This. I am pretty sure that statistically Redmond is far more successful in both the assists and goals front. Boufal scores on wonder goal and produces a couple of successful fancy flicks and a load of Saints fans think we have the new Ronaldo or Messi on our hands. Boufal is nothing more than a 5a side player.

FA Cup Qtr Final Saints v Wigan or Man City AWAy
Ewell replied to John Boy Saint's topic in The Saints
I am pretty confident that if you went onto the Wigan or Rochdale forums then you would see that they have a bigger pair of balls than the majority of Saints fans. It's XI v XI, a cup quarter final, yes we wont be favourites but anything can happen. Maybe if we travel in numbers and get behind the team they may surprise us. -
Your deluded if you think that Romeu\Wanyama Boufal\Mane Hoedt\Van Dyke and Austin-Garido\Pelle are good enough replacements and that's without even mentioning Fonte and Schneiderlin.

This with bells and whistles on. I'd love to know what people think his key attributes are? So far I've noticed he is very one paced with little acceleration in mind or body, lacks strength and doesn't hold the ball up well, doesn't win many headers and when he does they lack accuracy, his first touch and passing accuracy are also patchy. I did like his movement v West Brom when Foster made a good save from him but that and the fact its early days are the only two reasons I can find to think he may come good, he just looks very ordinary.

Hey, now come on let's give Ralphy some credit, at least he isn't ****ing around with his ice hockey puck at this years winter Olympics!
-
I was gutted we didn't go for him as I actually think he has everything from leadership, determination and British grit but he also has a touch of class when on the ball too. 12 million is very good business from Leicester.

For me Jack Stephens goals are certainly a welcome bonus but he is in the team to dominate the strikers and defend his own box properly. He did neither of those yesterday. He got completely bullied by Hegazi and was then remonstarting with the referee as if he had been fouled, he wasn't he was just soft. He then also got turned inside out by Sturridge who then wasted his shot on goal by blasing over. I like Stephens a lot but he has to improve and quickly particularly at defending his own penalty area. If he isn't up to it then we need to sign a dominant centre half this summer and then Hoet and Stephens will be competing for the other place in the team. It's up to Jack he has to win more headers and also toughen up.

Les Read went to Europe and brought back Pellegrino, He's had a bloody stinker, and been off enjoying a beano, we want him gone tomorrow If not before tonight, If this doesn't happen, We'll sing this song all night! I'll get my coat!
-
A key point that many would do well to remember. Lets be honest we all want him to do well don't we, but whether he does or doesn't remains to be seen, it's firmly a 'wait and see' job.

I think David Beckham proved once and for all that you don't need to be able to beat anybody to supply a decent cross, you just need to create a yard of space.
-
So was he one of the top targets on the famous black box and would we have signed him if Pellegrino wasn't in charge? Answers on a postcard please but somehow I think not.
-
He has done a superb job nurturing the talent of Walcott, The Ox and Chambers. I'd also say that Wilshere, Ramsey and several other lower profile Arsenal players haven't been the successes they could have been. At one time these players were coveted by others, not so much anymore!
-
Yep and an article I pretty much agree with although you have to wonder if its the injury which is still hampering him and is that the reason why Pellegrino isn't picking him. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11700/11207754/mario-lemina-in-focus-time-for-southampton-to-trust-in-his-talent

The utterly brilliant Jane Weaver.

That's quite a horrendous draw tbf.
-
A January contender for post of the year, very well said sir. Although FWIW I do think that we need to sack Pellegrino asap otherwise I think survival is highly unlikely.
-
This is one of the reasons we will always be a small time club, our fans just cannot let go of the the bullied little brother syndrome. Instead of thinking i'm gonna come up with a song for Wesley, Maya, Jack or a new signing we focus on the negative muppet who left. In reality Liverpool fans will most likely sing our old song so in any case it will just end up sounding like the majority of the stadium are singing for VVD, so what a great idea!

This post seems pretty much spot on IMHO.

All I know is its absolutely impossible to have any confidence in Pelligrino or Read to bring in the right players. The recent record has been mediocre at best and completely dysfunctional at worst. I am sure we will get more hype from the clowns on the board that we have been watching player xyz for a number of years when in reality they are just taking a punt on cheap options who haven't made the grade anywhere else. A question, so when did we last sign someone who was playing in another teams first team week in week out?

Liverpool agree world-record £75m deal for Virgil van Dijk
Ewell replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
So its you and your kind that are responsible for them getting in our end. -
So you're dropping Jack Stephens who I thought was hands down our best player in the back 3, if not the entire team against Chelsea. He was leading the defence as well, talking to Yoshi, JWP and Hoedt through the entire game. There is no way I'd be dropping Stephens, when on form I think he is our best center half other than a committed VVD in his prime.

Great post, but unfortunately the modern premier league football fan is here to stay. I can't even just blame the younger generation as there are plenty of fans who have been going for years who have also forgotten who we are and where we came from and they are all demanding nothing but success.
-
Absolutely summed up perfectly, totally on board with this opinion!
-
I really like Sims, he would be a great addition to the bench once fully fit. I just don't get the Redmond hate, seriously the boy has ability and talent but has been suffering with lack of confidence this season. Hopefully the pep talk and his assist against Bournemouth will go along way to shutting the haters up, but I doubt it as they seem to have made their minds up!

Breaking News: Southampton Football Club - Wembley Finalists
Ewell replied to thefunkygibbons's topic in The Saints
Getting to a Wembley final didn't do Puel much good!
