  1. I remember it well - I was standing on the Milton terrace. The goal was in the last few minutes I seem to remember. Charlton came for a point and we really struggled to break them down. Happy days!
  2. Going to be a wet drive down for us long distance fans - but I am sure it will be worth it!
  3. I have been impressed with what little I have seen of Hesketh, but what do I know? If we can get money for him sell him and all the other members of the Under 21 side except of course Golden Boy Targett. Sarcasm apart, I feel that Koeman's comments last week, particularly in view of the way that the first team are so underperforming were totally out of order and that he may well have irretrievably damaged his reputation in the eyes of many fans, myself included. It is one thing for a manager to feel that way, it is a totally different matter to make a public comment on the subject.
  4. Worked well with Osvaldo
  5. Happy Christmas to all from Darkest Shropshire
  6. Cant see Spurs paying a lot of money him with the emergence of Alli and the re-invention of Dier as a DM. Dembele is playing well for them and with Eriksen playing as a No 10 they have a strong midfield with options. Ryan Mason, has been injured and can't get back into their side now that he is fit.
  7. A did not think that the performance was as bad as some on here would have you believe. Ok we missed a hatful of chances which on another day would have gone in. Having said that, there is certainly some of the zip missing from our game at the moment. I thought that the subs did OK but was disappointed in the performance of JWP. I have long been a fan of JWP but I thought that he wandered around looking unsure of his role and without imposing himself on the game and contributed very little apart from the corner from which we equalised. A word of praise to the referee Anthony Taylor who I thought had a excellent game - the best we have seen at St Marys this season.
  8. To be fair to Alan McCloughlin, he was played out of position on the left wing by Chris Nicol (he made his name as an attacking central midfielder with swindon) and was never given a chance by Branfoot. I believe that he went on to have a successful career somewhere else.
  9. Aldershot. Back in the 1960's I used to work in Alton and used to go to Aldershot mid week (and some Saturday) games. Ex Saints Jimmy Melia, John Sydenham and Gerry Gurr played there for a while at that time.
  10. I totally agree about Matt Target. He is improving with every game and thought that he was excellent yesterday.
  11. I was delighted when we signed him from Chesterfield after he made his name in their cup run to the semis back whenever. In his first spell with us he looked great but seemed to lose confidence at Blackburn under Hodgson and did not seem like the same player in his second spell. One of the few mistakes that Strachan made when he was with us was, in my opinion his mis-handling of him. Allardice turned him into a totally different type of player at Bolton (with it has to be said, some success) but it does beg the question of how good he would have been if he had stayed with us from the start. (This comment probably applies to a few other players as well!!) However, we got Beatts from Blackburn as part of the deal so we did OK from it. Cracking lad and well respected for his charity work. Seems to making a name for himself as a match summariser for BT Sport in which already he shows Owen how it should be done.
  12. Very well thought of locally. At his age it is all about potential but looks a very good signing.
  13. He has looked fairly solid so far and I have been impressed by his kicking.
  14. Bobby Stokes 1976 has to be up there along with the Dellhurst goals
  15. I agree that Mike Dean is one of the better refs at the moment along with Mark Clattenberg and Michael Oliver. The rest are much of a muchness with the exception of Craig Pawson, Kevin Friend, Jonathan Moss and Mike Jones who are awful. All in my opinion of course.
  16. Hopefully Reed, JWP, Turnbull, Targett, Seagar and Slattery will be back for the Christmas games.
  17. I have no wish to support Shrewsbury Town thank you. I was brought up in Hampshire and have supported Saints for over 50 years. You can change your job, you can change your house, you can even change your wife. But you can NEVER change your football team
  18. I had to travel back to Shrewsbury. I saw that the M3 was solid and had to throgh Romsey to Stockbridge and joined the A34 at Bullington Cross. I then found that the M42 round Birmingham was closed and the the M54 around Telford. A nightmare. Got home at 2.00 about an hour later than normal.
  19. The 34xxx were West Country/ Battle of Britain class The 35xxx were the slightly larger and more powerful Merchant Navy class.
  20. Also known as the Bullied formation.
  21. I remember that game well - the ref ( I think his name was Axton or something like that) was determined to play until Arsenal scored. Matt Le Tiss and Danny Wallace absolutely ran them ragged.
  22. Likewise: I also make the round trip from Shropshire for each home game. I was hoping for The Shrews in the draw but Stoke is close enough.
  23. About 20 minutes walk from home to the ground for me!!!
  24. Still not received my tickets. Ordered last Thursday. Anyone else not received theirs?
