There are many reasons why Korea has done so well, track and trace is probably the main reason but masks have played their part. There was some Korean expert on the radio the other day explaining why. Even though masks have a limited effect, because it is a cheap and easy thing that the whole population can do straight away it helps with the numbers.
-
I thought they gave people a false sense of security so they can’t concentrate on other measures? Then you posted some pointless graph showing cases going up after masks were introduced.
-
Your stat is meaningless, maybe without masks there would be 2,000 plus deaths? My point about South Korea is that they clearly know what they are doing. They learned their lessons from the Mers pandemic so surely the wise thing to do would be to learn from them no? If wearing masks made things worse, as you say, why do they do it and have such good results?
-
I haven’t seen a single person claim masks were the solution. They just obviously help and I’m not sure there are any stats that prove otherwise. Here’s a stat, South Korea, who wore masks from day 1: deaths 468. UK who didn’t: 46,857.

Also a weird correlation between them and climate change denial.

Pandering to the thick as fuck as usual. Just need a catchy 3 word slogan and we will have those nightclubs open again, who cares what experts say.

There have been plenty of proper investigations you bell-end. This is worth a read. https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-10-28/a-room-a-bar-and-a-class-how-the-coronavirus-is-spread-through-the-air.html

And if the NHS gets overwhelmed those three will kill more along with Covid.
-
Some hospitals are being stretched at the moment, even with all the restrictions. I’m not sure what you are expecting to happen by just letting it spread? There was an expert on Radio 5 the other day explaining the numbers, it would get really ugly.
-
Nonsense. Someone posted a graph earlier on in the thread showing what will happen, it will be wave - lockdown - wave - lockdown - wave - lockdown ... etc until eventually herd immunity is reached by either a vaccine or naturally. Lockdowns are not aimed at stopping the virus just slowing the spread and stopping the nhs getting overwhelmed.
-
Exactly. That was the whole idea behind the circuit break, try and get the r rate down while the numbers are low to give us time to sort out track and trace for when it opens up again. If the numbers are at a manageable level then in theory a good track and trace system might be able to control it.
-
There’s always a time lag so I expect we won’t know for at least a week or so. one thing is for sure, if what we are currently doing isn’t getting the R rate below one, infections, hospitalisations and deaths will only carry on going up and the longer they go up the longer it takes to get it back down and the worse the effect on the economy.

It’s looking more and more like Starmer was right about the circuit break. At this rate we’re going to end up in a national lockdown anyway.

Well the never-ending roadworks on the M27 seem to be mainly Asian staff from what I’ve seen. -
Cheers for that, very well presented. And to think, it wasn’t long ago that Bozo and his clowns were telling us there is no need to wear face coverings.
-
Why not, according to you I should be out there fighting for the cause. You give it the large about BLM on the mongboard, in reality when you actually have to stand up for what you believe in it all falls apart. Guess it doesn’t really matter that much to you either.
-
We’re you out there protecting statues, getting a shoeing outside Waterloo then?

Maybe. I’ve already said I’m not a fan of positive discrimination, mainly for the reasons you state. -
How’s the statue protecting going on?

No, I was only just out of Uni, wouldn’t have been a very clever career move. -

I’ve worked somewhere where the boss is a racist twat and, I quote: “wouldn’t hire Asians because they have a chip on their shoulder”. I’ve read numerous accounts of people who wouldn’t get an interview, then changed their name to something more ‘English’ then do. Even Boris Johnson said discrimination was a problem that needed sorting out so I guess there is some evidence. i have no idea what the situation within football is like, maybe you should ask Paul Elliot? -

I don’t disagree but if people are being discriminated against and the law isn’t helping them I’m not sure how else you can get change. -

I’m not a fan of positive discrimination but if discrimination on grounds of race or sex is already happening then maybe it’s a necessary evil? -
You would like to think the high turnout should favour Biden, think I would lose faith in humanity if people were queuing around the block to keep that fucktard Trump in power. I don’t take much interest in foreign politics and couldn’t give the slightest shit wether the US has a left or right wing government, won’t make any difference to my life. But for the sake of the battle against climate change, Trump needs to go. I expect Biden will win comfortably, but nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to the US. It’s amazing how out of the whole of the US it has come to a choice between these two old fossils. Makes the choice between Corbyn and Bozo seem almost normal.
