  1. Unfortunately photography had not been invented when that place was built.
  2. As he is a professional writer (in the sense that he is paid to write) I am surprised that he has no grasp of English grammar or punctuation.
  3. I remember that match only too well. We were anticipating a good season but started with a home defeat to Plymouth and then a home draw with Leyton Orient (a day or so after Marcus dies). After that Rochdale defeat I don't think anyone would have thought that we would get automatic promotion that season. Incidentally does anyone remember who Garrod was - he was named as one of our subs for that match.
  4. This one came completely out of leftfield. Whichever players left I thought that Ricky would still be here next season, along with Steven Davis, Artur and Jose. I have not felt so gutted since Mike Channon left. Having said that, if the board thought that allowing him to join his boyhood club was seen as a reward for everything he has done for SFC then so be it. Thanks Rickie and the very best of luck at Liverpool. I look forward to seeing you at St Mary's next season. Hopefully the Board know what they are doing and have some masterplan in place. I am not holding my breath though. It could be Gallagher and Billy Sharp up front next season.
  5. I had serious doubts about renewing but mainly because of my round trip of nearly 400 miles for each home game and the fact that I although I have supported Saints for 50 years I am not getting any younger. However, you do not give up something that has been so much a part of your life for so long. I renewed yesterday. What is happening with the manager, players and press speculation should never be part of the question of renewing for a true supporter.
  6. He did so at Old Trafford earlier in the season
  7. The value of players is never shown as an asset in the accounts of football clubs although the liability for the transfers fees is. Expenditure (and income) on player transfer fees are treated as revenue income and expenditure. In other words, we have a 'hidden' asset of the value of the playing staff in the transfer market which is not shown on the balance sheet. As others have pointed out, spreading transfer fees over a number of seasons is common practice. The sensationalism that the press attach to these figures is unreal.
  8. Gerry Gurr had, after a nervous start, the makings of a brilliant keeper but suffered an injury from which he never fully recovered. He ended up playing I think for Aldershot before retiring early and taking up a career in music.
  9. While I believe that Kruegar's comments are positive and they imply that he is going to be very hands on, I am a little confused. According to the BBC report, Gareth Rogers remains acting CEO of the parent company. Does this mean that we are also trying to recruit a CEO? If so, what will their role be and will it clash with that of Kruegar? My confusion is compounded by the fact that Les Reed is shown as a director of the Parent Company - not of the football club.
  10. Leaving about 12 for the short trip to West Brom. Last time I went there was when Prutton missed that open goal. Hope for better things today but not entirely confident. A 2-1 loss I predict.
  11. Always had a soft spot for Cov. Signed with pleasure and really hope things work out for them.
  12. It does worry me that none of them have played or worked in England and despite their 'research' will have little knowledge of the premier league.
  13. Thanks Nigel. Really enjoyed your tenure. We will have to relegated twice to experience back to back promotions again!!! Could now happen. Our loss will be another club's gain.
  14. Congrats Billy and Jade.
  15. Butland in fact played for Cheltenham last season, not Shrewsbury.
  16. I was also quite excited by this double signing. I was sure that Prutton would go on to become an England regular. He must rank as one of the most disappointing signings ever (that Liverpool game apart). I was also quite excited by the Anders Svensson signing. A player cruelly misused by Saints.
  17. With Tommy in the last year of his contract its goodbye Tommy then!
  18. Happy Birthday Ron. Loved watching you play. The 4 goals at Chelsea stick in my mind together with a great headed goal against Wolves at The Dell. It went in like a rocket - one of the best goals I have ever seen. Thanks for the memory Ron.
  19. I dont think he would give us the Edge though.
  20. I cant see wholesale changes with the emphasis on youth. The Dutch Duo tried that with catastrophic results. What I think we will see is the gradual integration of some of the more promising youth team players - JWP, Hoskins, Sinclair, Stephens, Shaw and possibly Reeves and Moore utilising the 7 subs rule. Some may become regulars as the season goes on.
  21. Love it!! Saw this performed live a few years ago at NEC.
  22. Just leaving my home in Shrewsbury. Picking up my grand-daughter in Ringwood and then meeting my son and friends for a drink at The Guide Dog.
  23. Thoughts are with him and his family.
  24. Aged 64 now living in Shrewsbury but was brought up in Alresford. Not really interested in football as a young lad but was persuaded to go to a match by some friends from Southampton Tech which I was attending on day release at the time. First home match Leyton Orient 1964 Drew 2-2. First away match Palace 1965 won 2-1.
  25. If they had a bucket collection at St Marys to help save PFC -as they have done for other clubs in the past - would anyone contribute? Whilst not in any way condoning the methods used by the PFC board in the past to achieve 'success' , I would not like to see any football club disappear and would rather support the BEST club in Hampshire rather than the ONLY club in Hampshire (with all due respect to Aldershot). Every club - including ours - has its moronic supporters but I feel sorry for the ordinary fan - just like the majority of our fans - who just want to go and watch the team they have supported for x number of years.
