Sorry it`s not that simple. Whatever you think of (for example) Euell, he is experienced he is capable of score goals from midfield and he is earning high wages. Why not at least have him on the bench and earn some of his money?

It also makes you wonder why these high earners that we cannot get rid of are sitting around doing nothing whilst being paid their high wages. Why are they not in the squad? Why are we not making them EARN their money.:confused:

I have to say that despite all of the goings-on at SMS during the last few months, I actually felt reasonably upbeat and quitely confident about the new season. I had seen enough in the pre-season friendlies to make me think that we may surprise a few teams. I wasn`t over duly worried that we would probably lose some of the high earners as long as we kept Andrew Davies and Stern John. All in all making the best of a bad situation I thought, events over the last 36 hours have give my (misplaced?) confidence a kick up the ass. The likely loss of AD for £1.5M, the "Surman to Reading" rumours, JPs somewhat downbeat comments after the game and his body language on the touchline yesterday (after being so animated during the pre-season games) really worry me. Yesterdays first half was probably the best football that I have seen from a Saints team for many years, but is this going to be enough?

Some papers this morning reporting that he may be going back to West Ham, his first (or is it second) "spiritual home"!

One of the national papers the day after VS played at half time during the match described the lead singer (I wonder who he was?) as "a clown baiting the Leeds fans".

The thing that concerned me yesterday was that JP did not seem very animated on the touchline. During the pre-season friendlies he was. Reading his rather downbeat comments, coupled with the "Surman to Reading" rumours this morning may go some way to explaining his body language yesterday.

Which club has the better chance of a quick return to the Prem? Surman is not Prem class at the moment.

Quite agree but it does however concern me that we are probably always going to let goals in (unless we get some experience in at FB) so we have to take our chances and score. Remember Keegans first spell at Newcastle? His attacking style left them vulnerable at the back, but their attacking ability outweighed this. I felt reasonably confident with Andrew Davies coming back that we had the makings of a good defence - but now. :mad:

You`re quite right. Spurs are one of those clubs that consider themselves to be "one of the Big Boys" without really ever backing it up. Living on past glories. Although TBF I don`t actually hate them but I do have a good laugh at them at times.

BELLE Vue superstar Jason Crump, winner of 27 of his last 30 races at home, will tackle a unique challenge to his supremacy at the Kirkmanshulme Lane circuit later this month. Crump, the fastest man ever round the track, will race against three different cars driven by former Grand Prix and Le Mans ace Tiff Needell, who is now a presenter for Channel Five's Fifth Gear programme. Needell, a World class driver in many different aspects of four-wheel racing, has picked up the challenge to race against double World speedway champion Crump in a feature for the next series of the show later this year. Needell will race against Crump in three different vehicles which have still to be confirmed. But they are likely to be a Rage Buggy, a Formula 1 Stockcar and the Citroen Xsara belonging to Mad Mark Watson, the current British Rallycross Open Champion. A Rage Buggy should be quite spectacular as it has a 900cc engine to the 500cc of a speedway bike and can go from 0-60 mph in three seconds. How it handles the tight Belle Vue bends remains to be seen but the stockcar should have no problem as they race regularly at the stadium. A spokesman for Fifth Gear said: "We have no idea what type of car stands the best chance so Tiff's idea is to try something small and light in the first race, like a Rage Buggy. "Then we'll go a bit more brutal in race 2, maybe with an F1 Stockcar. Finally, we'll go for a full blown Rallycross monster in race 3. We're taking this challenge very seriously and will be coming up to Manchester to give it our best shot." Aces' chief David Gordon said: "We are delighted that Fifth Gear and Tiff Needell accepted our challenge and there is no doubt he means to give Jason a real test. "Obviously we think Jason will take a lot of beating around our track but it will be fascinating to see how it works out. "We are sure it will make compulsive viewing and we are happy Jason could fit it into what is a very busy schedule Programme will air on Channel 5 on 25-8-08 at 8.00pm

Far too many to list but one of the earliest "special" memories was standing on a crisp tin that my dad borrowed from the snack bar so that I could see over the wall at the Milton Road end. My dad had given Terry Paine my autograph book and he came out just before the game to find us and give the book back. We were playing Barnsley and Terry had got the autographs of both teams and manager. Last memory, of course MLT`s goal against Arsenal. I actually cried at that as it was the perfect end to the "Grand Old Lady" and with it (almost )the end of Le Tiss. SMS will never match The Dell for memories.

Mind you, there are some sportspeople who seem to thrive when they get a negative reaction from a crowd. How many time during matches have the crowd given a particular opposition player a lot of stick only for them to score a goal later in the game. Nicki Pedersen, the Danish Speedway rider, who was something of a pantomime villain at Cardiff this year, is a sportsman who seems to ride better if the crowd are against him!
