  1. i agree. saw it from the kingsland. And the yellow missle thing was thrown by burnley, but then we threw one back. From where i was standing we through a lot more than them. Mindless idiots at a completely stupid time when we're trying to gain good publicity for the club. I really am fed up with some of the pathetic yoofs that have inflltrated what used to be a great set of supporters. I really hope none of them are turning up at Forest next week. If there's any footage available, i hope anyone who threw anything is banned. ****s.
  2. you know, that is a VERY good point. Walcott in particular owes a lot to us! and 'Saints mad' Bridgey must be loaded..... HOWEVER, the chances are these players may have put money into the club....they just prefer it not to be advertised in case fans of their club take it badly..... (i hope that's the case anyway, and they aren't just forgetting about us!)
  3. missed the first half!! unbelievable 2nd half!!
  4. this seems to me that there are genuine concerns that we won't sell out: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11587 given the publicity we're receiving, this game will probably highlight the club more than any other this season. We must sell-out!
  5. lol fair point. Just really want to see the next game after actually seeing 'fight' against swansea. Annoyed the club havent taken into consideration those who live further away.
  6. honesty guys, i dont think you quite understand the problem and danger the journey will cause for many. You guys in southampton really havent seen half the snow we've seen in the east. Many roads off the main a-roads in guildford and london are well over 30cm deep with snow. Where there is no snow there is thick thick ice. Sure, we can get out, but its dangerous (someone literally just tried in my road and slid their mini into a tree!). Getting there is feasible though, however, it's the travelling back that will be a problem - darkness and black ice will make it VERY dangerous, especially off the main roads. I'd love to go and use my season ticket but im concerned about the side roads when i travel back as they'll be much much iceier at 11pm). If only i had spikes on my tyres!
  7. they said on the tannoy before the game that they are hoping to get the chapel screen fixed by next week.
  8. I honestly think you could be onto something here. Lallana will be in his preferred position, as would James. Just a bit worried about the defensive cover. Cork has been excellent as defensive midfielder recently. Still, I would like to see this being given a go.....
  9. Inept and abject display. The last twenty minutes today reminded me of our last 20mins in the Premiership against Man Utd. They look like a team with no desire, no determination and a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness amongst the players. I feel they are lost and when they look at their manager they see someone as completely clueless as them. However, I also believe that these players, especially the home-grown ones, DO care about Southampton. It just doesnt look like it. They care, but they're knackered, mentally knackered. They don't have a clue what to do. In these situations you look to your boss, your mentor to help you, but they've no confidence in him, so they've given up on doing that now. They look towards Euell and Davis, but they're no managers, and in Euell, you get a sense there's a player who just doesn't think he should take on this role. And he's right. He's a footballer, not a manager. Before the game I compared the two sides warming up. There was Forest - some practising passing, some shooting. There was Saints - 20 mins on beautiful, intricate, one-touch football. And very little else. I wonder how much this resembles a weekday training session, because for all their comfort on the ball, Southampton have clearly forgotten that the aim is to get the ball out side, to cross, to get into the box, and above all to shoot. They've forgotten that although 4 yard passes look good, you need perfect weighted 20-30 yard passes to split defences. They've forgotten that to split defences you need runners on diagonal runs. Today we were clueless, no one wanted to carry the side and no one had confidence in the manager to look towards him. You feel that the players now question Jan's tactics, but because they're so inexperienced they can't be sure he is wrong, so they carry on half hearted. Anyhow, my ratings: Davis - 7 - Davis has played excellently this season, but i feel now the weight of responsibility of his shoulders is starting to wear him down. However, I honestly cant see how some are giving him less than this. Ok, he dropped a corner, his punching was poor, but he's always been bad at these! Did no one see his two exceptional saves in the first half? James - 5 - Reminds me of Telfer. When the team play well, he looks sh*t. When the team play poorly, he actually looks alright. Defending is questionable, but at least he can cross. But Lloydy, please, please, get further down the line. You crossing is good, but from the byline i think it may just be lethal. Then again, with Lallana's inability to stay anywhere near the wing probably means he's too scared to as the wing will then be exposed to a break away. Pearce - 4 - He's declining in form. Perry - 5 - A couple of good tackles - but again, the first goal was just poor, poor defending. Skacel - 5 - Some good runs forward, but poor crossing. Cork - 6 - He was ok, but he has to be more desciplined. He is a holding midfielder, and yet I always see a big gap between defence and midfield. However, his tackling, heading and passing is good, and he is too good for Saints i'm sorry to say. Surman - 5 - First half good, arguably our best player. Second half, I didnt see him. At all. Hid when the going got tough, which wouldn't be the first time. Can you blame him though, when players are looking towards him for help and he's far too young for that role. Holmes - 6 - So Jan, after bringing back Morgan too early, decides to take the same risk with Lee. Oh that's intelligent. Played well (relatively) given the time away, but I really think asking 75mins of a player after 3 months out without any reserve matches is just ludicrious. Lallana - 3 - Great feet, little else. Kinda feel sorry for him though. He plays on the wing, a position he clearly doesnt like, and given he can't cross, you can understand why. He's good enough to play in the hole, and i'd like to see him there again. Euell - 2 - Players looking towards him, but he's old and tired and just going through the motions. So many stupid fouls it was ridiculous. McGoldrick - 1 - I'm sorry, but go away. Come back when your not lazy and not arrogant. Unfortunately, I honestly feel that McGoldrick's arrogance is caused by low self esteem. On one on one's he looks terrified. He is so afraid to admit he's playing poorly though that he convinces himself he's great and swans around like a woman. He deludes himself so much that he thinks he's good enough to do flicks and tricks. Watch him, in every game, for the first 25 mins, he'll mope around and do some flicks and tricks. These don't work, and so he then spends 10mins running to apologise. He runs no where and then on 35mins it hits him again that 'oh, i really am quite poor at this game of football'. He then disappears from the game. Subs: BWP: Good for 2 mins Gasmi: Bad for 15mins Jan - 2 - Out of ideas, out of money, out of his depth.
  10. Davis: 7.5 - some excellent saves, particulary one in the middle of the 2nd half. We still look poor at set piece defending, and i cant help but feel a more commanding goalkeeper would solve that James - 5 - To be fair, he was up against probably the best winger in the Championship so it's hardly surprising he struggled. He got royally raped a couple of times though, and although he had some good distribution initially, this faded. However, he needs games, and we need to give him a chance if we cant get any loans in. Svensson - 7.5 - Pretty solid. Still a little slow on the turn, but that'll come. Perry - 7.5 - Pretty solid as well, and got the goal Surman - 7.5 - Thought he played well, although would've be nice if he got forward more and put in more crosses. Still good performance. Gillet - 8 - Ran his arse off. Faded towards the end, but comfortable on the ball with good first touch. Schiderlain - 8 - Excellent touch. Looks calm and assured on the ball. An excellent signing. Holmes - 7 - Contrary to the '3' he received earlier in this thread, I thought he played well. Good combining across the field. Needs slightly better distribution, but good effort rate. Should have scored though..... McGoldrick - 7 - I honestly didnt know what score to give him. I remember some good touches, but i also don't recall him for much of the game. Do remember thinking that he looks calm on the ball though. Lallana - 8.5 - Man of the Match (for Saints). I thought he played excellently. He played like someone who saw himself as above the the other players. He was clam, assured, aggressive and good movement throughout. John - 7.5 - Flitted in and out. Good holding up play at times, and combined well with others. Should have scored just before the Birmingham equaliiser. Subs: Thomson - 5 - Didnt impress me i'm afraid. Reminded me a lot of Dyer - fast, cuts inside too much and dubious final ball. Still, he only had 30mins and i havent seen him in preseason games so could have just had a bit of an off day. Overall I thought we played really well, particulary the first half. It was a joy to watch at times with some excellent one touch passing and movement. They were playing for each other more than any other Saints side in recent memory. I do worry about the pace of our centre-backs though and the hearing that Davies is going concerns me a lot. If Svensson or Perry gets injured (which is likely) then we've got problems as our CB cover is sketchy and our full backs need a lot of support.
