  1. Close game but we were not great. Neither were Villa though so it’s another winnable game pissed up the wall by Jones. What’s the point in buying these players if we’re not going to start them?
  2. Shame we didn't get Ings, I thought he looked pretty sharp in the few times I had the misfortune to watch Villa.
  3. Does being in the EU stop countries giving aid? According to that site Poland has given more as a percentage of GDP than us, they are in the EU.
  4. According to this the EU have given e30.32 billion in support too Ukraine, the UK e2.55 billion. https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/
  5. Note he said "political case". That could easily change after the next GE. The important thing for Starmer is to get into power - he will say whatever he needs to win back the red wall. The work starts after that.
  6. Yeah, might as well lock the thread because he’s obviously not going anywhere. Crazy turnaround since the forest performance- I don’t think anyone expected what we’ve seen. Fair play to Jones and the players. Just hope we can keep it up and it’s not just a new manager bounce!
  7. Prowsie has certainly answered his critics today, I always thought he would do well in the no 10 role in a 4-2-3-1. The midfield three of Lavia, Diallo and him looks like the way forward. Fair play to Jones, mental turnaround since the Forest debacle. Hopefully we can keep progressing and it’s not jus5 a new manager bounce thing. Get a striker in this window and we have a decent chance of staying up.
  8. What a bunch of cunts. If anyone deserves to go down it is them lot.

    XG

That's not the stat being misleading, it's you not understanding what it is for. It is not supposed to be a measure of who is the best team or who should win, just a gauge of the quality of chances created. A team can be by far the better team, win the game comfortably but still have a low Xg. For example of they go 2-0 up early on with a couple of worldies then sit back and just defend well for 80 minutes they would probably have a very low Xg.

    XG

The stats - the points per game ratio. xG is not meant for anything other than give an idea of the quality of chances created.

I thought they were all bollocks, now you are saying exactly what I said - they need to be understood and used in context. xG is only a crude measure of chance quality not the outcome of the game. It doesn’t imply that team that has the highest xG in a game should win, just that they might have had more clear cut goal-scoring chances. The name “expected goals is just derived from the mathematical concept of “expected value” - a measurement of probability. Like any stat, on it’s own it is pretty meaningless but used in context it has value.

That we have been shit obviously.

But if you hadn't watched the games the 0 points from 3 games would give you a clue though wouldn't it?

    0 points from 3 games - that's a stat.

Of course, but IF a spreadsheet does tell you that it has done it's job. There are only so many games a scout/manager can watch, you can feed stats from thousands of games onto a spreadsheet.

I'm not sure that is what you are supposed to conclude from xg, it's just to give an idea of how many goal scoring opportunities a team had. It's a crude tool but is no different to any stat in that respect. Possession stats don't always tell you who deserved to win, neither do shots on goal or shots on target. All the stats need to be used in context to mean anything.
  17. There is no sugar coating it, it’s a bitch of a draw. Newcastle are probably the best team left in it and playing the away leg last is going to be hard. The only positive I can see is the Howe usually blows off the cups but with Newcastle having not won anything for about a million years there is little chance he will not take this seriously.
  18. The booing has obviously given them the kick up the arsenal they need. Credit where it’s due.
  19. Prowsey for me, he was everywhere.
  20. Blimey, wasn’t expecting that! Great performance, great result.
  21. Not sure we have time for a manager on a learning curve. We've all been through relegation battles before, we might only be 3-4 points adrift but every time you lose a winnable game means later in the season you end up having to go to Old Trafford or similar to get a result.
  22. It's almost as if the problem was the lack of a goalscorer, not the manager.
  23. It’s a bit gutting to not even have a new manager bounce, even shit managers usually have some sort of honeymoon period, we have just got worse.
  24. Looks like he's sat in front of a moped to me, there is definitely a drink on the table though.
