2 weeks ago I'd have put my mortgage on us winning up there, now I am far from sure we will. This is the sort of game in years gone by we have royally screwed up in. You would still have to fancy us but for once I am tempted to back against us just to numb the pain in case we bottle it.

Sorry, I think he is spot on.

Mane is one of those players who is going to cause the cardiac arrest rate in Southampton to increase sharply.

Wow, that's certainly going to ruin several people's day.

Are the "big teams" starting to raise their game against us
Ewell replied to Stepgar's topic in The Saints
Sorry to shatter your theory but I thought Arsenal were very average and completely bossed in the first half. The game swung when Arsenal brought Giroud on and they had quite a few opportunities from there. They played no better than us but did create more chances but were very lucky to come away with 3 points and wouldn't have if Alderweireld hadn't got injured. City were far stronger mainly because YaYa and Aguero were just incredible. -
Poor old Tottenham!

Maybe he doesn't think Reed is quite ready for those kind of matches yet. When JWP was picked at City away for his debut all of us there were surprised but he ended up being just about our best player on the day. He has the composure and temperament to play Premier League football from a very young age. Personally I feel Reed should go out on loan in January to pick up some experience.

Whilst I can accept City are far and away a better side we played very poorly and shot ourselves in the foot for all 3 goals. The injury to Morgan and no Cork on the bench didn't help. I said it before and I will say it after this defeat. The fact we don't have the resources and squad size of the bigger teams is what makes it much harder to compete with teams like Chelsea, City, United and Arsenal over a 38 game season. We may give Liverpool, Spurs and Everton a run for their money though.

nine out of 12 of our games have been against sides in the bottom 11!

Yep a spot on post, I 100% agree on both points. -
It looks like Ronald agrees with me and see's Davis as a key player. He also states he is a doubt for tomorrow which is a real shame and could be crucial! http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/11634623.___Key_player____Davis_a_doubt_for_vital_clash/?ref=mac

Statistically Southampton are the toughest away ground for the top 4 sides in Premier League history. Oh and I am not talking about fisticuffs but rather teams coming to St Mary's and leaving with any points. http://blog.paddypower.com/2014/11/27/which-is-the-toughest-away-ground-for-the-top-four-to-visit-in-the-premier-league-the-results-might-just-surprise-you/?AFF_ID=16562

The one thing tonight's performance and result has told me is how important Steven Davis is to our team. His all energy work rate, tenacity and quality on the ball are a key element to the way we play. It's actually laughable how the majority of numpty's who put their starting XI's up have him on the bench. Maybe a few of them will wake up and smell the coffee now. Steven Davis is a KEY player for Southampton Football Club and I hope we have him back in the team soon.

He is a class act who just needs to add a few more goals to his game, which he will when given time and when confidence grows. Once this happens then I can see him having a similar season to Aaron Ramsey last year.

Spot on, good post. As mentioned plenty of our signings the in the last 2-3 years have been quite hit and miss. Gaston, Mayuka and Osvlado for starters. Also this chap has only been here the last 2-3 years so the youngsters we have coming through have very little to do with him but more those who have gone before him. The fruits of his labour will probabaly start to come through in a few years time.

Toby Alderweireld has made a real difference and looks a class act to me. He is very calm and composed on the ball and I would love us to sign him up permanently. I just fear he is now in the "Premier League" shop window, is proving himself to be an accomplished defender in this league so the really big clubs will be monitoring his progress especially during our tough run of games in November\December. My thoughts are that if we are serious about wanting to sign him up permanently then we will need to have finalised the deal this side of Christmas and be completing it in the early days of the January transfer window. The sooner we do it the better.

This feels like a lifetime ago. You really realise it when you note that Puncheon scored for MK Dons against us.

Spot on, some people just don't know the rules.

The point Batman is making is a fair one and obvious to most of us. The cretins having a pop are no more than a couple of wet fart's and I have no doubt that they would run home crying to their parents if Batman even raised his voice to them.

A good summary and spot on. Koeman also needs to take note today. He has so much data at his disposal with regards how Pochettino teams play. As soon as he realised Spurs had finally got into the rhythm of playing this way then we should have reverted to the hit the channels and bypass the midfield tactics which were the undoing of Pochettino's Saints side on several occasions.

We didn't get going today, we couldn't handle Adebeyor and Forster looked dodgy on at least two occasions spilling shots\crosses. I also though Tadic and Pelle had their worst games so far and Mane is just going to be one of those frustrating types. To be fair to Spurs they looked much bigger and stronger than us all over the park.
