  1. We still have two Polish strikers who might do alright in League 1 should they decide to stay on their large wages. There's also White and Paterson who are still to be properly tested in league football.
  2. The club is skint and cannot pay the wages. That's how it is. Despite all the rhetoric of Pinnacle and the other consortia, there is no money coming in until the takeover is complete and the club cannot run the risk of losing all the players. The McGoldrick money should provide a stay of execution until takeover day and the club starts selling season tickets.
  3. It would be perverse in the extreme were The Football League to apply an extra 15 point penalty for SLH getting a CVA but not SFC. Their own forensic accountants said the two companies are inextricably linked so they would have to accept a CVA for SLH as being a CVA for SFC.
  4. Replacing football with speedball eh ? Sounds a fair compromise.
  5. As a lay person, I find that interesting As far as I know, each team has to reapply for a licence every season. This would force all the teams to abide by any new rules laid down by the football league before the licence was renewed.
  6. You just don't see that level of irony on this forum too often
  7. That seems like a very ambiguous clause to me. Is it for the appellant to prove that the circumstances were unforeseen and unavoidable or for the League to prove that it was foreseen or avoidable ? In our case, our fate was seemingly set by an arbitrary decision made by a bank that, up to that point, had supported SLH while it attempted to lower it's overdraft. I think it could be argued that the board could not have foreseen that the bank would stop supporting it when it did and it was certainly unavoidable. However, the League would probably counter with the idea that the previous season's overspend, leading to an unsupportable overdraft, made administration something that was foreseen by everyone. That it was unavoidable is rendered moot by the "and" in the clause.
  8. Surely one of the requisites of the "fit and proper" persons test is the agreement to abide by the rules of the governing association. Clearly, that rule is being broken before Pinnacle have even bought the club from SLH. As the Luton Town owners found out to their cost, it can also mean accepting vicarious liability for previous owners' financial mismanagement.
  9. Obviously MLT isn't considered a "fit and proper" director. He was never fit even when he was a player
  10. It's not a surprise. Stock market rules would state that, since SLH is still a listed PLC (albeit in administration), any news regarding it's trading status would have to be announced to the Stock Exchange before any other news source.
  11. It's a shame. Would rather we played away as it would be good to start the season with some points.
  12. I think he's alluding to the beating he got from some baseball-bat wielding men when he was "sleeping" in his Land Rover in a lay-by in Reigate back in the early 90s. There were lots of rumours at the time about what he was actually doing in that particular lay-by considering it was notorious in the area for what is now known as "dogging".
  13. He spent a fortune at Fulham. When they knocked us out of both cup competitions, their squad cost more in transfer fees than ours. For instance, Chris Coleman cost over £2m and Paul Peschisolido cost over £1m. Even 12 years later, those kind of fees are unheard of in the 3rd tier. I just don't see any new owner wanting to commit that kind of money when we're starting with a 10 point handicap in a competitive league that also contains Leeds, Charlton and Norwich.
  14. Of course he's back at the club. His contract does not expire for a few days so he's still an employee and needs to start regaining his fitness. I think it might be in both parties' best interests for him to leave however. He deserves to join a Championship team on last season's form and we would probably do just as well with a big lump in goal on a fraction of his wages.
  15. Not yet but the "Lynam Up" T-Shirts should be available in the club shop by Saturday
  16. I find their lack of community spirit a bit odd since most of their imported players live in Whiteley and they have a store in Fareham's shopping centre so the players would only need to travel a couple of miles to turn up at a Fareham club or even sign a shirt to be given away.
  17. It's the most satirical (and cutting) headline I've ever seen on the OS. Saganowski is spectacularly good at missing the target by inches. It's a surprise when a shot actually goes on target. Indeed, his goals to shots-on-target ratio is pretty decent
  18. It's not that useful. Because of our nickname, we often get our news bundled with that of Saint Mirren, Saint Johntone, Saint Patricks, the Saint Helens rugby league and Northampton rugby union teams and there are occasional bonus snippets of news about US collegiate teams in New England. Enjoy
  19. Any away game will do as we win at home on the first day of the season. Somewhere like Brentford would be a nice introduction to League 1 football.
  20. What about the players we lost to knee problems in quick succession ? John Beresford, David Hirst and David Howells all had to retire within months of each other. These were all not long after David Hughes had to give up professional football with knee problems. Admittedly, losing Howells probably improved the team but Beresford was still a very decent defender and Hirst was always a very good striker when fit and scored some crucial goals for us. It seemed to be a South coast curse at the time as our friends in East Hampshire had exactly the same problems with their players.
  21. Do you see now ? Beckford cost Leeds £45k. Lambert cost Bristol Rovers £200k and Cox cost Swindon £200k. Together that's £445k. None of those players are going to join us but they are indicative of the kinds of signings that are available every year if you know where to look.
  22. You're doing a great job of agitating on this thread. We all know you couldn't get all 3 for £1m. You may get Beckford as he's got the baggage of some questionable behaviour at Leeds to carry with him. The fact is that these players cost their respective clubs what would have been considered peanuts to us just last season and have scored a large number of goals in League 1. Peterborough paid a grand total of £500k for their 3 best players, all from the conference and they will probably be good in the Championship. That's not to mention Michael Kightly at Wolves who went from the Conference to the Championship (and now the Premier League) without looking out of place. In previous years, players like Geoff Horsfield and Barry Hayles have played in the Premiership after playing in the Conference or lower and Steve Finnan has played in every league from the Conference to the Premier League and has won the UEFA Cup and Champions League. What Arizona is trying to get at is that players of the quality of Beckford, Cox and Lambert are available in reserve teams higher up the leagues and in the first teams lower down the league structure. Unfortunately, we are not in the position of being able to offer contracts to players at the moment so all the best players may have gone by the time we enter the market. Indeed, one of the most likely candidates for success, Steve Morison, has already signed for Millwall from Stevenage.
  23. McGoldrick obviously doesn't have the physical presence of Shearer or Beattie but his goals-to-games ratio is similar to theirs at the same age. Shearer scored 4 in 36 league games as a 20 year old and then scored 13 in 41 as a 21 year old. James Beattie's scored 5 in 35 as a 19-20 year old and 11 in 37 as a 21-22 year old. I'm not saying McGoldrick is ever going to be as good as either player but that doesn't mean he won't become a decent player at a good level. At the moment, he's probably worth £1m for his potential but we'd want a decent sell-on clause if he left.
  24. The short answer is that SFC hasn't been able to sell season tickets yet. Basically, the company needs operating capital. Currently, SLH has the remainder of the money invested by Pinnacle and no more coming in. Typically, it would be sitting on £2m+ of early season ticket payments by now so the relatively income-free summer months would be covered. Going into administration so late in the season has affected the cash-flow very badly so the club has no choice but to realise some assets in order to continue making payments to players and staff. Once a takeover happens, season tickets will be made available and the club will have an income stream leading to operating capital again and the finances will settle pretty quickly.
  25. In general, if no monies are owing to a party, they aren't a creditor and thus have no input into whether a CVA would be awarded. However, HMRC are slightly different as it's almost impossible for a company not to be in debt to them. By the time your payment has cleared, you owe them more money for PAYE, National Insurance and VAT. That said, I'm sure they'd offer no objection if our payments were considered up-to-date.
