pretty well. Bit of a risk playing Olly and pearce at the back with surman or morgan being the king pin in front of them as defensivly we would be very very week but if that is the key position then its very important that we get that position right week in week out. I am quite excited at the thought that this squad will at some point feild the right mix of players and all will fall into place which will turn into us giving someone a royal spanking. the worry is that we will find this magical moment by pure fluke rather than the tactical genius within our club.
-
I think Wooten adds some experience and is a good older head to have around but would do better giving encouragment to the kids in the changing room or along the touch line. I like the system and want it to work but if we dont choose the right players the system looks arse. Seems to me that the decisive player in midfeild should be Morgan or surman who bring the ball out and play the wingers and forwards in. Euell or lallana in the whole combine with Mcgoldrick quite well and we have a good mix of kids that get down the wings well. our full backs also get forward well so going forwards with the right people in the team we can get on with doing what is told. Tonight wooten pulled rank on surman I thought and tried to be the one that played everyone else in but all he did was give mcgoldrick too much to do and everyone else just followed suit. JP played wooten for some reason though and given that euell was on the bench and our CB's were kids it was probably to add that bit of experience at the back. He just aint good enough in this system. He came here with a reputation of a free kick specialist but I havnt seen him take one yet.
-
There defence coped to easily because of the balls up to Mcgoldrick. Hoof ball from Wooton doesnt give the quick passing kids a hope in hell. Looked allot better after he went off but not enough time to make a difference.
-
Disapointed as I thought we can do better. Really miss Morgan in the middle as Wooton just looks to play long balls to no-where. Where was Morgan anyway? Not sure why Thomson got taken off as he was the only person who got anywhere near the by-line in the 1st half. Gobern looked lost at times but then so did all our players. moments when they looked like they would rip through bristol would end up with no-one knowing where they were going so it came to nothing far too often. Looked better once Wooton went off as Surman took Morgan's role in bringing the ball forward and spreading it to the wings. If that had been the case from the start then things could have been different. The system that JP is trying to use works when we have the right players but when we dont it looks arse.

good to hear. its not like I expect them to have all the answers but if they got all politician like then it would be something to worry about. might be worth them organising a few more little events like this in the future as it certanly builds a raport with the fans.

I wasa gona ask if any questions were deflected or if they answered everything that was asked?

TBF this has to be one of the best ways of looking at things lol
