I thought Davis, Lallana, Holmes and McGoldrick were very good. The others werent as brilliant. I think it is important to be stoical about this season, we'll have bad days like today, the team are young, and the booing was uncalled for. How Stern didnt equalise is beyond me.

I thought Holmes was pants at home to Brum in the league, but admittedly this is the only game I have seen live and it would be unfair to judge him on that. Gillett was the best player in that game for me.

Interesting that as Surman's move to reading starts to happen, it becomes a 'good idea' to get rid of him.

I agree, anything over 2million would be good for us from Surman, hes far from a great left back based on saturdays performance.

Dyer is definitely better than Holmes/Thomson/Lallana, we need him in the side.

Its an appalling bit of business considering: a) He's our best player b) We desperately need him as we are short of quality at the back, and Killer may still break down. c) We could get so much more than 1.5million for him.

I was very impressed with Gillett and McGoldrick, I thought Holmes was poor. First half display very encouraging, just a shame we couldnt get a point. I thought there was nowhere near enough effort to get back into the game once Phillips scored. I agree with Alpine, I fully expect us to be relegated, I just can't see 3 teams who have worse players. Using the youngsters we have is the right thing to do, the only thing to do, but it will not work IMO.

Really used to dislike him as he seemed to be anti-saints, seems like a decent enough guy more recently though.

Yes but the worry must be that, even with improvement, our kids just arent going to be good enough to cope with the players in this league.

What I meant was that they didnt explore how 12 of the 16 in our squad today werent playing vs palace last season. Its all change after the summer, but if I had watched that as a fan of another team I would be expecting us to play skacel, rasiak etc, not Mills, Lallana, Holmes, Gillett, James....

Not sure really, doesnt seem like they've done much research, the fact that we will be relying almost exclusively on our untested youth was barely touched upon. Nice to see them mention Svensson though!

I thought the criticism he got in his first 18 months was completely unfounded, not his fault that our finishing was so bad/individual errors, as often we dominated matches. However, there was a definite lack of enthusiasm from him last season, it was as if he knew the momentum was gone.
