  1. Absolutely agree. I am a little apprehensive about the future but I am sure that Kat would have imposed conditions that benefit SFC. Interesting times ahead.
  2. I seem to be alone on this forum in thinking the Matty Targett has the makings of a good player. Like most youngsters he needs a run in the side (difficult with the England left back ahead of him) and again like most youngsters he has made some howlers but this part of the learning process. His weak point seems to be his crossing - but there was nothing wrong with that yesterday.
  3. Best crosser of the ball I have ever seen.Assisted countless goals for Chivers Davies Channon etc
  4. Very impressed with him when the ball is on the ground. However he is not strong in the air and once or twice on Saturday was bullied. Hopefully this can be sorted out on the training ground. I think that Yoshida has had a great season and has cut out many of his 'Yoshi moments' although he did make one mistake on Saturday that led to a clear chance. Having said that, it would be interesting to see Jack and Virgil together. Virgil seems much more of a communicator than Yoshida.
  5. I have always been a fan but he seemed to have stagnated for a couple of seasons. Despite the number of games he has played we tend to forget how young he is. This season, particularly since Christmas he seems to have kicked on. He certainly has added some steel to his game but is not yet the finished article - but he is getting there and is obviously well regarded within the club and the England setup. Maybe because he goes about his job in an unspectacular way he is destined to become one of those players that are not always appreciated by the crowd but are essential to the team - a 'player's player'.
  6. I am a great admirer of Davis and he has served us very well over the years. However, he is not a holding midfielder and has made some bad mistakes playing there. if we are to play with two holding midfielders, which we seem to be doing in Claude's current formation I think this is one area where we need to spend money in the summer. Personally I do not think that Reed will be the answer, although I would be delighted to be proved wrong. Whether then SD can justify his place in the side at the expense of one of the other midfielders is debatable.
  7. Stick with him. He has faced many of the top strikers since he has been in the team and although he has made mistakes I think that he is learning well and there are signs that he could turn into a very good centre back. His experience playing as a defensive midfielder for Swindon has made him confident on the ball and the experience he is getting at the moment can only help him. I would very much like to see him play alongside Virgil next season - and this is no reflection on Yoshi who I think has had an excellent season and cut out a lot of the schoolboy errors in his game.
  8. And also away at WBA in that season's opener.
  9. Coming down from my home in Shropshire on the 9.05 from Wolverhampton. Really did not think I would make it due to a very bad virus but a bit of improvement yesterday and - hey - I ain't going to miss this! Also significant that due to work I moved away from Hampshire in 1973 and have travelled to see most of the Saints matches since from Sussex, Mid Wales and since 1988 from Shropshire. This should be the last match I will have a long commute to for by the time the nexy home match comes along in April we should have moved to our new home near Ringwood. About F*****k time we came back to our roots. Come on You Saints - lets make it special tomorrow.
  10. I also thought that he looked confident and composed. Although he is young he has amassed 67 league appearances on loan to Swindon and Coventry and I believe he won the Swindon player of the year a couple of years ago. He will probably need time and is sure to make a few mistakes but hopefully can adjust to a higher level.
  11. Agree totally.
  12. He wanted one big last payday before he retired. On this season's form there is in my view little to choose between Jose and Yoshi and it is arguable who would be first choice. The club gains a decent fee that they would not otherwise get and if the stories are to believed (I am not sure whether I do) a disruptive influence is moved on. Everybody wins. Having said that Jose has been a good servant and has earned the respect of all Saints fans. Players come and go and as much as I would like Terry Paine, Mick Channon, Matt Le Tiss and so on to still be playing for us it does not happen that way. Good luck to you Jose and thanks for everything.
  13. Has been a steady player for us particularly the last three seasons. Had a few dodgy games in the Championship and in our first season back. We can only speculate on how true the various stories and rumours that are coming our of St Mary's are. Thanks Jose but obviously something is not right and/or you have had a better offer and its time for both parties to move on.
  14. Happy Christmas to all Saints fans from a very windy Shropshire
  15. The one player that would fit our current 'system' with his goal scoring ability, versatile enough to play anywhere across the front line, bring others into play and drop back when needed is of course the Ricky Lambert of 5 years ago.
  16. Is there any news on Jake Hesketh? Not playing for the Under 23's so I presume he is still injured.
  17. Epic Night. Little old Saints, who I have supported through thin and thin for 52 years beating the mighty Inter Milan (and outplaying them twice). Hard to define our 'first team' now with this squad rotation but that is how it should be. As others have said, I thought that JWP was outstanding last night with honourable mentions to Maya and of course VVD. JWP's body language was that of someone in control and comfortable in his role. The only downside was the performance of JRod - a shadow of his former self. Lets hope that game time and a few goals restores his self belief. One further comment - who was the idiot that decided to close the M27 going west (and link to M3) at the Airport junction at the time when the match ended. Why not wait for half an hour until the traffic had dispersed? For those of us with long distances to travel after the game it was not appreciated - and its not the first time it has happened.
  18. Total raised now £382,750 http://www.benalisbigrace.com/
  19. Does anyone take Garth Crooks seriously?
  20. Does he play as a winger or a fluid no 10 for Serbia?
  21. I have difficulty scrolling on some pages (using Internet Explorer on Windows 10) and the page that tells you when tickets at available for forthcoming matches seems to have disappeared totally. Other than that - good feel to the website and a vast improvement.
  22. Anyone who has bought a single match ticket for the Watford or Sunderland games will stop that seat being sold as a season ticket.
  23. Incredibie peformance by Wales. Ironic that their 3 goalscorers tonight were all Englishmen.
  24. What I dont understand is, having just returned from two weeks holiday and having forced a move to Everton he finds it necessary to take another holiday when there are negotiations to be done , arrangements to be made and contracts to be signed
  25. I think that the number of his good games exceed his bad ones. Much as I would love him to stay, if he moves on so be it. We have to accept that players move on these days and that their only loyalty (with increasingly fewer exceptions) is to money. It is not about wanting to play in the Champions League - it is about the money they earn by doing so. However he will replaced and we will always support the 11 players wearing the shirt of Southampton that are the pitch at any one time.
