That's all true, and I didn't say we have nothing to play for: I said they've no more than us. Both clubs want the money, momentum to carry into next season and the satisfaction of a win over another South Coast club (wouldn't go so far as to call them rivals or this a derby match)
-
Not sure why they're fighting for their lives. They didn't put in much fight losing 0-5 to Man City and they will be safe on 36 points. They have no more to play for than us.
-
This makes sense but I'd guess there's a shedload of haggling to be done.
-
Think Smallbone will start for Armstrong, maybe Hojbjerg for Romeu and, although I doubt it would be popular, wouldn't be surprised to see us start with Obafemi and Long up front as Ings and Adams put in a lot of running and pressing at OT.
-
This is all about keeping the momentum going to the end of the season. Unbeaten in the last 6 needs to be the minimum target.

Brighton don't need the points. They're not mathematically safe but it would take a miracle for them to go down.

This. 100%

They haven't been focused or motivated at all since the break. That's got to be down to the regime during lock-down. I don't think any team had matched Saints in that respect.

That was amusing. VVD totally done for theπ Arsenal goal

Man City game is so boring.

Watching Brentford. They look good playing a similar pressing and quick transition game to Saints'. I'm hoping they come up.

There's a BT TV App that you can Chromecast onto a TV

Thanks as always. Nailed it, as usual. Especially agree with the bizarre attitude that, as we've got nothing to play for, it was a disgrace that we put in a shift and actually tried. ππ

My final thought on the Romeu non-red-card. I wonder how the outcome might have been different if there had been 70000 aggrieved MU fans screaming at the ref?
-
That's just ridiculous. Bednarek has gone from strength to strength. Stephens will be first choice partner. We need a good backup, and Salisu seems to fit the bill.
-
The team will all be be assessed for recovery in the usual way. It will only be if any aren't ready that they could be rested. I think the only starters who might struggle to be ready again after 3 days are Armstrong, Adams (hasn't had as much match practice) and possibly Ings. But as Ralph has says, they're enjoying playing, there's no pressure and when it's like that and you've got a month's rest coming I think they'll all be keen to start.

Can only assume he decided KWP fouled Williams.
-
The ball was outside the area.
-
Pretty sure it was a free kick. A dropped ball should have been given to us, not the keeper, as we were in possession when play stopped.
-
I think it'll be the same team, again, with earlier subs if we're leading. Ralph seems to be making a point about our fitness and this clearly is now his first choice team.

They weren't completely his fault but he could have done better on both. For the first he was drawn inside and didn't seem.aware that Rashford was behind him. And for the second he was also quite narrow. It could be that's the way we want to play, conceding space wide and covering central runs, but he didn't get anywhere close enough to Martial to force him wide and was easily beaten when he cut inside. But apart from that and, in my opinion, tendency to leave too much space outside, he didn't have a bad game and hopefully it's something coaching can sort out.

I've entertained myself too with a read through. Mind-blowing arrogance, entitlement and ignorance all at the same time. I found most interesting: We were dirty. We committed one more foul than them. We injured two of their players. Shaw injured himself and Williams was an accidental clash of heads. The ref was biased in our favour. They're so used to have refs at OT influenced by the big crowd that they can't accept a more neutral performance. I'll accept that maybe Romeu was lucky, but there's a case that it wasn't intentional, but they got their share of decisions, like a free kick for an accidental clash of heads. Should have been our dropped ball. We had no right to be playing with such intensity because we should be understanding that we're just mid-table with nothing to play for. No comment to that one. Our players were only putting in the effort because it was a high profile game for us (even Cup Final!) and to put themselves in the shop window because they obviously don't want to stay at Southampton. There's a simple lack of comprehension that team spirit and wanting to do well collectively in this group and for this manager is more important than individual glory and more pay. Why didn't MU bring on a sub when Williams was injured? Many conspiracy theories about the ref not allowing it etc, but the simple answer was that no matter how many times it was explained, they didn't get the "three sub windows" rule. And we scored in the seventh minute of added time when the board said 5. Clearly missed that after the board went up there was a long stoppage fir the clash of heads, for which extra extra time was correctly added. Except there probably have been a bit more for us to get the winner. π On long journeys home on a trainful of MU fans I've suffered too many times with being told that going to Saints' matches is really only a way to get to see the big teams: if MU are playing, really everyone only want to see them. So, every time we annoy them, it's most excellent. Really hope Chelsea or Leicester beat them to CL.

I see Ole has said that Fernandes will be taking both of their penalties tonight, and the red card for a random Saints player will be clearly justified.

Correct until Sunday! With Villa and Bournemouth winning too, it's as you were. Norwich gone, Villa and Bournemouth still favourites to join them but Watford and West Ham's nerves will be back. Quite interesting now when you look at the remaining games. Bournemouth should lose to City then will have to beat us to have hope. I'd love to seebus actually send them down then for it to come down to the last day with Villa v West Ham to settle it. And obviously Villa winning in added time.
