He certainly looks like proving everybody wrong and has to take the credit if we do well. We've only won one game so far though, it's where we finish at the end of the season that counts.
-
Lets hope they can keep it up, the confidence this win will give them will be huge boost for the next few games.

Great stuff, wish I had gone now, would have been great to see those Derby ****s again.

I think the crux of the issue is what the standard of team is that Lowe believes we need to be able to operate effectively. Lowe may be good with numbers but when it comes to judging how well equiped we are to compete in the Championship we might as well have Father Christmas in charge.

IMO cheering and encouragement obviously helps, as much as booing/abuse has the reverse effect. The idea that a player tries harder because of chants etc is rubbish. I think players tend to score against their old clubs for a number of reasons, but this seems regardless of wether they get a good or bad reception. The problem is when players get abuse and they score everyone remembers it, you instantly forget the games where you give the player all-sorts of grief and they have an absolute stinker. I remember at The Dell the players used to hate it when they got abuse, you could see it on their faces.

So in your simplistic world if we need to raise £6mill the bank will make us do it no matter what, even if that means selling every single player and the SFC backroom staff have to take to the field for the season? rubbish The whole future of the club relys upon the quality of the first team, if we get relegated we will go into admin and the bank will lose more money, even Barclays will understand that.
-
I never said we didn't have to sell players, we obviously do. But there comes a point where getting rid of too many will be a false economy because relegation will lose us a fortune. There's no point you or I doing our basic maths because neither of us know exactly what the bank's policy is, or what our current costs are. But the fact that the bank let us gamble 1.5mill euros a couple of months ago means that it is not as simple as the bank manager telling us what to do - we obviously have options.
-
We do have a choice, we spunked 1.5mill euros on an untried French kid during the summer without making any major sales. Now if it is the bank manager making descisions on playing staff then we have the first bank manager in history to tell a club on the verge of admin to gamble a ton of cash on a player. Lowe would like us to think he has no choice - it's easier for him that way. The fact is the bank even backed Crouch and his "who cares if we lose money" policy, I'm pretty ****ing sure that he will understand that if we reduce the quality of the team too much we will go down and into admin and he will see even less of his money.

Anyone who thinks fans songs cause opposition strikers to score goals has the brain of a 12 year old.

The idea of an old fart like Merrington fronting a multimillion pound consortium is just too bizarre to take seriously. Doesn't he still commentate on local radio to earn a few extra bob?
-
But there still HAS to be a balance between cutting costs and maintaining a competitive side. We obviously have to cut our cloth but there will be a point where it becomes a false economy to sell a player if it means inevitable relegation because the amount lost by going down would be far more than that gained by selling. The question is do we trust Lowe to get the balancing act right?

Stewards rank just below "****ed bloke in pub" in the ITK status league table, purely because of their desperate need to feel important.

It's not a case of giving up it's a case of being realistic. Only 4 teams were worse than us last year, since then we have lost over 15 first team players, brought in a few on the cheap and hired a manager with no experience of English football. Staying up would be a massive achievement, there isn't a manager alive who could get that team promoted this season IMO. Some people need to wake up and smell the coffee, us staying up this year will be as good an achievement as Hull or Stoke staying up in the Prem.

Kids are w****rs

I will be over the moon if we finish 4th bottom.
-
i agree that most of those players did not do the business for us last season and that the quality of some of the youngsters shows what a hideous waste of money many of them were. BUT most of them did play a role at some point and did a job, wether the quality of the first XI is better or worse is up for debate but over a season it's the quality of the squad that makes the difference and we are a whole squad of capable CCC players down on a sqad that last year finished 5th bottom. How would our current squad cope with say 7-8 of the first team injured? If Coventry had lost the players we had then we would all be saying they are dead certs for relegation.
-
True the side was not that great. But they are being replaced, on the whole, by players who were deemed worse by all the managers we had last season.

...from the squad at the end of last season. Not a bad side. R Wright Ostlund Lucketti Davies Vignal Viafara Safri Idiakez Licka Rasiak Saganowski Subs: Pericard Powell Hammill J Wright Makin

2-0 Derby. Saints kids' honeymoon over as the realities of the CCC hit home.

Who would be your next offload to reduce the wage bill if required?

Might as well flog the whole ****ing lot and prepare for life in league 1 with a better bank balance. We are nailed on for relegation now so why not? -
Lowe and WH Ireland: Why the connection is pivitol for our club
aintforever replied to scooby's topic in The Saints
I expect the 10-15 point deduction would see us in league 2. -
I never said ignore the books, there is obviously cuts that have to be made but my point is that certain relegation will mean losing alot more money than a few hundred grand on wages. It's all about getting the balance right, if we get relegated the club is finished, certain admin. If keeping one player at an outlay of say 7k a week saves the club millions in the long run by keeping us up it is a right thing to do even though the books look worse in the short term - surely your brain can understand that? If our finances were so desperate that we have to sell players or go into admin tomorrow why the hell would the bank let us gamble 1.5mill euros on a French kid? We have choices, simply balancing the books and ignoring the quality of the first team could mean losing much more in the long run.
-
Blimey, you've finally admitted that we didn't have to appoint Sturrock!!!!! The Sturrock appointment was awful - it only looked half decent because of the Wigley appoinment that followed.

This is how Administration works...
aintforever replied to Legod Second Coming's topic in The Saints
I have said all along that administration or a Coventry situation is inevitable. We will have to be staring admin in the face before Lowe, Wilde or Crouch admit that their shareholdings are completely worthless - only then will it be worth someone buying the club (SISU style). -
All this "the bank" is making the descisions is bull****, we have just spunked £1.5mill euros on an untried French kid. These player sales are all Lowe's descision.
